Kaisei gets another freebie.

Wow. Lucky. I’m hesitant to go check records for fear of spoilers but isn’t he well on his way to kachikoshi at this point?

Yeah quite lucky.

He is the 37th rikishi having (at least) two fusen-sho in the same basho since the end of WWII, and the first since Terunosato, Jd20w in march 2016.

He is the 19th makuuchi rikishi doing so, and the 2nd sekiwake since the end of WWII.

The record is set by former Maegashira 5 Kasuganishiki, who had three wins by fusen in the natsu basho 2002, in only 5 days!! : days 11, 13, 15. He went 9-6 at J6e.

Being an Osunaarashi fan is frustrating sometimes...

Totally understand your feeling. I am a Goeido fan...

Sandanme 76w Kakutaiki, of Izutsu-beya, has withdrawn as of Day 9. He had to be helped off the dohyo after his bout on Nakabi.

Meanwhile, Kagamio could be on course for a fourth consecutive kyujo-affected basho, after he appeared to injure his already-strapped right knee on Nakabi. All of his weight went on that leg when Iwasaki threw him with a kakenage, and Kagamio then hobbled away.

Ura was in pain after the bout today: an injury to his right ankle in the bout against Ishiura. He cooled it with ice in the shitakubeya.

NHK later showed him leaving the kokugikan: he had to lean on the shoulder of a tsukebito and apparently couldn't walk alone.

He'll wait for to the result of the check in the hospital to see what to do. Kise-oyakata: "He has the strong feeling of going on even when in pain. I don't think he'll go kyujo."

He said he heard a "crack" in his ankle at the tachiai.

Day 13 news, with lotsa comings and goings, and not just in jonokuchi.

out:

Ms47e Kotokino (2-4, fusen Day 12)

Sd62w Takakiho (5-1, probable knee injury in his Day 11 bout)

Jd89w Bandaisan (2-4, fusen Day 11)

Jk6w Reon (2-4, fusen Day 11)

in:

Sd57w Koshinishiki (0-0-6)

Sd63e Kitanomine (2-3-1, fusen Day 10, missed next round)

Sd76e Asayamabana (0-3-3, fusen Day 6, missed next three rounds)

Jk16w Kotoseigo (0-0-6, third consecutive Day 13 appearance)

Jk17e Kitasatsuma (0-0-6, second consecutive Day 13 appearance)

Jk19w Fujihisashi (0-0-6)

Jk24w Tokuda (0-0-6, shindeshi)

None of the jonokuchi joiners are facing each other, so chances are they'll all finish 1-0-6.

Pretty unusual to see a rookie do the Day 13 thing, Tokuda appears to be the first one since Ichiryu more than two years ago. Most others who don't show up right away are complete goners.

Edit: Although there's also Himekatsuyama who did it as a Day 11 thing last year.

Chiyonokuni has withdrawn before Day 13, and is not on the Day 14 torikumi. Takanoiwa gets a free win and remains in the Yusho race. I imagine they'll put him against Takayasu on Day 15.

Not again...

The Chiyo-injury curse is still active.

Yesterday's tottari by Arawashi apparently injured Chiyonokuni's shoulder - his weak spot, or one of his weak spots.

Good thing is that he already got his kachikoshi.

Let's hope it is not that bad.

Sanoyama Oyakata (Ex-Chiyotaikai) is saying tha Chiyonokuni's kyujo is as a result of pain from an old knee injury that he has had for a few days now. One month to heal.

Which makes me wonder - If I ask a doctor, do you think he'll know how long it takes a heel injury to heal?

So he was staying in the previous few days while he had some glimmer of hope for the Yusho, I guess?

Hmmm, if you are a professional athlete, he might ask you if you have a degree or some kind of job training or experience in another field...

An early intai report from the rather low ranks: Nagoya local Hayatozakura has decided to end his career, citing deteriorating physical condition.

Being greeted by his stablemates in the hanamichi after his final bout on Day 14:

Edit: By the way, supporters of his were also placed quite prominently during the bout. Well, one supporter...it appears the lady may have merely offered to help him hold the sign.

Cudo! Chapeau! Bravo!

First time this happenend in 2016. The last full genki 2nd division as there was also no Kyujo in Juryo at Kyushu 2015...

Any recent updates on Tokitenku's health?

Most recent article I can find by searching for his kanji shikona is from January of this year, so there's apparently nothing released since then to be reported in the media.
