Akinomaki 39,797 Posted December 26, 2013 Kumagatani-oyakata was called for interrogation to the crisis committee today. He may even get dismissed before the deadline on the 12th. Tagonoura-oyakata's case is solved, they'll wait and watch closely Kasugayama's lawsuit. http://www.daily.co.jp/newsflash/sumo/2013/12/26/0006598667.shtml http://www.jiji.com/jc/c?g=spo_30&k=2013122600804
Itachiyama 107 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) And it's confirmed that ex-Kanechika's issues are with the family of the late Miyagino[9] whose daughter he married back in 2004, which allowed him to become oyakata to begin with - first as Miyagino, then as Chikubayama after his "I claimed to my mistress that I tried to buy a yusho and yokozuna promotion for Hakuho" scandal caused him to be deposed from the heya leadership. The papers are coy about it (for privacy reasons, I presume), but - is that marriage actually still on? no, it's not on for quite a time. They hate each other. The daughter of the former Miyagino and the rest of the heya will be happy to get rid of Kanechika. Edited December 26, 2013 by Itachiyama
Asashosakari 18,786 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Naruto-oyakata changed his myoseki and heya name to Tagonoura, announced today by the NSK. Naruto-beya disappears, Kisenosato will have his yokozuna run as a Tagonoura-beya rikishi. The Tagonoura myoseki was in the possession of the family of the last T., former Kushimaumi, who died in February last year.On a related note, Sports Hochi claims that this move has resulted in the Naruto widow-held myoseki certificate being invalidated, meaning the kabu has essentially been taken over into Kyokai management now. If true, that may explain why the certificates of vacant kabu didn't need to be presented by the Dec 20 deadline - they might become void anyway when the Kyokai changes to its new corporate status. Asashosakari 18,786 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) (On loan from Toyonoshima) Nishikijima-oyakata, former Zaounishiki (61) has acquired the Takekuma myoseki, the name change was announced today. http://mainichi.jp/sports/news/20131226k0000m050077000c.html Hmm, wonder if that means this is actually being handled as a purchase and ex-Zaonishiki will not become the second oyakata ever to reach his retirement age on a borrowed kabu. Impossible to get independent verification the usual way this time, he's in the same spot on the oyakata list whether it's as the last owner or the first borrower... (Perhaps he'll get promoted in rank after the January basho, that would seal it.) Edit: And of course, if it's a purchase, then this is yet another kabu moving across ichimon lines. Asashosakari 18,786 Posted January 6, 2014 Before I completely forget about it I'll mention that I've seen a report that the Dec 25 print edition of Sports Hochi supposedly included an article that said that Kimurayama acquired the Iwatomo share per Dec 24. As this never made it on to the Hochi website and also wasn't picked up anywhere else I'm not sure how much stock (no pun intended) to put in it.
Kintamayama 44,354 Posted January 9, 2014 Kumegatani and Naruto myosekis were presented today, leaving only Kasugayama in the lurch.
Yubinhaad 11,546 Posted January 11, 2014 I don't know where else to put this, so: Kataonami-oyakata (former Sekiwake Tamakasuga) has joined the shimpan group, replacing Minatogawa-oyakata (former Komusubi Daitetsu) who joins the competition inspection committee. Yubinhaad 11,546 Posted January 21, 2014 Nikkan reports that former Sekiwake Kotonishiki has switched to the Nakamura myoseki, owned by Yoshikaze, and has transferred to Oguruma-beya. He was previously borrowing the Hidenoyama myoseki, owned by Kotoshogiku.
Jakusotsu 5,815 Posted January 21, 2014 Yikes. Is Giku really making plans for his retirement?
Asashosakari 18,786 Posted January 21, 2014 Yikes. Is Giku really making plans for his retirement?Maybe he just expects Yoshikaze to last longer than Giku. Kabu loans will supposedly be forbidden under the new system, so this might be ex-Kotonishiki's last "easy" kabu change. The more interesting part here is arguably the heya change - now that ex-Aobajo has retired, perhaps Oguruma was looking for a new wingman.

Tamanaogijima 741 Posted January 26, 2014 I guess this might have been accurate after all, as the freshly-named Iwatomo-oyakata Kimurayama is listed as owning his kabu. ... and "by accident" solves the mystery whether Zaonishiki is owner of the Takekuma-kabu now. Yes, he is.

