Kise's Tsuna is on the front page of Wikipedia now

It was Kakuryu's promotion being on the front page of Wikipedia that got me into sumo.  A few months later and I had stopped reading the front page of Wikipedia regularly, perhaps because I was just so consumed by the awesomeness of sumo that I had been unaware of for so long.

Amazing. I lived in Japan mid 1970's and loved sumo. I moved away and subsequently lost interest. Then in March 2014, Kakuryu's promotion was on Wikipedia's front page. I've been back into sumo ever since.

I had to log in to watch it: he was shown already before the start. This time NicoNico is one minor among many and has no good view - might be better on some TV stream.

Looked like Kise really enjoyed it

We are giving everyone (except Akinomaki obviously) the chance to win the Kisenosato yusho newspapers here:

If you would post links instead of leaving it to the forum embedding, like I try to do with YouTube contents, I would have something to grasp and a chance as well. The problem obviously emerges in my Firefox environment, but the cause likely lies somewhere in the uncharted depth of the new forum embedding.

Very good first performance. Btw i have always wondered what people are yelling when yokuzuna is doing the foot stomping?

"Yoi-sho!" It's a shout of encouragement.

Now we know the real reason why he had to chose unryu as his doyho-iri style: he had been secretly practicing it for years and couldn't switch style

A few uninvited guests at that wedding! They should have stayed for Kisenosato LOL

Sorry if it was already mentioned, which sword was borrowed for this event? Will that one be used until the new one is available or will another be used during bashos?

Kisenosato will get the first citizen's honor award of his other hometown Ryugasaki-city, where he went to the school which has the Kise museum room that is always shown lately. His parents' home is in Ushiku-city.

Of course he also gets the citizen's honor award of his real hometown Ushiku-city, but it's not the first that the city awards. On the 18th next month he will have a parade in Ushiku, 1.5km from the station to the city hall. http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/local/ibaraki/news/20170124-OYTNT50317.html

Both the ozumo magazine and the NHK ozumo magazine commemorating Kisenosato victory seem to have been sold out.

Didn't he mess it up at one point? I mean the moment before the third stomp.

I have a question regarding our newest yokozuna:

Does he already have his own Tachi for the dohyo-iri ceremony? Or do he borrowed a sword from an other yokozuna? Or did he just used a mock-up (empty scabbard with hilt) unless he got his very own?

I'm hardly a connoisseur of yokozuna dohyo-iri, and maybe Harumafuji's beautiful and graceful shiranui version has left me a bit spoiled, but I was left with the impression that Kise needs more practice.

I noticed he wasn't holding his right arm anything like Shibatayama-oyokata had shown him to during the 'shuffle'. I wonder if Kise knows his fingers naturally form into a Vulcan salute? He might be wanting to live long and prosper, but it looked odd. That shuffle (sorry, I don't know the name of the move, but I know you know what I mean) was also a bit truncated for my liking.

It'll be interesting to see how it develops in future.

It did look a tad clumsy, and he seemed to forget exactly what to do with his arms before the last shiko, but I'm sure he'll improve.

Takanohana, Asashoryu and Hakuho do the best dohyo iri in my opinion. Kisenosato did look clumsy, Im a fan but i agree.  But i guess we have to take in factors like his age, weight and that he did not really have alot of time for practicing. Hopefully he will improve later on. And i wish Takanohana taught him instead of Onokuni.
