With the yokozuna sets you usually can't see what the one of the yokozuna looks like - if it's the one he used for his kanreki-dohyo-iri, you can't even spot the ones for the attendants

I think I've seen the oni set in the sumo museum, but not on the net

Yes, that is the set mentioned in the article.

When I put them here I see all the Facebook stuff in Finnish as well. That's probably because it's where the forum is hosted.

If someone has some other suggestion as to how to help those that can't see the content let me know.

Do you have some option that doesn't include FB? They may have changed something that nuked your post in retrospect

I was most surprised this morning when "Japan is celebrating the first Japanese wrestler for nearly 20 years to reach the highest rank in sumo" was one of the headlines Moira Stuart read out in the lead-in to her 8am news report on BBC Radio 2 in the UK. I can forgive the "wrestler" bit because they got nothing wrong in the report from Tokyo that followed. It was in the middle of Chris Evans' Breakfast Show, which gets around 10 million listeners.

Thanks to all who contribute relevant news items to this thread - I'm running out of likes!

So Ozeki like Kotoshogiku are not exempted from the task? Or did he jump in with gusto?

To help me out could someone list the people in the picture. The three in the front are obvious ;) and I can spot Yoshikaze, Amakaze, Kotoshogiku and Tamawashi (?)

In addition, other top division rikishi I also see are Arawashi, Kotoeko, Ryuden, Kagayaki, and Wakanoshima.
News clip coverage of the tsunauchi shiki. Shibatayama guides Kise with unryugata dohyoiri practice.

Kise's Tsuna is on the front page of Wikipedia now

From Kise's wiki page:

Highest rank Yokozuna (January, 2017)

Is that actually correct? Shouldn't it be March 2017?

It is correct, the other Yokozuna ascension were also in the same month when they clinch promotion.

The banzuke and rankings are compiled (in secret) right after the basho. So it is published within the NSK and known to the "few". And significant promotion such as sekitori-hood (Juryo), Ozeki & Yokozuna are announced officially at the same time.

Kisenosato also has to perform his Yokozuna duty, including his Hatsu dohyo-iri tomorrow, so he is effectively a Yokozuna as of Wednesday when the NSK messengers delivered the message.

NicoNico like for Kakuryu also broadcasts Kisenosato at the Meiji jingu, Friday 15-16h JST: http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv288737394?ref=qtimetable&zroute=index

Last time the video afterwards was visible also without timeshift reservation, for some months, but only after login. Maybe the live broadcast can be viewed without that. I made a timeshift reservation this time to be on the safe side.

Maybe their salary is not immediately updated but until the formal publication of the banzuke.
