Don't want to jinx the poor man, but Takayasu is off to a nice 4-0 start and looks solid.

Takayasu is like a heroic/tragic Greek hero.  Your actions don't affect the outcome -- his fate is in the hands of the gods.

He is a heroic choker.

Doh, that's what happens when I read the reference without tea in the morning.

Now now, let's all stop mentioning Takayasu before day 13. I can't handle 11 days of raised hopes.

Aha, the telltale dirty knee strikes again, and another sekiwake goes down, no pun intended.

Kotonowaka and Onosho continue to look very strong.

Good to see Nishikigi get on the board with a sekiwake scalp, even though I’m a  Hoshoryu fan.

You know it is not your tournament when you start off 0-4 and you lose on day 5 by Tsukihiza.

Where was Oshima looking?

Daieisho and Takayasu look to be a mile ahead, but there are other serious contenders remaining. I'm not writing off Onosho or Hokuseiho just yet, although both are just as likely to completely collapse towards the end. Midorifuji, Nishikifuji, Kotonowaka... surely not? Takakeisho remains serious but would need it all from here.

If Hokuseihō is in it, that's the "yūshō on shinnyumaku" record that gets updated, right?

Well the second half of makunouchi was pretty grim for me. The man I was cheering for lost every time with the sole exception of Daieisho, who looks by far the best wrestler in the division at the moment.

I thought there were some dubious efforts today. Ura had Takayusa side-on and did nothing with the opportunity; Kiribayama tried break-dancing; Ryuden sort of stood there on the bales and waited for the extra push. Not impressed, but I suppose that if my guy had won I wouldn't have suspected anything dodgy.

There are some surprisingly one-sided head-to-heads in the torikumi for tomorrow:

Asanoyama 1-4 Chiyomaru

Mitoryu 6-0 Oho

Azumaryu 7-1 Chiyoshoma

Hokutofuji 1-9 Ura

Asanoyama's matches with Chiyomaru all date from 2018 or earlier though (Chiyomaru was higher ranked each time they met).

Fun fact - the Asanoyama-Tochinoshin bout was the first time ever two ex-Ozeki faced each other in Juryo.

I had A LOT of time to think about this quote during the Takayasu vs Ura match yesterday. Well, okay. It was about 21 seconds to think about it. But I think my heart stopped twice.

Quite intriguing that nobody has made a comment about all three Sekiwake (who are the new Ozeki someway) losing. Business as usual?

I noticed that our sekiwake trio are at a collective 5-10 after 3 days but it seemed cruel to point it out.

You know if Daieisho goes 15-0 he would have 32 wins which might be... oh, stop it!

Counting a 7-8 as part of a run would be ... different. Also, I know you're joking, but K -> O is not a thing as far as I can tell.

Well we have to find a new ozeki somewhere. I've checked my shed, all my cupboards and under my sofa but no luck so far.

We should be okay through May, but yeah.

I wouldn't be surprised if they jump over the first half-decent run they stumble upon. Daieisho - if he keeps up like this until the end - will be likely placed at Sekiwake and get a shot to Ozeki in Natsu. But Kiribayama is already 9-6 11-4J. By the numbers, he needs a 13-2 to get 33, and everyone knows that a 12-3 (32) would be just as good. Actually, considered the present situation I wouldn't be surprised if he could get promoted just with another 11-4 (31) à la Kitanofuji. No Sekiwake ever went anywhere close to 31 in the last year, so why not?

Hidenoumi and Daiamami going into their 18th meeting, all of their matches ended by yorikiri, is it a record?

Eventually the dearth of talent at the top will produce another accidental Ozeki. It may even be Shodai again!

Looks like Kototebakari will be going 6-1, 5-2, 4-3, 3-4.
