Manekineko 200 Posted September 26, 2003 Shin-deshi special. Kokkai. (Blushing...) Kokonoe-oyakata doing his shindeshi kensa duty... Asashoryu. He looked better when he was younger, don't you think so? Kokonoe-oyakata on duty again, is it Naruto-oyakata in the back? :'-( Shoryu's grip-strength is being measured. Asashoryu in his borrowed kesho-mawashi. Asanosho's? Finally, that famous pair of shin-deshi, Waka and Taka. Is it Kitanoumi-oyakata standing next to that number 1 on the wall? IDs of other oyakata would be nice, too... (Feeling guilty...) That's it for today!
Yubiquitoyama 3 Posted September 26, 2003 Kokonoe-oyakata on duty again, is it Naruto-oyakata in the back? (Blushing...) Thanks for the pics! (Feeling guilty...) I definitely think that is Musashigawa-oyakata though.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted September 26, 2003 <flameBait> Kokonoe-oyakata just rocks. He looks better than all the other oyakata, and was a better rikishi than all of them as well. Yes, including Taiho. </flameBait> (Holiday feeling...)
Onnagumo 3 Posted September 26, 2003 Kokkai. (Holiday feeling...) Yup. I agree :-/
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted September 26, 2003 He looks better than all the other oyakata (...) I understand preciously little about male handsomeness but I guess you haven't seen Michinoku and Tatsunami. At least that's what I've heard about women's opinions in this regard. Manekineko 200 Posted September 27, 2003 (edited) Not to forget very recent shisho, Shikoroyama-oyakata (moto sekiwake Terao). Edited September 27, 2003 by Manekineko

Manekineko 200 Posted October 3, 2003 Here's one page full of pictures: NHK sumo commentators, all oyakata/former rikishi. Well, it's all written, but for those of you with even worse grasp of Japanese than me: 1st row: Nishikido-oyakata (moto-Mito) in the times he still had has hair. (In a state of confusion...) Kumegawa-oyakata, former Kotoinazuma. He never had hair. (Punk rocker...) Kasugayama-oyakata, former Kasugafuji. 2nd row: Onogawa-oyakata, former Gan'yu. (Heart) Takasaki-oyakata, former Oginohana. Odake-oyakata, former Dairyu. 3rd row: Tatsutagawa-oyakata, former Shikishima. Lost a lot of weight after retiring, since he suffers from diabetes. (Hugging...) Katsunoura-oyakata, former Kitakachidoki. Best shikona! Tatsunami-oyakata, former Asahiyutaka. That's it! Oh, for interested, my new avatar is Sanji from One Piece, one damn funny and cool shounen manga. ;-)
Asashosakari 14,466 Posted October 3, 2003 Odake-oyakata, former Dairyu. He's Sanoyama Oyakata nowadays. (Punk rocker...) Spectaaaaacular pictures all around! (In a state of confusion...) (Sign of approval)
Manekineko 200 Posted October 8, 2003 (edited) In honor of the holiday, more pictures! Kotokan'yu after a muddy exercise. Toki in the background! Musashimaru demonstrating his yokozuna knot: Kaio looking stern and unKaiolike while having his hair done: Oginishiki (methinks) piling sacks of sand on Kyokushuzan: Various forms of muscle pumping by various rikishi: Top: Kotonowaka, Tomonohana, Chiyotaikai Bottom: Wakakosho, Takanowaka, Otsukasa :-) Edited October 8, 2003 by Manekineko
Yubiquitoyama 3 Posted October 8, 2003 (edited) Oginishiki (methinks) piling sacks of sand on Kyokushuzan: I don't think it's Oginishiki. Maybe Wakanojo? I'm not sure... Thanks for the pics btw :-) Edited October 8, 2003 by Yubiquitoyama
Onnagumo 3 Posted October 8, 2003 (Eh?) (Applauding...) :-) (Kewl pics! ) (Sign of approval) I hope this thread never ends..... Thank you, Manekineko-zeki!
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted October 8, 2003 What's going on in the bottom row middle picture, with one rikishi rubbing a towel around another rikishi's head? :-)
Kaikitsune Makoto 100 Posted October 8, 2003 What's going on in the bottom row middle picture, with one rikishi rubbing a towel around another rikishi's head? :-) Neck strengthening exercise. Sternocleidomastoideus & company gets good workout! More comfortable receiving Taikai's neck thrusts when you have strong neck. That towel exercise is a good one. You can do that solo too by resisting with towel or even just with your own hand. Keep your necks strong folks!
Manekineko 200 Posted October 8, 2003 Oginishiki (methinks) piling sacks of sand on Kyokushuzan: I don't think it's Oginishiki. Maybe Wakanojo? I'm not sure... Yeah, well, possibly. I still mix those two up if the pictures aren't clear. (I am not worthy...) At one point in my sumo-watching I wondered if they were brothers, they seem so similar to me. Zenjimoto 40 Posted October 8, 2003 Yeah, well, possibly. I still mix those two up if the pictures aren't clear. (I am not worthy...) At one point in my sumo-watching I wondered if they were brothers, they seem so similar to me. It's not so easy to tell if it's Oginishiki, without the trademark moles visible (I am not worthy...) Cheers Z.

Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted October 9, 2003 The woman is the oyakata's wife, their mom, right? Right, former Futagoyama Okamisan. A former actress. For more about her. I don't know about the trustworthiness of the article.

Asashosakari 14,466 Posted October 10, 2003 Slightly off-topic, but what is a maiden dinner talk show? I figured they just meant it was the debut of her show...a bad adaption of "maiden voyage" and all that.
Manekineko 200 Posted October 17, 2003 With all this talk about Musa retiring, I'm inspired to make a Musahimaru-special exhibition. In hope it will not turn out to be intai-special... (fingers crossed) Let's start with a splash! Yokozuna dohyo-iri, with two hairy aides - Buyuuuuzan as tachimochi, Wakanoyama as tsuyuharai. Notice the wrist in cast. (Foot in mouth...) Nude descending the staircase. (Laughing...) Well, not exactly, he does wear mawashi, the cast (again) and some more taping on his feet. Behind him an unidentified deshi, and (Heart) Kotonowaka. Visit at tokoyama's. Why is tsukebito shielding him with umbrella? I don't know. (Raining...) Hmm, I wonder what this picture is doing in Musa-special... :-D Need I say? One on the left. This one left me speechless. (Yikes...) Walrus-sumo. Hmmm... :-P
Fujisan 350 Posted October 17, 2003 For a minute there I thought the last picture was Buyuzan and Wakanoyama again until I realised they where too good looking.
