Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Yokozuna

Recommended Posts

let's be realistic ....

Hakuho is the new Yokozuna while Dejima and Asasekiryu have 0% chances for a yusho.

let's just breath deeply, relax and enjoy the historical moment we witnessed these days ... the birth of the 69th yokozuna. It will be years untill we get to see a new one.

Yup thats right...Its better relax and enjoy it...

I disagree. Yusho-10000% promotion, even a 13-2 yusho.

You never can be totally sure. Especially about the future.

I totally agree, but not about this specific case. You don't have to remind me of a future shrouded in clouds..

(Yusho winner...) I can't wait to see Hakuho's Dohyo-iri !!! (Dohyo-iri...) It should be something to see since it's been so long since Miyagino style has been used! (Sigh...)

I can't wait either! Hakuho looks like a man on a mission every day in this tournament, so focused.

Fingers crossed for a straightforward promotion (after Day 14, hopefully).

Oh, man, I wish I could be at Meiji-Jingu when he does his debut dohyo-iri.

A great occasion in a beautiful setting! And shiranui style on top of that (we hope!)

(Sigh...) Banzai!

Side note- I wonder who will teach him- Takanosato, Asahifuji? Perhaps Futahaguro? (Just kidding)

These quotes just fit in so well with the upset discussion...

Dejima (11-2) over Takamisakari by oshidashi, 7.6 seconds

--------------------------------------------------------------------

(Told that by keeping his two loss record prevented Hakuho from winning the yusho today)

"Is that right? But then I am not interested all that much."

Asasekiryu (11-2) over Aminishiki by kubihineri, 6.2 seconds

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

(On Yusho Race?)

"Now, now...here you guys go again. Well, I guess I am still in..."

They sound so optimistic.

let's just breath deeply, relax and enjoy the .....69

Why is everything with you always about sex (Sigh...) . It's disgraceful that you would cheapen and drag down to the murky gutter such an amazing moment.

Less feta and more cold showers!

Nishi,

I think Aderechelsea meant UAZ-69, a Russian Jeep which has a very confortable behind seat , where french ...........

(What am I talking about ? Jesus....)

Wasn't it rumored a while ago that Asa bought one for Hakuhou? Or was that an AK-47?

After the spectacular match against Chiyotaikai.... Is there any doubt left in anyone's mind?

Not in mine - I thought 'Taikai looked good in that match but Hakuho found a way to handle him.

I can only respectfully to the new Yokozuna. Awesome display of power.

For me the most important moment of the day was Kotooshu's win over Asashoryu! Brilliant and decisive victory, reminiscent of his blue mawashi days. I hope he gets some inspiration from this one - he needs it!

I would rather say Asashoryu lost than Kotooshu win... Asa looked totally miserable. Tachi-ai was soft and high also this lacklustre tsuppari attack doesn't suit him. No momentum. He is in serious trouble.

Time for some heretic musings.

Considering that Hakuho and Miyabiyama were not promoted last year based on the fact that they couldn't generate enough excitement to last up to senshuuraku then Hakuho shouldn't be promoted this time either. I mean tomorrow is pretty boring with everything already decided. No point for the spectators to show up. Hakuho should be punished for this. :-)

Maybe the solution is to pay him money for losing then? :-)

I disagree. Yusho-10000% promotion, even a 13-2 yusho.

You never can be totally sure. Especially about the future.

Maybe if he punches the gyoji tomorrow he won't become yokozuna.

Just for fun, going by my strength ratings, I calulated the odds for Hakuho losing the yusho at roughly 0.3 percent. Much less then 0.1 percent actually if he doesn't face Asashoryu, but Asasekiryu or Dejima. Actually, if I were A or D I really wouldn't hope to get Hakuho as senshuraku opponent as the chance is much better for Asashoryu to beat him, hurt or not.

Although I do not dare to question your strength ratings, I think there is a mistake in your reasoning. I think your strength ratings do not take into account Asashoryu's current condition fully yet, i.e. even if has lost some points due to recent losses, he have not had enough bouts in the current condition for ratings to reflect it fully. It might be easily possible, that Asasekiryu or Dejima in the current condition might be tougher opponts for Hakuho.

(After all, the question of yusho is already settled, I just would like to clear that question as the only explanations for my disagreement with you are that I either do not understand your ratings or you have made a mistake...)

For me the Kaio and Kotooshu wins over Asashoryu have no value. He is obiviouly injured and unable to use his right arm. Neither ozeki would have beaten him otherwise. Todays victory was totally predictable. Same tomorrow. Hakuho will finish with 15-0.

Agreed....I dont think that Asashoryu that weak and misarable. He is yokozuna. I hope he recover immediately.

Well, a yokozuna should have the decency to throw a few bouts here and there to keep the tension up until the last minute. And good work ought to be compensated, no? (Whistling...)

I hope Hakuho keeps up his hinkaku and develops his own style of being a yokozuna instead of copying Asashoryu's not always respectful attitude. He had a bit of a problem with that before the tournament and I hope he can fully break out of the "follower" mentality. His sumo has been awesome this tournament and I hope he can suceed just as well as a yokozuna off the dohyo. (Sign of approval...)

Oh I am pretty sure they will find non-hinkaku like behaviour one way or another in not so distant future.
