None, he's serving as Ikioi's tsukebito on this jungyo. I don't know if that's a permanent arrangement. Maybe Ikioi likes to have a fellow tall rikishi for his keiko warm-up routine. 4
Akinomaki 40,703 Posted August 23, 2019 Shohoryu did the yumitori-shiki at the jungyo in Hakodate - he's a tsukebito of Kakuryu. At the 20 days of the jungyo till then, the task was shared equally between him and Hakuho's tsukebito Kasugaryu, who is the main performer since the Haru basho last year, and lately without a regular replacement. For the jungyo favorite shokkiri, the jungyo top took care to have a 3rd man as replacement, but the yumitori rikishi had none for a while. At the Haru jungyo in April, jungyo no 2. Hanakago asked Shohoryu if he can do it. At that jungyo he performed 3 times, but thought it "A total disaster". This time he practiced in between tsukebito duties, and maybe he'll get 3 days to perform at the Aki basho next. Hanakago names as a point for selecting a yumitori rikishi: "Does he have courage or not", and said he decided on Shohoryu by a feeling. He's makushita and made it up there with a small stature of 170cm, so he must have some. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/column/sumo/news/201908230000287.html he even got called to do butsukari-geiko with Tochinoshin in Kushiro On 21/08/2019 at 17:45, Akinomaki said: Shohoryu butsukari with Tochinoshin vid

Yubinhaad 11,741 Posted January 13, 2020 Looks like Shohoryu will take over the yumitori-shiki from Day 3 - apparently he was meant to do it from the start, but due to a communication breakdown the torikumi-hyo for the first two days were printed with Kasugaryu's name. https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20200113-00000197-spnannex-spo 3

rhyen 1,844 Posted September 3, 2021 With Terunofuji’s promotion and Kakuryu’s retirement, will we see the return of Satonofuji or a new performer from the Isegahama heya?
yohcun 401 Posted September 4, 2021 The guy's 44 now, so I would be surprised.
Akinomaki 40,703 Posted February 10 Satonofuji stopped doing it as soon as Terunofuji retired, the yumitori can be done by a rikishi from the heya of an ozeki - Kototsubasa did it for the rest of the basho. But with a new yokozuna, the new main bow-twirler has to be from Tatsunami-beya: makushita Akua is training for it now, watching the videos of Satonofuji. He aims for yumitori duty as sekitori, the last to do that was Asanowaka Natsu last year. Akua: "I could only say 'yes'", when the oyakata asked him "Would you like to do the yumitori ?" The other option is Kamito, both are training, both are tsukebito of the yokozuna now, both aim for sekitori. oo advice from Kamito o

Given his wealth of experience both in tsuna-making and yumitori-shiki, it would be foolish for the Kyokai not to retain him as a wakamonogashira.

Regarding Akua, half jokes aside, his level is still good enough for him to possibly earn a promotion back to juryo. Kamito better be ready just in case. I hear from reliable-ish sources that he also plans to change his shikona to Shiyomaru when and if he makes it back to a salary.

And many before that iirc. I think the first bow-twirler recorded from when the ceremony started being held everyday was a makuuchi wrestler in 1952.
