Gurowake 4,154 Posted September 11, 2020 I assume the automation will handle situations where there are no Yokozuna or Ozeki on the banzuke, but I'm pretty sure there's no way it can know whether they will all be kyujo, especially as the sekitori kyujo announcement is pretty much contemporaneous with the Bench Sumo deadline. Doitsuyama 1,260 Posted September 11, 2020 The automation definitely can't handle 7 maegashira, it would be a big undertaking for that, starting with the database.

But, a) I would much prefer it if there is a way to allow for the extra Maegashira pick. b) I note above that @Doitsuyama says that it would be a big undertaking to sort out the automation to allow for this possibility. Does that mean that it would be impossible to do for this basho? How about for the November 2020 basho (or January 2021 basho)? I would like to know the answers to these questions, before donning the orange traffic cone hat (I don't even know where I last put it.) However, there will be a Bench Sumo basho this basho.

Jejima 1,498 Posted September 11, 2020 For this basho, I guess we are all going to have to battle with 9 rikishi. But this is not a change in the official rules. When the automation can handle it, the game will use the official rules of allowing an extra Maegashira pick, for future bashos. 1

I don't think so. With M1e Terunofuji there is an additional weapon for big scores. And I'm really curious whether we will see an all Ozeki line-up in points... Jejima 1,498 Posted October 1, 2020 Hi everyone! Here are the updated standings for the Zentoryu Quality of Sumo Award for 2020 after the September 2020 basho. This is the combined results of the ZQoSA from November 2019 to September 2020. It reads like this..... Current ZQoSA position - (Change from after July 2020) - Rank on the September 2020 banzuke - shikona - Total ZQoSA points from the previous 5 bashos - (points change from after September 2020 - basically the points gained for September 2020 minus the points gained in September 2019). Jejima 1,498 Posted October 3, 2020 Hi all, Here is the new bench banzuke for November 2020. It was put together by Jejima, Kaiomitsuki and Flohru, with useful input from Asashosakari and Kintamayama. Ekigozan was also included in all correspondence. For players on an Ozeki run, a kosho will cut that short in normal circumstances. This means that Andoreasu will need to play in November to have a chance of cashing in on his amazing 12-3 record either then (with a 10-5 or better, as he had an 8-7 prior to the 12-3) or again in January, should he KK in November without double digits. This has been the rule for Bench Sumo since the game began in 1999, when I wrote it based on how the kosho rule (then in existence for Ozumo) would treat an Ozeki run. (Other sumo games treat kosho and ozeki promotion differently.) If anyone has any query about the rules, (which can be seen here --> <http://takanorappa.com/BenchRules/BasicRules.htm>)please contact me directly. As well as welcoming Andoreasu to the Sekiwake ranks, there are a number of very lucky promotions to Makunouchi. With banzuke-gai rikishi, and 0-0-15 rikishi falling from Juryo, there is more banzuke luck than usual this basho. With sadness, I need to announce that this will be the last banzuke that Kaiomitsuki will be an active banzuke maker. He had previously hung up his mawashi, and now he is hanging up his calligraphy brush too. Kaiomitsuki has been invited to join Kintamayama, Ekigozan and Asashosakari as a banzuke-maker emeritus. Someone who we turn to for wisdom and guidance when needed. I will be inviting a Bench Sumo player to take his place before the next basho begins.
