Dai-doh! :-/

There was only an embarassing way to avoid greater embarassment

Ok, he avoided membership in the select 0-15 club, but now he is at least in this club, only the fourth makuuchi rikishi to get the first win after fourteen losses.

Completely different sansho scenario.

Shukun-sho for Takayasu for beating just a mediocre yokozuna - the two ozeki usually don't count - and for having given the yusho winner a hard time ?

– Chiyotairu should have been considered then if he wins: he in addition at least won against an ozeki on yokozuna run and with jun-yusho.

No gino-sho and no kanto-sho for Tokushoryu - had it if he had won (the old 10 wins on shin-nyumaku rule works again).

No gino-sho or kanto-sho at all? Regarding the shukun-sho for Takayasu I think becoming the first Heisei born sanyaku played a role.

a healthy KK in the meat-grinder should get you something after all ...

i am doing a study on Takayasu (i still cannot figure out with is this guy winning so many ... he is one of the best at absorbing impact and he likes his bouts lengthy but is this the answer? i suppose not ....)

(btw ... i am not doing any "study" ... i am just watching his bouts online) (Spooky TV program...)

Kotoshogiku is playing fair and square. Should i start liking him a bit? (In jonokuchi...)

I think you should, at least a bit ;-)

Sure, but the customary sansho for "career-first KK in the meatgrinder without doing anything spectacular" (and beating Harumafuji really isn't) is the kanto-sho, or maaaybe the gino-sho considering it has lost most of its "technique" meaning nowadays. Awarding a shukun-sho instead is kinda weird.

That said, there really aren't a lot of good candidates this time, so awarding just one sansho in all I have no problem with.

hoshi_kuro.gif J9e Seiro 9-6 uwatenage 0-1 J3w Tochinowaka 10-5 hoshi_shiro.gif

What was this ? Isegahama-shimpan declared that Seiro won it gunbai-douri and when both stepped on the dohyo he reversed it to Tochinowaka, apologizing.

Maybe he will be sacked as joint top the shimpan department, as he also isn't in line with the riji-cho on Kise going on yokozuna runs.

Talk-showryu was to receive the kanto-sho had he won. "A double figure Makuuchi debut is worthy of a prize," said one of the guys.

Hakuho gave Harumafuji a gift today.

If he gave Harumafuji a gift today, he gave Kisenosato a bigger one yesterday. I'm inclined to believe he might have been thinking more of the Naadam he'll be participating in and not wanting to aggravate his injury with the yusho already in his proverbial pocket.

He won't be participating in any Naadam. He didn't give anyone anything. He was in bad shape before the basho started. i'm amazed he got the yusho.

I know he will win tomorrow against Fujiazuma. I will be playing him in every game possible to prove my point.. The evil people put 7-7 Yoshikaze against Wakanosato so everything there will be legit.

Daido is on pace to join some rare company.

Another one I will play in all games- Harumafuji over Hakuhou.

We shall see.

Nobody, right? That's what I'm here for..

Kintamayama, thanks for your great work with the videos. Also, your predictions were right on this time. I don't think Hakuho put out much effort against Harumafuji, but the others were hard to pick. Well done.

Now he should be back to square one, like the news sites report, but in NHK news7 talk by the riji-cho came about yokozuna runs being a thing of the mood and that Kisenosato is not necessarily back to the start. Just what I expected of Kitanoumi.

A 13-2 yusho was really Kise's to take this time -- or at least push into a playoff. Unfortunately he just didn't seem to be up to the task.

According to the latest articles, the riji-cho is back to reason again. “It's not enough for heading towards yokozuna. A jun-yusho that counts is with one win difference or the same number.” (So what was it then with 2 wins difference this basho ?)

Still: “He no doubt is an ozeki who can aim for yokozuna.”

It looks like even a 15-0 yusho next basho wouldn't bring Kisenosato there – but who knows how the “mood” is then.

Reports are that indeed day 14 also was a sell-out – for the NSK.

7 days of full house (5 last year, but 8 in 2009 before the yaocho scandal), 4200 spectators more than last year, 86 500.

The sansho committee consisted of 16 people this basho, so nine votes were needed for a candidate to get the sansho. The voting results were as follows.

Shukun-sho:

- Takayasu (11 votes, awarded)

Kanto-sho:

- Tokushoryu (9 votes, conditional on winning final bout vs. Kaisei, not awarded)

- Kaisei (6 votes, conditional on winning final bout vs. Tokushoryu, but not enough votes)

- Aoiyama (3 votes, not enough)

Gino-sho:

- Tochiozan (3 votes, not enough)

Now again the NHK news are out about the mood and a tiny chance that next basho Kisenosato gets the chance to grab the rope.

Harumafuji got double digits – still a bad result for a yokozuna, but now there should be no immediate talk of intai in the YDC.

HF will return to Mongolia after the basho, receiving treatment for his chronically injured ankles.

There was a nice little moment in the arena after Hakuho had received all his awards. He was retreating down the hanamichi and some of the spectators were reaching out their hands to receive a high five. One woman was reaching down as hard as she could from the stands and for one moment it looked like he had passed her and she had missed her chance. Perhaps she called out to him, but just at the last possible moment he reached out his hand and touched hers. Her reaction was to scream and put her hand high in the air as if to say "He touched me, he touched me, look at my hand (I'm never going to be able to wash that again, never!)". She then turned round and showed her hand to all the people behind her.

Somehow, I'm not surprised.

There was another very touching moment -during the yusho interview. Hakuhou spoke of the retiring Ryuuou quite at length, saying that he got to where he is thanks to Ryuuou and the many hours of training they had together. "Thank you , my friend!!" he said. That was really moving. Never heard anything like that during a yusho speech.

Thanks for the videos Kintamayama! Once again the Brazilian fans thank you!

Same for the Dutch fans! Although I don’t know if there’s more than one…
