Sentoryuu during dohyo-iri

sentoryu.jpg

Who is that in your avatar? His eyes look like Chiyonofuji's.

Yeah Sentoryu has an impressive build!

Wow, I didn't know he was that ripped. So is it mental issues? Slow speed? Lack of technique?

Primarily problems with injuries and lack of height. Additionally, he was of average speed (at least when I saw him, but those occasions were after his first set of injuries). He had amazing fighting spirit which kept him as high as he got, but he was barely tall enough to be allowed to become a sumotori (about the same height as Nakao and Takekaze), but unlike other guys in his height range, he wasn't shaped like a bowling ball or so ridiculously athletic that he could trick his opponents (a la Mienoumi). Still, very sad to see him go.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if he was born with dual US-Japanese citizenship? I know he doesn't qualify to stay on as Oyakata, but I figured that maybe that's why he stuck around so long after injuries knocked him way down....

Also, for more good pictures of him, there's www.sentoryu.com.

Strange. Musashigawa-oyakata never struck me as having been the overly athletic type of rikishi (Applauding...)

Musashigawa-beya special! For no obvious reason.

Musashigawa.jpg

Ah, the glory days... (1999) Musa chasing tsuna, Miya

chasing ozekihood.

Musashigawa1.jpg

Remember the time with 3 Musashigawa ozeki?

And Wakanoyama as komusubi(?). Ah, the glory days...

For those who need it:

top row - Dejima, Musashigawa-oyakata (I guess), yokozuna Musashimaru

bottom row - Miyabiyama, Musoyama, Wakanoyama

Musoyama and Wakanoyama wear the kesho from Musa's

dohyo-iri set, if I'm not much mistaken...

Musashigawa_keiko.jpg

Musashigawa-beya keiko. Musashigawa himself (I guess) with his back

to us, Wakanoyama (in white mawashi) oversees the deshi

doing the locomotion, Dejima looks asleep behind the line on the

right.

Musashigawa_sandbag.jpg

Dejima and Musoyama pumping muscle with help of sandbags.

Rikishi are good to have at hand in case of floods or air-raids!

MusaThorpe.jpg

Aussie swimming champ Ian Thorpe posing with the yokozuna.

(Applauding...) Yippeeeeee! New pics!

For no obvious reason.

Why would you need a reason to post pictures like these.... (Kewl pics! )

The second picture shows something I've noticed before: although I don't really consider Miyabiyama handsome (please, Miya-fans, don't get angry with me, it's just my personal opinion), I think he does have beautiful eyes (Applauding...)

(Kewl pics! ) Thank you! (Heart) (Applauding...)

I need some help identifying the following rikishi with their colorful mawashis:

#1: 001.jpg #2: 002.jpg

#3: 003.jpg

First ones could be Aminishiki and Chiyotaikai, but I'm not sure. My face recognition unit seems to be clogged up today... (Applauding...)

The one on the right is Sumanofuji.

The left one I'm not sure about, but it could possibly be Wakaazuma, the Brazilian who quit sumo earlier this year. From which basho is this?

Once again I am appalled by your rikishi identifying skills. You must possess some unknown cosmic powers... (Applauding...)

Again, thank you. :-)

Definitely Wakaazuma, because it says so very plainly and in large bold letters on his kesho. May 2001, his only ever sekitori basho,he was 4-11. He retired after March 2003.

Career- 251-217-23, 69 Bashos.

Too bad he didn't age well:

Then again, rare are those who look good on these type of of photos. (Applauding...)

My, I would never think of such a simple solution for identifying kesho-mawashied sekitori! (Applauding...)
