I find it very hard to comprehend how anyone can still be so convinced of Kise's nearing demise. Kaisei did his best to defend against left-hand throw, footwork, shifting weight, blocking proper angles etc. Also it must be noted that Kaisei is a pretty heavy fella and it's not that easy to move him when he's physically OK, which he definitely was today. Except Hakuho in his top prime years everyone had trouble beating a 100% fit and focused Kaisei, so please stop sounding like it's Kise being some mid-makuuchi weakling, when it's just rust (8 basho off? Like, seriously, cut this guy some slack!) coupled with a fact that today he faced bigger and heavier komusubi-level sekitori in his best and still won. I don't like Kisenosato that much either, but this is getting annoying.

As for Ichinojo, today he lost in tachiai and it was not his back that beat him, which is pretty rare. I would not say an easy win, but definitely well deserved because of perfectly executed gameplan.

With all due respect to Aoiyama and worries about his condition, but that tiny yobidashi tentatively offering a helping hand to get him off the ground was just too hilarious.

Today we  saw Takakeisho and Ikioi employ the infamous "Magikarp splash attack", which involves throwing oneself to the floor and flopping around helplessly.  Ichinojo looked like he wanted George to tell him about the rabbits.

Although I still enjoyed the last basho, where many of the joi jin were out, this is looking like an outstanding basho. I really do wish I were there!

The 97kg "David" Enho v. 212kg "Goliath" Gagamaru bout on Day 4 is worth checking out if you haven't already.  Go to the 40:00 mark.  Sadly, this video won't be available for much longer.

Note too the cupping marks of Enho's back.  Clearly, his submarine style is taking its toll.  No wonder he switched to the "jumping monkey" attack against Gagamaru.  He would have been seriously crushed had he gone low.

Aoiyama injured his left ankle - it turned over as he dropped off the dohyo in the day 4 Hokutofuji bout. He had to lean on the shoulder of a tsukebito as he left. He didn't seem in very good shape to begin with. Might be better just to sit this one out at this point.

In the first Tochinoshin-Tamawashi bout it certainly looks like Tochinoshin had a hold on Tamawashi's hair with his left hand, as his fingers aren't just pushing down but are actually curled, as they would be when holding something.

Just happened to watch Kaise-Kisenosato of sept 2016 day12 I believe. Goedeo's zenshu yusho.. Almost identical match and result. (Looks like our own Kitna's most watched YouTube video and showed up in my feed) check it out.  I think Kise will get 10 wins and carry on.  Hakahou Kakaryuu on the last day for the title, as I see it now. 

Takakeisho (I know he is 170kg) reminds me of the tiny neighbor's cat that waltzes into our house through the pet door and will hiss and  fight off any of our 3 large cats for the food bowl. They are all twice her size and could kick her ass but she is all attitude and they back off.  

Happened to see Oorah in the feed. He has to crawl up on the dohyo now, sad to see. Ballooning just like Gagamaru in weight. Time to retire and see Dr. Now for weight loss surgery. The dark side of sumo these guys just love to eat and in a sport that encourages this. These are still young men. Hope they get the help they need.

And the yusho winner of that tournament was the Y1w Chiyonofuji.  My money is on Y1w Hakuho at this point.  Let's see if history repeats itself.

At M6, I'd thought he'd have a kachikosh basho.   I still think he will.   

All Yokozuna have gone 4-0.  IMO, the yusho taker will come from Hak or Kak.   it will be a successful basho if Kise ends up with a double digit wins.

More interesting to me is if Mitakeumi could rack up 11 wins with all the Yoko & Ozeki in the basho.  He probably needs to go at least 3-3 against the top 6 to have a shot at Ozeki rank.

Do not discount the possibility of either Takayasu or Mitakeumi winning the yusho.

A couple of thoughts about two rishiki no one has mentioned yet:

Yoshikaze. Who would have thought that after last basho he would start with 4 straight wins? Certainly not me.

Abi. His Makuuchi debut was fantastic and he rose in the banzuke... until the rest realized that all they have to do is endure the tsuppari to the throat and grab his mawasi. He needs to add more tools to his sumo.

Eikokurai, Rocks, Kuroyama; you guys made some good points...Im not saying that it was some mob fixing thing...just that im sawing a doomed guy strugling against weack oponents who dosen't really wanna to beat him...I will not get surprised with Kise getting double digits and than going intai with dignity...

Ishiura seems to have run out of plans entirely. Almost every bout he tries a bit of this and a bit of that but doesn't succeed. Obviously big rikishi sumo doesn't work for him, yet he still tries. Unfortunately he's probably on his way to Juryo. 

I feel bad for Kyokutaisei. He's managed to reach Makuuchi through years of hard work and now this injury. He's not the most talented nor powerful rikishi, but dammit I want to see him doing well. If he drops to Juryo, who knows if he's ever gonna reach Makuuchi again. 

And I find Takayasu's post-win nonchalant "I can't be bothered by this" face extremely funny. Looks to me like he's channeling his inner Musashimaru :P
