It didn't look like he was out but his bandage did come off so there was dust in the air!

Does this remind anyone of the McEnroe era of chalk dust calls?

Also, it looked like Hakuho waltzed his opponent right over to where he could get him to fall right on the shimpan that made the call against Harumafuji. :)

Not for me. I feel uneasiness, and a mixture of thrill, sorry and (slight) disgust. He fights like there's no tomorrow - big show. But here it is for real - no "new game?" button, the crash is not WWE-acted. This man ruins his body*, the next clumsy fall could be his final injury. In the back of my head the question pops up: "has anybody ever died in Basho's action?"

Kyokotenho is the extreme opposite. More pleasant to me!

I must say, too, I am more concerned than amazed by Masunoyama's effort. Someone with his limitations could be doing somethig less demanding than sumo. It is nevertheless motivating to see him working so hard.

Since now we officially know that Baruto and Myogiryu are makekoshi and Goeido kachikoshi, can anyone tell me if Myogiryu's spot as Sekiwake will be filled from below, or will it be just Baruto and Goeido next basho? Is there a set rule about it? Or it depends on whether the final scores of the lower ranked Sanyaku are enough to justify promotion to Sekiwake?

In short: Does Baruto's Sekiwake spot count as normal, or is it an "extra" spot by default?

It doesn't have to count as an extra spot. The last demotion I remember from Ozeki was from Chiyotaikai and he filled the second, S1w spot beside Baruto.

Kotoshogiku and Toyonoshima were not so good for sekiwake promotion. If Kakuryu had 8-7 instead of 7-8, Hatsu 2010 had 3 sekiwakes. IF...

Minatogawa-oyakata will not be punished and carry on with his duties till senshuraku, "anybody can make a mistake like that". The shimpan were told to raise their hands after the bout if they are not sure, the video check can be done then.

The various shimpan raise their hands to stop a bout every day and many times. They usually get it right.

The Fukuoka dohyo has been getting more slippery in the last 2 days. Harumafuji's feet were sliding on the tachiai.

And when Kotooshu was swinging Hakuho around early in their bout, I could swear I saw Hakuho's feet dragging along the ground, and I don't think he was even lifted up all that much.

But what I REALLY don't understand is how that bout ended. What the hell? It looked as if Hakuho either gave up at the edge, or misjudged where it was and thought he was out prematurely. I'm going to have to re-watch it when Kinta puts the video up.
