There is still Tochitaikai, Wakaikari and Chiyomaru ahead if they all win their last bout (assuming Aoinishiki goes 5-2). And who among Aoiyama, Kiryuko, Oshoumi can save their own skin. If they demote Onosho, then Aoinishiki gets the automatic 4th spot. Edited September 18, 2024 by rhyen

Onosho will definitely stay, they won't over-demote him again. Kiryuko as a new guy is basically toast, so even if Aonishiki ends up 4th in the line, he'll get through
Tigerboy1966 1,539 Posted September 18, 2024 There are already 4 demotable records in juryo, and Aonishiki can be no worse than fourth in the promotion queue. So yes, he's going up.

Akinomaki 41,182 Posted September 18, 2024 Looks like we'll get komusubi Oho next basho, it's not without reason that the sponsors rushed to him to make him no.3 in personal kensho.

It will be a historic sight, so I really hope they don't go for a fix like extensions or, even worse, a syrup. Now, by my reckoning, the earliest he can earn a rope is after Hatsu '25, so he should have an oicho-mage by then. --- Both Takanosho and Oho looked like they were at the end of a butsugarigeiko session. Takanosho clearly ran out of steam and gave up, but Oho looked ready to collapse at any moment. Edited September 18, 2024 by RabidJohn
Akinomaki 41,182 Posted September 18, 2024 Speaking of collapse - Shonosuke is really gambarizing and doing the kaobure for the 2nd day in a row, before that on days 3, 5 and 8 in turn with Inosuke, except a blank on day 7 - today with his last breath, that was how it sounded. Akinomaki 41,182 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) Nishikigi and Takayasu have komusubi bouts with Nagatanien enhanced kensho tomorrow - will our favourite get another jun-yusho or fail again this basho? Next one of them should meet Onosato, the papers mention Nishikigi in this respect - and jinx our man. o Edited September 18, 2024 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 41,182 Posted September 18, 2024 Kotozakura produced a scream of frustration in the bathroom, asked about it he only said "I'm sorry ...", Hoshoryu refused to talk to the media o
Katooshu 3,416 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) Onosato beat Kotoshoho clearly despite the tumble. Kotoshoho was standing half outside the dohyo before Onosato was even airborne, and was already turned away before he hit the ground. Better safe then sorry, but if they aren't going to apply that consistently I'd wish they review calls that deserve reviewing and not bouts that should have been obvious. Octofuji 387 Posted September 18, 2024 Shodai is such a comedian :o) Dumping Gonoyama and seamlessly breaking into a little happy dance. And this just two days after falling backwards and rolling over Abi's backside. He's got so much to give! 2
Reonito 1,613 Posted September 18, 2024 Akua got his kakenage today, so he can consider this basho a success despite his 2-4 record. And if that wasn't a double henka in the bout between Chiyoshoma and Hidenoumi, it sure was a nod in that direction. Chiyoshoma takes on Takerufuji tomorrow
