Middle school 3rd year Sasaki (14, 177cm, 90kg) from Oushuu-city (奥州, not the Europe Oushuu from Kotooushuu) in Iwate will enter Isenoumi-beya. He experienced keiko and daily life in the heya in December.
He had started sumo in primary school as 3rd year and was one time 2nd in the prefecture wampaku sumo tournament. There are only 2 rikishi from Iwate right now, Nishikigi from Morioka is in the same heya, which also raised former juryo Yotsuguruma from Hanamaki and others - the heya has deep connections to that east-north province.

Nittai-dai 4th year, 2012 student yokozuna and 2013 kokutai champion Nakamura is to enter Hakkaku-beya. His 2 tsukedashi qualifications have expired after a year, he'll start at the Haru-basho in maezumo.

tsuppari is his specialty - he wants to do oshi-zumo sumo like Musoyama and train intensely to improve his speedy sumo and reach the top.

His future shikona is not yet decided.

Omichi at a visit to his hometown said that he has the wish to become a professional rikishi. He has to thoroughly talk it over with those around him and then decide what to do.

Still he talks about a dream of going pro, but he also is designated for a job and talks about the relentless world of ozumo.

Kazuki Ura will enter Kise-beya (of ex-Higonoumi), starting at maezumo. Kise-beya is the biggest heya at moment and has many rikishi with university background.

Ura aims to reach high makushita in 1 year, expecting to hit the wall at first, and sekitori in 2 years.
65kg when entering university he now has 107kg, 172cm. He was 3rd last year in the open weight category of the weight divisions national university championships.

I've just read that WCG lightweight champion Kazuki Ura may be gracing the pro ranks in a year; he's been introduced to Takasago-beya and took part in asageiko recently. He'll be a senior at Kwansei Gakuin University this year. In addition to the WCG title he has also featured in the late stages (last 16) of the All-Japan tournament and been runner-up at two college circuit tourneys despite clocking in at just 171 cm / 85 kg.

among 3 new great ... (新・３大○○) 3 bouts of Kazuki Ura (and he himself) were presented (the one of this thread as the last, the first another sori-waza) and Shikihide-oyakata commented on them (longing to get him for his heya).

To enter Fujishima-beya, as private deshi no.1 of Futagoyama-oyakata (ex-Miyabiyama):
Hikaru Takada (15) from Futtsu-city in Chiba pref., where he won a city sumo tournament, but has no real sumo experience. He was introduced by an acquaintance of later Miyabiyama from his Meiji university days.

Futagoyama-beya was the 1990s powerhouse that included the likes of Takanohana, Wakanohana, Takanonami, Akinoshima, Takatoriki, Misugisato, Takamisugi, Wakashoyo, and Naminohana - a tough schedule for the likes of the Hawaiian yokozuna at the time.
It seems the new Futagaoyama also has scouted his first deshi.

Probably just has to get the paperwork through like Ichinojo. Will probably do maezumo the upcoming tournament or the next and then go into Jonokuchi like all non-college/amateur champions. Rules are the same for all that enter sumo other the 1 foreign born per stable rule.

Starts paperwork, and if he signs up before March he has a one -basho cooling off period where he waits for a viza, gets used to the food and the snoring, and generally tries to learn the ropes. The way things are going, he will be in Mae-zumo in May. As for his starting division, he starts off like everyone else (except for college champions)- Maezumo and then starts the climb.

In any case-not earlier.

Foreigners have to wait one basho before they can enter Maezumo.

In Brody's case:

Entered Ozumo in February;

has to sit out the March (Haru) tournament;

will enter Maezumo at the May (Natsu) tournament;

Jonokuchi debut in July (Nagoya) tournament.

What I find odd is that even the guys who have been living in Japan, even going to a Japanese university, get one tournament off before starting (Ichinojo, Azumaryu). I suppose that they don't have to really be used to living in Japan all that much, having a possible support system that involves their own ethnic food and such that would disappear as they enter a heya, but especially for those who have been to a Japanese university, I can't imagine there really being that much potential for culture shock or whatever else they're trying to get them used to.

Since the system apparently started near the end of 2008, there's one guy that's listed in the DB as being from China that didn't have the one tournament off who ended up being terrible and retired shortly after, so I'm thinking that somehow he wasn't considered a foreigner as it would be rather odd for a stable to recruit such a untested rikishi as their one foreigner. Perhaps he was just born in China and lived most of his life in Japan, but usually in those cases I thought their listed shusshin would be where they first lived in Japan.

I found a Chinese article about this guy. It says that he didn't have to wait because he had a "permanent stay [定住] visa". The article was written before young Cho's (real name: Zhao Yanxu) mae-zumo debut, so it's a pretty sad read after you know that the "another Chinese sumo hope after Sokokurai" failed so badly...

Yeah. The contemporary forum comment about it:

Magaki-beya's Chinese recruit Cho will be appearing in maezumo on Days 7 and 9, the Kyokai announced today. Cho holds permanent residency status, so no need for an entertainment visa, they apparently just found out from the Immigration Bureau. Huh.

Edit: In any case, I don't think the mandatory waiting period was a Kyokai idea. I'm just speculating, but I suspect somebody complained that foreign-shusshin rikishi were competing without proper status, even if it was just maezumo, and the bureaucrats at the Ministry of Etc. (haven't had the opportunity to write that in a while...) leaned on the NSK to do things by the book in future.
