Jejima 1,427 Posted July 22, 2021 Hi everyone, Marushiki of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council has sent me the following missive.... ******************************************************** Venerable Rijicho. The BSYDC has met and at length discussed the performance of Taka, and the possibility of promotion to Yokozuna going into September. We would like to congratulate him on an outstanding performance this Basho and his Jun-Yusho. A very commendable performance for a prospective Yokozuna. Given his MK last Basho, most of the esteemed members of the BSYDC, have thought 10 or more wins would be needed. Given that he has won 1 Yusho in the Makuuchi division, back in 2019, and a Jun-Yusho for the Nagoya 2021. Should he make Yusho or Jun-Yusho as per the Rules Page: which states. The general guidelines are that the normal minimum requirement for promotion should be two consecutive Jun-Yushos, whilst at the rank of Ozeki (provided that they have previously won a Makunouchi Yusho.) http://takanorappa.com/BenchRules/yokozuna.htm . If the esteemed Taka can manage a minimum of 10, and the minimum requirement as per stated ruling, then Promotion can be seriously considered. Should Yusho or Jun-Yusho not be achieved then, we will reconvene and consider the promotion again after the September Basho. We offer Taka our sincere encouragement and know he will do his best. Marushiki (Chair BSYDC) ******************************************************** So, September will be a tsuna-tori basho for Ozeki Taka. I wish him well! Bench Sumo is always better when a Yokozuna heads the top of the banzuke. Jejima

Jejima 1,427 Posted September 26, 2021 Hi everyone! Here is the updated standings for the Zentoryu Quality of Sumo Award for 2021 after the September 2021 basho. This is the combined results of the ZQoSA from November 2020 to September 2021.It reads like this.....Current ZQoSA position - (Change from after July 2021) - Rank on the September 2021 banzuke - shikona - Total ZQoSA points from the previous 6 bashos - (points change from after September 2021 - basically the points gained for September 2021 minus the points gained in September 2020).Damimonay takes a sizeable lead going into the final basho of the year - and the final basho that counts towards the year's end prize. Metzinowaka is the only player to enter the top ten. The biggest climber is tainosen with 13 positions (Joaoiyama came close with 12.) aoyume makes a new entry directly at Juryo level. Jejima 1,427 Posted October 1, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone, I have received the following missive from the Chair of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council, Marushiki. ***************************************************************** Venerable Rijicho. The YDC has met to discuss the Aki Basho, and the performance of our Yokozuna hopeful, Taka. It was a difficult tournament for a lot of the Bench Rikishi, and with a number of real rikishi who pulled out, that threatened the balance of a few teams who had them. We were impressed with the esteemed Taka's final score, and his Jun-Yusho. After much consideration, and much meditation in our hot tub, be were agreed that Promotion of Taka to Yokozuna should be offered, along with our congratulations. We look forward to the next Basho to see how Taka continues with his excellent form. And will be keeping an eagle eye out on all the others, for our next potential Yokozuna. Now it is time for the BSYDC, to resume our meditations.... Marushiki, Chair BSYDC ***************************************************************** Congratulations to Yokozuna Taka on his promotion! Jejima 1,427 Posted October 7, 2021 @Taka, @Bill Hi everyone, The banzuke making committee has been working behind the scenes. After some discussion, we have decided to make another major promotion, to go along with Taka's promotion to Yokozuna (we are still awaiting his Yokozuna acceptance speech, as is traditional in this game. Hint, hint ;-)) Bill has had the following records over the past three bashos.... May - S1E, 11-4 July - S1W, 9-6 September - S1W, 9-6 He is one win short of the usual guidelines, but has been fighting at Sekiwake (with KKs in all five of them) since January of this year, prior to which he was ranked as an Ozeki. Therefore, with the promotion of Taka to Yokozuna, and with the remaining Ozeki (Norizo) going into November as a kadoban Ozeki, the banzuke making committee has followed the guidelines, and relaxed the requirements marginally to allow for this promotion. It will be Bill's second stint at the rank of Ozeki. His first one lasted for ten bashos. We wish him luck - and hope that he will also have prepared a little speech for his repromotion. Jejima 1,427 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone, Here is the new banzuke for November 2021. It was put together by Flohru, Sakura and Jejima, whilst being overseen by Kintamayama, Ekigozan, Asashosakari and Kaiomitsuki. Mostly good luck this time around - but a few sprinklings of bad luck, so keep your fingers crossed. It's really nice have a Yokozuna atop the banzuke once more. Enjoy! Taka 33 Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) I'll post my Yokozuna acceptance speech here. Please feel free to re-post it on the benchsumo group where I do of course read along and keep up, but haven't been signed in a long time and I am unable to do so right now. Maybe I'll need to sign up again! Yokozuna promotion acceptance speech Dear BSYDC and fellow Bench Sumo gamers I humbly accept the promotion and will do my best to honor the rank. It's also very appropriate for me to echo many other newly promoted Yokozuna in saying that this promotion will strengthen my sumo spirit. In fact it is not wrong to say that it will have helped keeping my bench-sumo career as well as my whole sumo-gaming career alive. Retirement or at the very least a prolonged break from sumo-gaming has been looming larger and larger recently but becoming Yokozuna must serve as powerful motivation. The short term goal is to yusho as Yokozuna. I've been victorious across divisions, but the close calls and near misses lately have been frustrating. Winning as Yokozuna will more than make up for it! When it comes to the lifespan of a Yokozuna and era, I did some quick research, and thanks to my predecessor Flohru, who talked about it in his promotion speech, and I quote: "Looking at the careers of my predecessors, however, caused me some kind of shock: As none of those Bench legends managed to last more than 9 basho (average time of duration: just 6.4 basho!)" it is clear that the future is not at all guaranteed and all I can do is gambarize one day at a time. I also want to thank all involved in Bench Sumo especially those running the game, and finally if it's at all appropriate I wish to dedicate this newest bench sumo Yokozuna title to those great people who were involved and did so much for the game, who are not with us anymore. Thanks again Yokozuna Taka Edited October 19, 2021 by Taka 6

