It has come to that: Goeido was appointed SHOP-manager-for-a-day at an optician's store and had to wear glasses - for eyesight 1.0.

The shop was close to his hometown and an acquaintance runs it. A CM is planned.

(that must lead to several fixed kensho for Goeido's bouts for Haru)

What video were they watching? grin.gif

This is the NicoNico PR video for this year with scenes from last year, so they are watching the videos from last years Chokaigi-basho, which are there to watch forever on NicoNico (maybe only if you had made the time-shift reservation?): Day 2 http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv174991284

Shorter videos are there to watch for all (at least after login): NicoNico video search

This year there will be again the Chiba Makuhari-messe NicoNico Cho-kaigi basho on the 25th and 26th of April

PR video

I get some problems with the PR video on the NicoNico site - maybe it has to be opened from a search page. Edited by Akinomaki

Anyhow, if you could become a president or a prime minister of your fatherland why would you aim at becoming some anonymous oyakata? I think that Hakuho if were to become a Japanese citizen probably won't do anything about that as long as his father is alive, just a hunch.

Because his Japanese wife and children are comfortable where they are.

Seriously, can anyone believe that Hakuho's wife, Wada Sayako, and his three children all born and raised in Japan would adapt easily/willingly from a modernized multi-cosmopolitan MASSIVE CITY of Tokyo to a sparse nomadic country regardless of how well Hakuho and his family would live in Mongolia? No way.

You do know that Hakuho was brought up in Ulaanbaatar? Not much of a normadic live going on there. Not as big as Tokyo, and the air is more poluted, but it is a giant city, where you can live very comfortable with the right money.

Harumafuji was invited with his wife (=back to Tokyo from Osaka) to the reception in the ambassador's residence of the UK in Japan for Prince William, who is a big fan of HF and had requested before his trip to Japan to meet him: (Nikkan old article).

Hmm are you sure? It seemed like a very precise inside-joke or something. It says 例のアレ and the comments on the Nico video are all like まさか (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm25597374). And they say stuff like the Earth will break. I thought they were showing them this stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNjwd9ypibA

Gimme a break. Lots of Japan is ass-backwards rural; that's basically like saying that Hak's family couldn't survive outside of Tokyo. Yet millions of people have picked up and gone to entirely different cultures before, millions will do so again; and incredibly, some few survive!

Though most do so without the added benefit of a multi-millionaire spouse and a 3-hour plane ride home...

Children and spouses of rich and famous people rarely decide to pack up and move to the sticks just because dad misses home. Women and children call the shots. Men just obey.

Could Hakuho and his family pack up and move to Mongolia where they will (apparently) need around-the-clock bodyguards? Sure they could. But will they? I doubt it.

It was just a hunch on my side. His wife is from Tokushima, which is a part of the island of Shikoku - one of the most desolate regions of Japan, resembling the vastness and emptiness of the Mongolian steppe, so she would know a thing or two about living in an empty space. I was basing my hunch on the premise that she would be much more comfortable in a role of the wife of a high-ranking politician rather than the role of a okami-san with the myriad of the responsibilities and pressure that come with it. Not to mention the inevitable pressure on Hakuho to produce a rikishi or two of very high calibre. And if you think that live in Tokyo is sooo glamorous or extremely comfortable, you have not lived here, in my opinion. Education-wise, based on my experience and contacts with Mongolian students - the average education system up to high school in Mongolia is light years ahead to the average one in Japan.

Well, my niece just visited me after studying 3 years in Japan. She was on the brink of needing a rehabilitation due to social stress she endured in japan. Different culture means different culture. She regards Japanese culture and way of life very highly but was quite certain that it is not for everyone from outside of Japan. Funny thing is she started complaining how rough was americans while she was flying but soon felt at home here in the US even though we are Mongols.

One thing she revealed me that surprised me a lot was that many Mongolian students are abandoning their studies in Japanese universities complaining that the society and teaching methods are way to rigid or even feudalistic. That surprised me. There is a fair amount of arrogance from Mongolians I guess, because no Mongol kid wants to be a salary man or woman, ever!

Openness, and having a big dream are defining features of Mongol mentality, which is why many Mongols may have hard time in Japan. Mongolian country side is not very different from ranches in Texas. Supremely independent people, rough yet generous, tough but honest, but above all, free people.

Myogiryu made his first commercial, for Suntory's iemon-brand special green tea. With a body fat percentage of 22%, 110 of his 153kg being muscles, he is the perfect image character for this tea, aiming to help reducing body fat percentage, as actress Rie Miyazawa announces in the CM. The ordinary guy has 25%.

TV Japan will be showing both Thermae Romae I & II at 2:30 PM (EDST) and 8:00 PM on Sat. 25th April. With English subtitles. An earlier post in this series mentioned that Fujiazuma is in the second in the series. The first movie makes me think of a Roman Max Danger caught in a Japanese bath house.

Part 1 starts in a few minutes on Fuji TV - usually not a good channel for NIJI.

Part 2 should be coming soon, with other rikishi as well, ex-Tochiazuma as shimpan and Akebono and Kotooshu as gladiators.

Terunofuji, who is a top heavy drinker even for the sumo world and who didn't stop during last basho, gave a joking comment when he was in a bad physical condition last basho (then reported as vomiting and diarrhea with cause unknown): "I have to go to the convenience store and buy 'Ukon no chikara' " (a vitamin drink which claims to help against hangover).
The makers of that reacted and now sent him 1200 bottles. "Because I drink it before keiko, training is perfect. Won't there be a CM ..."
He wants to pull even one more time with rival Ichinojo, who already did a CM for Baby Star Ramen.

Because it was in the same paragraph as the word "diarrhea," for a second I thought the drink's name was "Unko no chikara," which would be an excellent name for a laxative.
