Just read the article about Hakuho that Kinta posted. Food for thought.

I'd swear he's far too proud to stick around too long and get toppled, but that's not at all likely to happen just yet.

He looks about as weak as Godzilla these days, and quite nearly half as nice.

Perhaps he's getting bored though? Glutted with glory?

Perhaps his biggest risk is losing fans' affection and admiration. He's lost mine.

Hakuho has nothing left to prove really. If he enjoys it and can keep winning, why should anyone care if he continues. He has done too much so he should quit is not a good argument. He should keep going, even to the point where others win yushos but he is in the hunt for the cup. It's all really a personal decision, none of our business, leave on a high or fight til you can't be a yokozuna anymore, it's his choice. Whats the worst thing people can say, oh he should have quit earlier. You can never say he was a crap wrestler.

To use wrestling terms: The guy who will beat Hakuho on a regular basis will be over huge, and you always go out on your back^^ I think Hakuho leaving sumo now, that he gets serious competition would even be kind of weak. I mean, don't get me wrong, he shouldn't stay until he can barely get 10 wins anymore, but when he reaches the point, where he could not win like 4 or 5 consecutive tournaments, he can call it quits. Until then I really want to see more of him. He should at least wrestle until 2017 which will probably be the year I can afford a trip to japan :D

I'd hate to see a return to his 2001-2003 form, where he could barely rack up 5 wins consistently. (Eh?)

Hakuho M.Davaajargal appointed Ambassador for the 2020 Summer Olympics

On July 31, the Mongolian National Olympic Committee has selected 69th Yokozuna Hakuho M.Davaajargal as Ambassador for the Mongolian team participating in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

During a ceremony to present State Honored Athlete and Labor Hero Hakuho M.Davaajargal with a certificate of ambassadorship, he was also awarded with the Order of Golden-Ochir, the highest prize of the Mongolian National Olympic Commitee.

The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics are being held from July 24 to August 9.

Below is a brief interview with Hakuho M.Davaajargal:

Congratulations for being appointed the Mongolian Ambassador for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, and awarded with Order of Golden-Ochir. How do you feel now?

Thank you. I am very happy that the 2020 Summer Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo, the city I grew up in. I am very lucky to represent Mongolia at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Tokyo hosted the 1964 Summer Olympic Games from May 10 to 24, and Mongolia participated in the Olympics for the first time. A total of 17 athletes from Mongolia competed in five sporting events. One of those athletes was my father, Labor Hero J.Munkhbat. That is why I want to participate as an honorary guest in the Tokyo 2020 Games with my father.

Former sumo wrestler Kyokutenho N.Tsevegnyam announced his retirement after competing in the top division of the Nagoya Basho. How did you feel about that?

Sumo wrestlers N.Tsevegnyam, D.Batbayar and B.Enkhbat were the first Mongolian wrestlers in the sumo world. I especially admired brother N.Tsevegnyam when I saw him on Japanese NHK Television. It was very fortunate that I wrestled with him on the same dohyo (sumo ring). I was quite disappointed when I heard about his retirement, but I had my 35th win at the Nagoya Basho. I returned the favor with my 35th win.

You’ve broken numerous records. What are your future objectives?

I want to take my 36th win. It is my most immediate objective. I want to do the dohyo-iri (ring-entering ceremony, performed only by wrestlers in the juryo and makuuchi divisions) on the stage of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. I will try not to retire until Tokyo 2020.

Hakuho grew up in Tokyo - had they added sumo-wise it would be a correct translation.

The Japanese version of the 2nd half is already on the site, both are viewable if you register for free at Mainichi shimbun and get 10 articles a month.

The picture pages are free to view, they contain the whole text of the article - my saved and filtered pages show the text, but I don't know how to view the Japanese text in the pic-pages on the net.

That's a Miyabiyama restaurant article again. Does the link need updating?

Fixed. Aged.
