Bumpkin 438 Posted November 19, 2017 I'm exhausted watching this. Is that Hakuho's son watching in the background?
Asashosakari 20,298 Posted November 19, 2017 And finally some sandanme stuff from Days 3 to 6. Fewer random finds this time, and rather more coverage of guys I try to catch in all bouts this basho (collegiates Fukuyama, Tanabe and Tomokaze, last basho's Jd winner Narutaki, prospects Fukunofuji, Tokuda, Kotokumazoe and Seigo, forum faves Tsuyukusa and Wakaichiro, and for morbid curiosity also Masunoyama). Worth a look (well, they all are ) - the first hansoku of the basho, a super-close isamiashi call (I've watched it at least five times now and I'm still not sure), and a three and a half minute bout. In addition I ended up with both bouts fought by 25-year-old sandanme mainstay Amanoshima, and here's why: 4

Dapeng 236 Posted November 20, 2017 Did Onoshou pull Takakeishou's hair at 10:26-28 ?
Kintamayama 47,375 Posted November 20, 2017 OK, this deserves a new post. Day 9, probably the best quality I ever put out there. Late, but worth it.. but don't get used to it-it takes a whole lot of time. Special thanks to the new guy (I don't want to implicate him..) who does an excellent job of streaming.. 11

Asashosakari 20,298 Posted November 20, 2017 A bunch of videos from the lower divisions on Day 7, including isamiashi (no mono-ii), hikkake (with even less contact than the one in makuuchi today), a slightly wacky-looking kakenage, Urutora doing his thing with kirikaeshi, and various other stuff including rikishi flying off the dohyo in all manner of ways (both with and without mono-ii afterwards). The inline highlight of the day, however, is this monster 7+ minute matchup. Warning: Not terribly much action, so liberal use of fast-forward is recommended. 3 2

Asashosakari 20,298 Posted November 21, 2017 (edited) Didn't get around to mentioning it last night (and I think somebody entered my video IDs already, many thanks!)...Day 8 lower division stuff - as mentioned elsewhere Day 8 had loads of lengthy tussles and mono-ii (not necessarily in the same bouts) in jonidan and early sandanme, and the long ones were actually pretty entertaining much of the time, not just matches with both guys standing around for 2 minutes. One bout did make it to just about the 4 minute mark again. In addition: A torinaoshi'ed match where both finishes were quite spectacular, another no mono-ii isamiashi, a slightly messy kawazugake, and another hair-pull DQ. Spotlight for this nice little back-and-forth affair in makushita: Edited November 21, 2017 by Asashosakari 3

I wanted to mention the bout below, so I took the liberty of doing the links since I was watching through them all anyway. Thanks! Strange kimarite decision on this one - it's quite clear that Omote's leg trip is left-to-left (that is to say, his left foot is behind Daiseiryu's left foot), which should make it a chongake. For some reason though it was called uchigake. Oh, and in another good bout, I really felt for Hamatensei, he put in a good effort only to see the mono-ii overturn the decision and give the win to Tokio. I thought it should've been a torinaoshi, but having said that Hamatensei did seem to hurt his shoulder so it's perhaps for the best that he didn't have to fight again immediately. 4

Spotlight for this nice little back-and-forth affair in makushita: I liked the hair-pull match; the announcers were getting all inside-baseball about who landed first on the throw, then when the mono-ii was over they replayed and noticed the big yank on the mage: "Ohhhhh!"
Asashosakari 20,298 Posted November 22, 2017 Videos from the lower divisions for Day 9, with quite a bit to highlight: two skinny guys making full use of the dohyo, a massive sandanme slapfight, Torakio throwing around another opponent (almost looked like frustration at not winning more quickly), and a bout clocking in at 4:45 minutes with enough activity that they didn't bother to break it up after the 4-minute mark. Then we've got yet another isamiashi (this time they checked) and to change things up also a koshikuduke, although I feel that the winner got robbed of a proper kimarite there. Furthermore on offer: airborne 1 (by opponent effort, with accompanying sound effect!), airborne 2 (by choice), airborne 3 (by...ah, you'll see). And Abezakura goes stage diving. For the inline special - a rather extreme use of nodowa: 5
