I don't know if this is a bug or if I'm just expecting the wrong behaviour from the query (although I could swear it used to work as expected) - my queries from the Heisei Hopefuls thread are designed to highlight all rikishi who still have a chance to be promoted to makushita, but it appears to fail for rikishi who currently have zero losses.

Corrected for now, but it was likely the symptom, not the reason... I will have to look a bit further.

Quick question,

At around 4:15 this video shows Akebono defeating Takanohana in their pre-sekitori days, but I notice that the only non-sekitori match between them in the database is a win for Takanohana at makushita. Does anyone know the circumstances behind the recorded bout?

That must be the jonokuchi bout mentioned here. The DB has no lower-division results for that basho.

There is no "University: Nihon University" entry for Tsurugisho/Abiko

Sakamoto (23, 183cm, 170kg) enters Oitekaze-beya, to join his Nichidai sempai Endo (and also Nichidai Daishomaru/Kawabata and Tsurugisho/Abiko, plus Daieisho, to name all sekitori), intending to make his ms15TD debut at the Hatsu basho.

Edit: I just checked and saw that we didn't have the university background of Abiko in detail yet, mentioned in the articles about his juryo promotion.

Asatamaki isn't marked as a jonokuchi debutant for some reason. (Possibly related? He's marked with an absence for maezumo in the 2016.01 timeline, unlike any other maezumo rikishi.) Edited by Asashosakari

Ah, I see what's wrong, he's somehow already marked with a high rank of Sd100. Sandanme tsukedashi glitch, I guess. (The Hatsu maezumo records are also still glitched, at least the totals; the bout results are there now.)

The SumoParis Youtube channel has some old Eurosport digests from 2000. I will to be adding video links for Natsu 2000. Can anyone help me out and do some other basho?

Natsu 2000, days 10-15 are now in the Database.

Linking Nagoya '00 now (22-year old Aminishiki as one of the higlights)

Oh man, these 2000 bashos bring so many memories! This is when a 10-year old Senkoho started watching sumo and fell in love with it instantly :) Those guys were my heroes. And maybe I'm biased, but sumo in 2000 had much more interesting characters and bouts than it has now...

oh wow, 2000... I started watching in '99, and became a fan of the then-greats. Some of those matches I still remember today.

It would be so great to see those again!

I am truly greatful to all those who keep the sumo database the superior resource it is.

Here, Tachiyama's yusho are bumped by 2 beside the hoshitori. His 1st is listed as his 3rd, his 2nd as his 4th and so on.

That's intentional. Yusho have only been officially awarded since 1909.06; for the guys whose careers straddled that line, the DB counts their pre-1909 "best performances" towards their yusho totals, even though those are unofficial victories.

Some kind of glitch related to guys who had 0 wins or 0 losses in Natsu, they don't show up in queries at the moment.

Edit: It affects the Haru results as well.
