Kintamayama 45,109 Posted March 20, 2024 (edited) Asakayama summoned Miyagino to his office today for a chat. Ooshima Oyakata joined them for the first eight minutes and left. The chat lasted 30 minutes, after which neither agreed to talk to the press. As an aside, the article noted, in passing, that Asakayama will probably be the next rijicho. I need to retire. Morning 79 Posted March 20, 2024 Neither agreed to talk to the press? So one should talk to the press but no one volunteered or they agreed they aren't going to talk to the press?

Kintamayama 45,109 Posted March 22, 2024 (edited) Yesterday another meeting, this time with Isegahama and Asakayama for a hour and a half. Today, a third meeting, with Ooshima and Asakayama. No further news, still not the next rijicho. Edited March 22, 2024 by Kintamayama 2

Asashosakari 19,319 Posted March 24, 2024 Sanspo claims that the transfer of the Miyagino rikishi to Asakayama-beya has fallen through and that Isegahama-beya is now the likely destination.

It does seem kinda stupid for the sport to remove the exciting matchups of Hakuoho vs all Fujis; even if the training will probably be the best in the JSA... Or maybe Asakayama has NO capacity at all to house everyone.

Kaio only has 1 building, whereas Isegahama has pretty much extended into the neighbouring building.
Octofuji 357 Posted March 24, 2024 1 hour ago, Kaitetsu said: Or maybe Asakayama has NO capacity at all to house everyone. That was the main reason given on Takatoriki's channel (FWIW). Also because Isegahama oyakata is more experienced than Asakayama and so better able to guide Hakuho.

Kaninoyama 1,785 Posted March 24, 2024 Hope the Miyagino ruffians don't ruin the positive vibes and culture that Isegahama-beya as cultivated. As a supporter of this heya I'm not a fan of this development. But we'll see how it goes.

Isegahama oyakata probably wants that to happen because Seihakuho is going to take up the foreigner slot when Terunofuji retires and he already has a Mongolian recruit.

Things getting out of hand occasionally in a stable full of young men fighting each other is inevitable, but Isegahama seems to dob himself in as soon as he gets wind of his rikishi being naughty.

Katooshu 3,221 Posted March 25, 2024 (edited) True, but Isegahama/Terunofuji's foreign recruit Ochil is still there informally I believe, as he waits for Terunofuji to retire. So I doubt he'd be recognized in a merger. Edited March 25, 2024 by Katooshu
