I don't think he'll do the Okinoumi and collapse the second week, I think he'll still finish 11-4-12-3. It makes me think of Nagoya 2016 where Takayasu broke out going against the top guys. He didn't do historically well against the Yokozuna and lost to them again, but he showed what he could do when he was recovered from injuries and started his rise to Ozeki. Maybe Tochinoshin can do the same? There really aren't any strong candidates other than Mitakeumi who he beat convincingly today. Tochinoshin has a terrible record against Hakuho, and Kakuryu but he may have a chance. He is a lot older than Takayasu was though right now but maybe he can take advantage of the attrition at the top. He might not make it to Ozeki but I do think if his knee holds up he can become a consistent Sekiwake for a couple of years and I think he'll finally beat Hakuho this year. He doesn't deserve to be 0-25 against anyone. I see him pull a Tamawashi

I'm not a meteorologist, but I consider a snowstorm to be a heavy amount of snow with up to 10-15 mph of wind, a blizzard or a "heavy snowstorm" is anything beyond that. If you were referring to tranquility, I think of snow in general as calming.

I finally brought one here yesterday. We get most of our snow in April-May. Mother's Day yukiarashis are quite common!

PawnSums 59 Posted January 22, 2018 you know, Ichinojo's Really channeling his inner Hakuho this basho, and since Harumafuji got kicked out of sumo it must mean he IS Harumafuji.

Tochinoshin is crazy strong, lifting Mitakeumi like a little child in the air. Being on the losing end of a tsuridashi must be one of the more embarrassing moments in sumo. And it seems like Goeido learned his lesson from day 8 and just blasted his opponent out of the ring on the tachiai. And Kakuryu just overpowers Arawashi. It seems to me the tournament is going to come down to Tochinoshin and Kakuryu. And that match between Takakeisho and Hokutofuji was entertaining as heck. Great to see such fighting spirit in the dohyo. They really beat each other up on that one. Lastly, who were those two ladies dressed in all neon pink behind the gyoji? Two ladies, not. Husband and wife comedy duo who are huge sumo fans. PEI & PAAKO HAYASHIYA - YouTube
Irakusamaru 77 Posted January 23, 2018 Did anyone watching the live stream catch why the yobidashi have rikishi's names on the backs of their trousers? They did it explain it, but I was distracted at the critical moment!

M3w Tochinoshin (8-1) has M2w Kotoshogiku (4-5) on Day 10 and should face S1w Tamawashi (3-6), K1w Onosho (4-5), M1e Hokutofuji (2-7), M1w Ichinojo (5-4) and M3e Chiyotairyu (3-6) on Days 11-15. K1w Onosho has gone kyujo. Substitute M5w Endo (5-4) for Onosho.
Burajirotono 99 Posted January 23, 2018 Cool throw by Ishiura. Why Mr. Ichinojo? Why you keep given me hope? It's just mean! Poor Mitakeumi, that was brutal... Hinkakuryu looks like a monk, well done sir.
Amamaniac 2,078 Posted January 23, 2018 (edited) After Day 10, Tochinoshin may still have to face Tamawashi, Hokutofuji, Ichinojo, and/or Chiyotairyu. The question is: will he be able to overcome that competition? If so, he will stay in the hunt (at the very least, get a junyusho). But Day 10 may be a bump(ity) in the road. Tochinoshin's record against Giku is spotty at best (i.e., 5-24). He pulled off one win in Nagoya last year, but lost in Aki. And before Nagoya, the Geek had won 16 straight. I'll definitely have my eye on their match! Edited January 23, 2018 by Amamaniac

To me Mitakeumi's mental state effects him a lot. Winning for him breeds wins and losing losses. He has Shodai on Day 11 though and he always gets up for Shodai. If he beats him he'll be right back on track again I think.
Stein 30 Posted January 23, 2018 Does anyone sees Kakuryu losing over Takayasu or Goeido in this state?
Katooshu 3,089 Posted January 23, 2018 Going opponent by opponent I favour him over everyone competing, but losses come out of nowhere all the time in sumo and not slipping up at some point can be tough even if you're better than your opposition. I'll predict a 14-1 Kakuryu yusho

Considering Kakuryu has basically been losing every other match against them for the past 2 years? Yes, I think it is likely Kakuryu loses to at least 1 of them. Neither Ozeki has looked consistently great for this basho but both have looked great here and there. If they have the drive and don't make a mistake either could beat Kakuryu. I even give Tamawashi, who has beaten Kakuryu the last 2 times he faced him, a good shot to beat him even though Tamawashi is 3-7. Heck, even Mitakeumi can beat Kakuryu if Mitakeumi can get back on track. Edited January 23, 2018 by Rocks
Rocks 1,805 Posted January 23, 2018 As far as winning the yusho I think Kakuryu is a heavy favorite at this point. But I would not be surprised to see it in a 13-2 playoff win over Tochinoshin.
dada78641 884 Posted January 23, 2018 It's one thing after another. Yesterday we had a snowstorm, today we've got a volcanic eruption. That's what the frame around the picture says. Mt.
