Games Talk Kyushu 2015

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the late response. I hear ya! Believe it or not, it wasn't an alcohol-fuelled decision - I'd been considering it for a while and life has been pretty shitty of late as well so everything seemed to come together at once. The idea of starting from scratch had its appeal!

However, given the rather surprising response from you lot, I won't retire. I still enjoy the games and would have continued under a new name...Pandaarashi?? Not the same! I suspect the main reason people are against my retirement is that they like the shikona, as I do! One of my better decisions!

This basho's failure is my own fault, as I made a tactical departure in order to attempt to overcome Smoc's lead, going for a high-risk approach. I see now I should have just played as I always do - jibun no sumou torimasu, kore kara!

It was actually nice today to take a day off in the games (and let Moti win in Bench!!) and I only played Sumo Game because I enjoy stuffing Rupert! I picked it old school, not using any system or data, and easily won! Very refreshing! I'll play tomorrow in all the games and come back in January as before.

Sorry for causing a ruckus. For a while there I was quite serious about retiring but I see now there really is no point if I'm going to play anyway. Thanks to all for your concern!

I thought in honor of Kitanoumi and keeping with the directional theme, you might change the "azuma" to some reading of 北.

Small reminder:

Picking Tokitenku as "Weak Maegashira" in Juryo Game might look like a clever ploy, but in actuality it will backfire. Picking a kyujo rikishi as Weak Maegashira will result in zero points!

Good luck in the upcoming basho!

Why is Tokitenku currently showing up as giving people who picked him 14 points?

Kitanoumi's death helped me along the way! And now is the perfect time!

I also announce the retirement of Pandaazuma, after a shameful tournament not befitting a SuperbanzukeYokozuna.

I'll turn up again in the games of course under a new name. Thanks everyone for the memories! Kore kara ganbarimasu!

I know you have changed your mind now but dont you dare,if you do I will come there and slap you silly....

Who else can I take the p*ss out of?

I know I never made it to SB Yokozuna but after 2009 I sank out of sight for 5 years or more and still clawed my way back.....

Your not a quitter Simon.....

Dont forget this isnt real sumo in this we get better with age....

The FS standings don't put people in the correct order and today is no exception. Kuroimori wins the Fantasy Sumo yusho on a tie-break. Omedetou!

These things get corrected after the basho. Done now.

Yeehah!

Lucky tiebreaker bounce to win the yusho - not as dramatic as in Makushita Game where I was super lucky, ousting Kyushu SG Giant Andoreasu with the 6th tiebreaker!

A very nice finish for this basho and the overall SG year.

Not directly Games Talk but the fact that I've got the Hatsu Basho 2001 in my GTB basho history (although I started in 2015) really scares me sometimes. :-S

Take it to Games Bugs? ;-) It won't be hard to fix.

This was perhaps my best basho in terms of prizes won:

Shukunsho in Maegashira Game (Showing off...)

Yusho in Salarycap Sumo (Yusho winner...)

Yusho in Rotosumo (Yusho winner...)

And yet I feel I can leave Superbanzuke Makuuchi again due to bad performance in Fantasy Sumo (that contributed most points to my last good position) as well as The Hoshitori. OK, we will see whether gains in other games can offset the Fantasy loss.

Anyway, many many thanks to everyone providing services to the community, I really appreciate the way everybody tries to contribute on high level, almost professionally... (Showing respect...)

I exceeded my own expectations this time around!

  • Went 10-5 in Bench Sumo for the second time in three tournaments. Hopefully enough to secure promotion to Juryo
  • Chaingang went wrong on the first day
  • ISP started off well, but then it went to pot on the last few days. Nonetheless, an 11-4 record is pretty darn good!
  • Finished well in POG, but not so good at Roto
  • I accidentally missed a day out of Maegashira game which cost me.
  • But I managed to get first place in Quad - somehow!

And *that*, my friend, is the greatest feat of them all. Congrats! Edited by Jakusotsu

Banzuke in Hoshitori is really a mess. We have 9 (!) Yokozuna meanwhile and looking at the recent performance of some of these makes me shiver. E.g., one of the current Yokozuna finished 3-12, 1-14, 5-10 in the last three basho but obviously doesn't have the balls to declare his Intai. Another one had no problems to remain in this rank even after 4 consecutive MK. Ridiculous!

Is there any way for a rules change? Who would be the right person to address this appeal? I mean this game is running now for more than 21 years but I guess we urgently need some change of rules here.

Ganzohnesushi

Norizo probably just doesn't know the rule about being obliged to retire with a bad run. However, I fully agree some kind of change is necessary..something like 3 mk in a year? 3 straight mk?

Maybe time fo Norizo to retire with a 4th consecutive MK as Yokozuna.

This basho ran similar to Aki for me early promise in the dailly games drained away by the end with only ISP,SQ and tip spiel finishing in Kachi koshi territory....

Previous success in ISP and SQ means no surprises there but Tip spiel has suffered badly in the past from missed days---This was the 1st time for too,too long that I didn't miss any days so I hope to make the climb back to makuuchi and SB points...

4-11 record in bench sumo possibly my worst result ever ....Swapping Kisenosato for Terunofuji at the start was not a good move.............First time I have gone without Kisenosato for a long time, back to 'the devil I know' next time I think......

Mostly Kachi koshis in the team games despite Inchinojo's poor showing...A popular pick I guess so we all got the same disappointment...

Best result by far in UDH where I collected my 3rd yusho(Only Rotosumo has seen a better yusho tally)Unfortunately that was the only game I scored SB points in but t least it was the most points possible...

With upward movement in most games I hope to climb up the SB itself for 2016 but how badly will my bench sumo disaster damage that I dont know..

Thanks as always to the rijicho in the games for all their efforts.....

I LOVE these games...

I am surpised that no one else had Homareifuji on 6 points in UDH-very surprised...

Am I missing something here? It seemed to me that he was well out of his depth....

I definitely want to extend a big thank you to all of the game-masters and game banzuke-makers. This was my first year playing the games and throughout I have been extremely impressed with the overall administration and recordkeeping. While I still have a long way to go, these games have helped me learn a lot about sumo and added an extra layer of entertainment each basho. Once again, arigatou gozaimasu for everything you do!

Its nice to hear there are still new players out there, sometimes it looks like the same old players(Edit-Out there....)

The games took a hard few knocks after the "Juryo Yaucho scandal" where 25+ rikishi where forced to retire......

No scandal could ever stop my enjoyment of sumo or the games.......

I understand what you mean when you say it is an extra layer of enjoyment too....With limited access to watch the sumo where I am now I would probably lost interest if the games hadn't given me a vested interest in the sumo bouts....

I dont know how well the results have gone for you this year but I remember it was a long time before I won anything and it was a bit of a disappointment for me for a while........Now look at me 2009 world champion, 20+ yushos and many more prizes....

I hate to blow my own trumpet(Shut up Pandaazuma-Who asked you anyway?) but if I can do it anyone can....

Keep it up Unkon!

Edit-Bad english corrected, whatever would(Edit-will)those who dont have English as their first language think?(More bad English corrected you would think I never went to school)