Looking here, I don't see any issues. The problem with that page stems from when I changed how I counted Koshos/Kyujos. It messed with the counts everywhere. I, also, had a bad range in the formula for Norizo's tallies. You see, the Bench Ozeki page is one of the few that I have to hand-jam data into. I've transitioned to straight DB queries for almost everything else. With over 60 stats pages, it's tough to check everything. Heck it's a few hours work to just tabulate it all. The manual manipulation of the Ozeki page is because it mimics Gaijingai's original Ozeki stats posts on the BS groups site, and there is no easy way to get the data in that format, otherwise. BTW - All stats have been updated with 2021 Aki numbers (I think) 2
Jejima 1,427 Posted October 31, 2021 Here are the possible milestones for the November basho 2021. Many thanks to Takanorappa and his Bench Sumo stat page where are the good stuff can be mined --> <http://www.takanorappa.com/ichimons.htm> There are nine parts. 1. The players at a new career high rank. 2. The number of active bashos (multiples of 10) - *if* the player turns up in November. 3. Players who have a chance (even if very remote) of going to a new 'multiple of 100' career wins in November . 4. The current top 20 leaderboard for the *all-time* total number of wins. 5. Jejima 1,427 Posted November 30, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone! We have a new winner for the Zentoryu Quality of Sumo Award (ZQoSA) for 2021! It is.... . . . . . . . Bill! Omedetou Bill! Also, a big well done to Joaoiyama, who has leapt up 71 places over the year! Very impressive. Here are the full results for the year. It is a little more complicated than usual, in order to compare to the final results for 2020 - as well as comparing to the results after September 2021. REMEMBER regular brackets ( ) relate to last basho (Sep 2021). Curly brackets { } refer to the results for last year {2020}. So, it reads like this. Current ZQoSA position - (Change from after September 2021) - {comparison to 2020 final position} - Rank on the November 2021 banzuke - {Rank on the November 2020 banzuke} - shikona - Total ZQoSA points from the previous 6 bashos - (points gain from after November 2021, basically November 2021 minus November 2020) - {comparison to total ZQoSA points for 2020*}. *REMEMBER* There were only five bashos in 2020, so the points scores for this year (from six bashos) should normally be higher than for 2020! Jejima 1,427 Posted December 2, 2021 Hi all! Here is the new Bench banzuke for January 2022. It was put together by Sakura, Flohru and Jejima, under the watchful eyes of Kintamayama, Asashosakari, Ekigozan and Kaiomitsuki. The top of Makunouchi was really difficult to put together, and there is quite a lot of bad banzuke luck in that zone, I'm afraid to say. There were a few other problematic areas, but we came to an agreement in the end. Merry Christmas everyone - and whatever other celebrations that you may have at this time of year! A sincere thank you to everybody who helps to run the game - it would not be the same (nor possible!) without you all. Many thanks to everybody who has been playing this game - some of you for over 2 decades! Here's to an exciting 2022 in Ozumo and in Bench Sumo. The first player to reach 1000 wins in Bench Sumo will surely happen in the next 12 months. Jejima 1,427 Posted December 4, 2021 Hi all, I have received the following message from the venerable Marushiki, chair of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council. The decision might be unpopular to some (as Marushiki suspects), but the BSYDC has always been a separate entity from the banzuke makers - and the rijicho. We respect their opinions and decisions, whatever they may be, especially when they were difficult ones to make. I am hoping that we will have the first ever period of Bench Sumo with two Yokozunas atop the banzuke. Also, I should mention, that the very first Yokozuna (when the BSYDC was chaired by Hananotaka, and the membership was very different to what it is now) in the game, Gernobono, was promoted after a 9-6 record. Jejima (BS rijicho) Marushiki's missive..... Venerable Rijicho. We come to the end of another Basho, and another year and the Bench Yokozuna Deliberation Council has met for their annual Christmas party. The sake flowed and much early holiday cheer and good will was evident, and the prospects of having 2 Yokozuna, the first in Bench history, was very exciting. We would like to congratulate, and offer our continued encouragement to the current Yokozuna Taka. We also looked at the record of Ozeki Bill. This being his second go around as an Ozeki, before he sadly slipped down to Sekiwake. Much debate and consideration on if one return basho at Ozeki was enough for an immediate promotion to Yokozuna. We were all of two minds with which way to cast our thoughts. After consulting Bill's previous records, with the 4 Basho at Ozeki, 2 with KK records and 2 with MK records, then 5 bashos at Sekiwake, all with KK records. And after consultation with your venerable self. I find myself having to play devil's advocate and having to make a decisive, but possibly unpopular decision. So, if the esteemed Bill can make 9-6 at Ozeki for the next Basho then a definite promotion will be warranted. But if the esteemed Ozeki wishes to hold out for at least another few Basho before consideration of promotion, I think we will all understand. On behalf of the BSYDC I would like to wish everyone a safe, and happy holiday season. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas,. Happy Bodhi Day, and a Festive Yule, Marushiki Chair, BSYDC
Rocks 1,809 Posted December 4, 2021 Maybe I'm just not good with Takanorappa's site but is there someplace to see who has been a Yokozuna in Bench, easily, in the past?