Naganoyama 5,852 Posted February 24, 2014 So have Dewanoumi and Takasaki swapped names today or have I managed to miss somebody reporting this previously. I assume that this is to get things bedded in prior to Dewanoumi retiring on 2 April.
Tamanaogijima 741 Posted February 25, 2014 Correct. The switch has been effective February 1st already (reported in this thread).
Asashosakari 18,786 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) For completeness: As mentioned elsewhere Kotooshu has retired and has taken the 3-year grace period during which he'll be allowed to stay on under his own shikona before he takes over a permanent name eventually. As is customary for former ozeki he's immediately been made iin equivalent in rank and won't need to progress through the lower two oyakata ranks. Asashosakari 18,786 Posted March 23, 2014 That was "Iin Taigu Toshiyori" (third from bottom) or "Iin" (fifth from bottom)? Iin taigu. And that page reminds me that it's mainly a status thing, his salary is the same as for any "normal" new oyakata.

Asashosakari 18,786 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Ex-Kinkaiyama(current Mihougaseki) has switched to Takasaki. Former Washuyama and till a few hours ago Takasaki (ex-Dewanoumi Oyakata ) is retiring today. And he's now owning his new share. Today the new job assignments were handed out. The changes in the executive ranks (bold = deputy directors, italics = appointed yakuin taigu executives): Role old new Rijicho Kitanoumi Kitanoumi Operations director Kokonoe Hakkaku General Enterprises director Kokonoe Takanohana Public Relations director Hakkaku Dekiyama Guidance director Hakkaku Takanohana Lifestyle Guidance director Hakkaku Takanohana Crisis Control director Hakkaku Takanohana Competition Inspection chairman Kokonoe Takanohana Shimpan director Kagamiyama Isegahama Isegahama Sumo School director Takasaki Tomozuna Security director Hakkaku Dekiyama Osaka Basho director Takanohana Kagamiyama Nagoya Basho director Chiganoura Chiganoura Kyushu Basho director Tateyama Matsugane Jungyo Director Oguruma Oguruma Museum Committee member Kokonoe Hakkaku Tamanoi Hakkaku Takanohana Dekiyama Tamanoi Operations vice-director Tamanoi Tamanoi General Enterprises vice-director Yamashina Yamashina Public Relations vice-director Tamanoi Tamanoi Guidance vice-director Yamashina Michinoku Lifestyle Guidance vice-director Takasago Tateyama Competition Inspection vice-chairman Takasago Takasago Shimpan vice-director Asahiyama Izutsu Asahiyama Security vice-director Oyama Tamanoi Matsugane Tamanoi Shibatayama Jungyo vice-director Oyama Matsugane Shibatayama Hakkaku may be the nominal #2 as director of Operations now, but Takanohana has been given a boatload of posts as he's now in charge of everything related to organizational and personnel guidance (previously split between Kokonoe and Hakkaku). As expected the important PR department is now headed by new riji Dekiyama - who may be new, but is already 62 years old. The shimpan section is organized in the traditional form again with one head and two deputies instead of the other way around. Isegahama stays on as chief, while Kagamiyama takes over the Osaka department vacated by Takanohana. Two posts are swapped directly between an outgoing and an incoming riji: Tateyama, who did not run for election again due to age reasons, hands over the Kyushu department to Matsugane, while Takasaki (the previous Dewanoumi, ex-Washuyama) passes the sumo school department to Tomozuna - not a huge surprise to see this arguably least important post go to Tomozuna. Kitanoumi (as rijicho), Chiganoura (Nagoya) and Oguruma (jungyo) are the only directors who continue with their previous roles. (Edit: Oops, Isegahama has of course also maintained his position, even if the shimpan leadership has changed in other aspects.) Some redundancy was eliminated again thanks to Matsugane's "promotion" from deputy to riji - the security department is back down to the more usual two deputies and the jungyo department also has just one deputy again. The sole incumbent deputy Tamanoi maintains all his posts, while Shibatayama takes over the posts held by Oyama (who wasn't nominated again), and Izutsu fills the recreated second shimpan deputy position. All three previous yakuin taigu (appointed "executive helpers" of sorts) continue on, but only Asahiyama's job description remains unchanged; he's still a shimpan deputy. Yamashina keeps his more important post as the General Enterprises vice director, while his other position in the Guidance department is taken over by Michinoku. (Probably the first step in the rehabilitation of former riji Michinoku towards a future return as director.) And the slow erosion of Takasago's responsibilities continues as he's now only the second-in-command in the competition inspection committee - I'm not sure he actually has to do much of anything in the role except attend a short meeting after each basho. His other role is taken over by former riji Tateyama. However, as Tateyama's retiring in November they'll have to find a new Lifestyle deputy then; I can't imagine the post will return to Takasago. It'll probably be added to Michinoku's slate, or somebody completely new will be appointed. The biggest surprise (for me anyway) in the yakuin taigu ranks is that deposed director Kokonoe isn't one of them - it's highly unusual that a former director immediately becomes a mere rank-and-file oyakata, especially one who didn't exit for age reasons.
