Kaikitsune Makoto 203 Posted June 28, 2003 The right guy looks like Tamakasuga, but is it the right guy? It is the wrong guy. Tamakasuga is not as fat and besides the middle man looks like either now retired Shinmei or possibly Buyuzan in after shave. We also know that both are in Musashigawa-beya and Musashimaru has ties to Hawaii so the man on the right is probably a makushita level Musashigawa-grappler. Manekineko 200 Posted July 1, 2003 Some more pictures, all scanned and sent to me by Hahanoyama-zeki. (Heart) First two pictures of current Odake-oyakata, moto-sekiwake Takatoriki, in his active days. Man has an unerring fashion sense, devouted fans, and an interesting towel. The character on his towel seems to be called Pepsiman. (In a state of confusion...) Title tells you that this is no recent picture: nowdays weary and worn Mickey couldn't be considered a rival to yokozuna. In the background are Asanowaka and Hamanoshima. Thick glasses and lunatic grin are unmistakeable: it's Robocop Takamisakari matching his strength against music-lover Hokutoriki. It's Takamisakari again, being unbalanced in a keiko bout against Shoes-on .
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted July 1, 2003 Nice Hawaii pictures -- we've seen several beach type pictures on this thread with rikishi, but they're infinitely nicer pictures (IMHO) when there are cute women in them as well... I like the arm-wrestling picture as well. Do rikishi frequently engage in other strength contests outside the dohyo? (In a state of confusion...)
Tony 16 Posted July 7, 2003 In the middle, isn't the rikishi who executes yumitori-shiki?
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted July 7, 2003 In the middle, isn't the rikishi who executes yumitori-shiki? Musashifuji? Might well be. Then again I am prosopagnotic...

Manekineko 200 Posted September 2, 2003 After summer break, I'm back with vengeance! :-D My thanks as always to Hahanoyama-zeki... This is two-parter contribution houring our favourite shin-sanyaku, he of big sideburns and fighting fangs... Let's start with some hairwashing: Of course, you recognise Minatofuji, the Michelin Man... Both jungyo pictures Hm, do I detect a certain similarity? Toki slapping Tamanoshima: Tamanoshima pushing Toki: Both yearbook pictures, one for Toki and other for Tama, taken in the same training session. Toki in a sexy pose and (gasp!) blue mawashi. Tenzan and Kaiho pale in comparison. (Laughing...) Toki having a nap in Aminishiki's lap. Hmmm...
Manekineko 200 Posted September 2, 2003 Part Two! We knew he was married, and this proves the fact: Blushing bride looks happy, but Toki's even happier... Another family-album picture - Toki in his baby days, no trace of sideburns. The legendary sideburns quartet: Flanked by Toki and Takanotsuru, Hayateumi and Aminishiki fake their sideburns using own abudant hair... Sideburns duo - what is it with Ami-chan and Toki? (Laughing...) Bottom picture has them begging sweets from Tenzan. And finaly, no Toki, but picture that couldn'te be taken today: Shuzan and Shoryu side by side... Other two are Hoshitango(?) and ???? Please identify.
Kintamayama 42,735 Posted September 2, 2003 The guy on the left is Kuniazuma the Brazilian, king of all injuries. The other guy I don't recognise, but could be Azumaou, the other Brazilian from Tamanoi, like Kuniazuma.. I figure two couples, each from the same country, but Im probably wrong.. Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Iwakiyama looks strange... I like the guy, and he's in good shape and did a great basho, but still, what's up with that picture? :-)
Kashunowaka 294 Posted September 22, 2003 Iwakiyama looks strange... I like the guy, and he's in good shape and did a great basho, but still, what's up with that picture? :-) You haven't noticed until now that Iwakiyama looks strange? :-)
Kintamayama 42,735 Posted September 22, 2003 Wacky Mountain Man is simply two-dimensional. His face has no depth. If he turns sideways, there will be no profile.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted September 22, 2003 No, I hadn't noticed until now. I think I don't look at the wrestlers enough. I also think this is hurting me in sumo games -- there is some subjective quality that comes with knowing how the two rikishi look compared to each other... Kashunowaka 294 Posted September 22, 2003 No, I hadn't noticed until now. I think I don't look at the wrestlers enough. I also think this is hurting me in sumo games -- there is some subjective quality that comes with knowing how the two rikishi look compared to each other... Oh. I thought you were just pulling my leg. ;-) In Haru basho, Zenjimoto wrote on the Sumo Mailing List in his "Lasting Images" (hey! what happened to those?): 5. Nice gesture from Iwakiyama, stepping down from the dohyo to check on Takanotsuru, whom he seconds before emphatically slung off the dohyo. 'Tsuru was fine, thankfully. Murray Johnson referred to Iwakiyama as a "blue-collar" rikishi... I'm not so sure I agree. Iwakiyama has a college degree! Iwakiyama was a teacher before going into pro sumo! Iwakiyama is going back to grad school! Sounds pretty "white-collar" to me! :) OK, OK, he was referring to the style of sumo. Maybe the fact that he has NO NOSE and looks like a bar-room bouncer had something to do with the blue-collar illusion? :) Iwakiyama's profile is AMAZING: you could put his entire face flat against a wall, without any particular feature protruding! His ENTIRE face would touch the wall at the same time! :) Here's another one: imagine Iwakiyama as your TEACHER! Manekineko 200 Posted September 23, 2003 Here's a more recent picture: aftermath of Tochaizuma's demolishing of certain unbetatable Mongolian yokozuna ;-) this basho. Notice the shocked look on Shoryu's face and gleeful looks in the crowd he landed in...
