Ack! 497 Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Buckton-san Indeed -- when, not if, Hakuho will set a new yusho record. Knocking on wood though, since I'd hate injury to cheat him of that! Edited October 2, 2014 by Ack!

Gurowake 4,140 Posted October 14, 2014 ozumou.com has at least one piece of very outdated information despite it being labeled as posted this May: they still say MsTD start out at the bottom of the division.

Part 2: If your knee really really hurts and you almost can't stand up, wrap the bandage much tighter and carry on.

Orion 431 Posted October 16, 2014 Rare peek at the sumo school- very cool. And here, some more.. With a little help from my friends, I finally got the pix -- but there's nothing new except that the kids are bare-chested, which makes them look younger and therefore 'cuter' I suppose. In the past I've been to the Kyoshujo with two large press tours and escorting a number of individuals including one man who was good enough to be allowed in to join in the early morning exercises -- (though it took a lot of persuading). One of my favorite memories is of Mainoumi walking to the Kokugikan for the lesson part, having already trained at Dewanoumi. Uni men of course are way above the basics so they train in their home stables but still have to attend the lessons (did you notice Endo in the calligraphy lesson?). I have been keeping track of the lessons, and the only real change came a few years ago when the teacher of shigin, Chinese recitation, retired and was replaced by former makushita Kuninishiki who teaches sumo songs, jinku, to lots of private clubs (and also performs with friends in one of the restaurants at Ryogoku station). The only value of the shigin was breath control, so it makes excellent sense to switch to sumo jinku which are an important part of sumo tradition and youngsters can often earn themselves a tip at a party if they can perform. Mongolith 51 Posted November 5, 2014 First Sumo article I have ever seen in ESPN. Its quite long and a bit outdated. Seems well made but like most Grantland articles he wanders a bit away from the core subject. http://grantland.com/features/sumo-wrestling-tokyo-japan-hakuho-yukio-mishima-novelist-seppuku/
