Preparations of the masses- Nagoya 2021

Recommended Posts

I went to the department store advertised on Amuru's mawashi back in the day simply because it was on Amuru's mawashi, so the advertising clearly works on weak-minded fools with too much time on their hands.

Can confirm. I absolutely purchased Bulgaria Yogurt due to Kotooshu's Jedi mind tricks.

Maybe that's why the first car I ever bought was a Trans-Am.... (Scratchingchin...) Jesse (Takamiyama) used to do commercials for Trans Am back in the '70s.

Hopefully this thread can get back on topic.

There will be no prep of the masses until the rikishi and the press are settled in Nagoya and the details of the Covid restrictions have been worked out.  We may suffer here until shonichi.

For some reason I had a brain fart and thought the basho was starting this weekend. Anyone else similarly deprived of sumo and waiting for it all to start?

Keep us informed how the basho is progressing.  :-)

I confess to buying miso with Takamisakari’s endorsement back in the day.

(Apologies for the irrelevant post but this is pretty essential information.)

For this not happening yet basho,  I'ma gonna go out on a limb here and predict ishiura will face himself (it's not a real basho) on day one and win by henka.  :-P

I do this often, though never before the actual month it’s in has started. I’m usually only a week early.

To be fair, this basho of all basho, being a week early will be the month before the basho actually starts.

DIdn't we use to have a thread dedicated to sumo CM? Am I misremembering the term?

Many thanks. I blame a lack of vitamins. Fortunately, these Calbee chips have all the vitamins and nutrients a sumo fan needs! If they're good enough for Takakeisho, they're good enough for me!

Narutobeya has set up in Narumi, Nagoya for the upcoming basho, and they have set up their dohyo.  They seem to be running around and exercising outside without masks, FWIW.

Fortunately I have the official NSK calendar hanging on my wall, equipped with pre-shaded the basho dates.

The June photo features Ozeki Takakeisho and (sigh) Asanoyama.

Preparation of the Meisei has begun, and he gave a phone interview.

"Its been a while for keiko at our Nagoya lodgings, and its totally refreshing."

The change in environment is a PLUS. He's been training with Hoshoryu and Akua. Due to coronavirus, fans aren't allowed into the lodgings, so they gather up around the entrance to the lodgings to get a glance.

Each keiko has about 20 to 30 bouts. "I don't want to leave anything on the table in training, so I can move easily on shonichi. For this whole basho, since I'm in the joi, I want ganbaritize to PROPERLY get kachikoshi. It's been a while since last Nagoya basho, so I want to ganbaritize for everyone"

Also, there has been a delivery of passion fruit from Kagoshima Amami, its one of his favorites. "Only passion fruit has amazing taste when I eat it. Other fruits are terrible. They might be good for your body, but they aren't tasty I think."

Oops, I missed this part:

He wants Hakuho to participate, as Hakuho should fight komusubi on the first and second day. "Concentrate and do [my] sumo I think. The first part of the basho is important, so is the second half. Most important is to avoid fading out, so I want to persevere and compete"

Well, Meisei will presumably get Hakuho on Day 1, but Hakuho won't fight the other Komusubi until probably about mid-way through the tournament given historical patterns, right before he starts on the Sekiwake (and after them, the Ozeki).

Annoyingly, it's apparently been (exactly) 45 years since an east Yokozuna faced a Maegashira 1 on Shonichi, which is a shame since I think the early match most folks are salivating over will be Hakuho's rematch of last year's epic against (Kakuryu-career ender) Endo.

Although perhaps after that latest banzuke the Kyokai could feel like doing something a bit wild...

Ring ring, who is on the phone now? Its Wakatakakage.

Just yesterday he arrived from Tokyo to Nagoya (This might be another reason of no articles...).

"This time we had to take time to prepare so many things, at the new lodgings (in Nagoya). You could say its a refreshing feeling. Because of the new lodgings."

Since the banzuke was announced, he did keiko with Juryo Wakamotoharu and Koutokuzan. On this day too he did keiko with both sekitori.

"After the announcement of banzuke, you just face the upcoming basho. That hasn't changed. My mind is on PROPER tachiais." As a newly minted sanyaku "[With that in mind], I keep the the tense emotion in mind while doing keiko so I can PROPERLY face the basho."

Its been a long time since we had a travel-away basho, but with the Corona virus restrictions fans cannot attend keiko which is lonely. "Its been a long wait to come here so I will ganbaritize to show everyone good sumo!"

Its probable that he will face Hakuho and the Ozeki (band name??) early in the tournament and looks forward to it. "I will just do my own brand of sumo, PROPERLY!" said Wakatakakage, a bit of a harder interview than Meisei.

Also the journalist makes a pun thing about how Wakatakakages LOW attack (cause he's short right) will stir UP the Nagoya basho. Which made me groan enough to put here.

Takayasu trained today against Araiso Oyakata for 20 bouts. He is still in Tokyo, and intends to leave tomorrow for Nagoya. 'I want to train here till the last minute. I want to concentrate on my health management properly. It's really hot there and it exhausts my stamina (joke - Confucius say "Man who run after car get exhausted") so I need to really take care of my body so that I can exert power for all 15 days. I have been borrowing Araiso Oyakata's chest with all my might in order to do powerful sumo. He went all out in training as well for my sake, and for that I am deeply thankful to him and hope I can get a result that will return that favor. He has been training with me since I entered sumo at the age of fifteen and I am thinking of that as I train with him,  which helps me go all out and use all my power. The fact that after I returned from Kyujo last July I have been able to get good results is all thanks to him. I will be aiming for that Ozeki promotion, as I am presented with a rare opportunity at this time. I want to be involved in the yusho race till the last day. I want to do really good quality sumo!" he declared. Kisenosato will be leaving the heya and will establish his own heya. "As soon as they lift the degeiko ban, I will be going there to train with him.." added Takayasu.  Two straight double digit wins in sanyaku. Ozeki promotion pressure? "I want to be a factor in the basho till the end. More than the win/loss, the quality is important. I want to show stellar, powerful sumo. The results will follow, I reckon. That will be my motivation," he summed.
