Any yusho which includes 15 straight wins, no matter how how they were won,  is zensho worthy. 

As I mentioned before, rank has its privileges. In sumo, those privileges especially apply to a rikishi who has won 41 yushos, has over 1000 makunouchi victories, and wants to extend his career to include his presence at the 2020 Olympics. Hakuho is now at a stage when he can choose which bashos in which to compete and which to go kyujo. No mattter what his reason may be for going kyujo in any particular basho,  I doubt if anyone will complain. He is now at a point where he can do just about anything he wants to. I doubt if that can be said about any other rikishi who ever competed.

Same. I’m one of those heretics who likes it when rikishi show some emotion on the dohyo. And I’ve always rather liked Tokushōryū, if only because his waddle and squat are reminiscent of my toddler son. Haha. He has an adorably baby-like appearance, especially when he wore his baby-blue mawashi.

There may be some truth to this. The look on his face after he lost that day suggested he was unhappy with his performance, and his sumo was qualitatively better in the remaining days of the tournament. He also could have listed to Kitanofuji announcer, who suggested he needs to use more pushing in his sumo like the Hawaiians did.

Mitakeumi is getting closer. Last basho he faced his biggest pressure and rose to the challenge, taking the yusho. This time with Ozekiship on the line, he faltered. He was closer than it seems, as he did take down two ozeki. However, two big missteps: He underestimated Ikioi's strength, who after a blistering tachiai was able to finish off Mita with ease. And then the very ill-advised HNH attempt against Kaisei, which just isn't Mita's style of sumo and very disappointing given that he was able to beat Kaisei handily the previous basho. He has the talent, now he just needs to maintain the focus and confidence for all 15 days.

Mita has definitely improved.   The question is ... what can he improve to be more consistent in the 2nd half of basho?   Stamina? Focus?  He has an unhealthy losing record for the last 8 bashos between 8th and 15th days.   If he can figure that out, he will be a good Ozeki.

He won every bout. How is that not "zensho worthy"? Are we now imposing some condition for a "true zensho" other than a mere zensho?

Many sumo fans despise Goeido for blowing his big opportunities. They don't yet perceive Mitakeumi as a choker, so they're eager for him to move up and take over Goeido's place. I'll be interested to see if Mitakeumi's disappointing result this basho sours some of those people on him.

I've heard people argue that double-digit wins should be the standard for an Ozeki(even though only a tiny percentage of Ozeki are ever able to meet that standard, and those few who can are usually just passing through on their way to Yokozuna!) so mere KK, no matter who you've faced or beaten, is unworthy of someone who holds that rank. I've heard some people justify their dislike for him with fantastic inventions, like insisting that Goeido "henka's too much"; even though Goeido rarely resorts to the henka, and I'm not even sure he's henka'd in 2018. I've even heard Goeido called a coward! I'd like to see the person who said that face a freight train collision with a guy like Hakuho or Takayasu!

Once people take a disliking you, they can be awfully stubborn about it.

Sounds like some have unreasonable expectation of Goeido/Ozeki.     He sure showed the dissenters in Aki by going jun-yusho.   Meanwhile, Mita blew one opportunity at Ozekiship and it may be a while before he becomes one.  Other than his yusho basho, he has been a worthy Sekiwake, no more or no less, in the last 8 bashos.     I.e, he needs a growth spurt to take & maintain an Ozeki rank at this point.   I still like Mita and his chances, eventually, of making an Ozeki and beyond.

i think its hard to imagine mita as a yokozuna

from my angle oshi guys cant be a yokozuna

you should have to be very good on the belt and you have to be good enough without belt if you want to be a yokozuna

asashoryu hakuho harumafuji kakuryu they are all good on the belt and all good with oshi attacks only kisenosato is not good without mawashi
