Aki 2024 discussion (results)

Recommended Posts

I broke my ankle when I was 25 and it did not stop me hobbling through the snow on crutches to get to the pub. It wasn't clever.

Having Nishonoseki tell him "Park your arse in that wheelchair and get mingling" is probably a good thing.

Everybody is turning a blind eye, in good old Japanese tradition, but no harm is done and nobody complains but some foreigners

NHKWorld for some (this?) reason delays the video on YT, but on the site it is available https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/common/player/tv/vod/world/player/?opid=nw_vod_v_en_2061_733_20240921013000_01_1726851803&aacontentid=[nhkworld]vod%3BGRAND+SUMO+Highlights_September+Tournament+Day+13%3Ben%2C001%3B2061-733-2024%3B

watch at 24m53s

Now that it is all but forgotten, they post it together with the 2 last days https://youtu.be/eHbya3ho9Bs?feature=shared&t=1493

Natto has a better quality and the sand moving as Onosato scratches the ground is visible more clearly

Onosato was merely dusting off a spot of the tawara that the yobisdashi had missed, and if the NSK called him out on it, they'd undoubtedly be honour bound to kill the yobidashi and/or the gyoji. Onosato was simply saving lives. He's a hero. With a brand new car and a trophy and a bunch of macarons.

In very related news, is Kirishima going to be on an ozeki run next tournament?

Probably in the middle basho, though a good Yusho may seem him promoted immediately.

Well, a 13-2 basho gets him to 33/3 so he technically meet the requirements to be promoted... whether that would be enough is another question. I don't think 12 wins basho (maybe if it's 12-3 Y) would be enough.

I took a peek at this years polls and I think we might be in for a historically bad prediction performance as a forum as a whole.

I have, as always, been doing my part.

Part of me wishes they would give it to him on twelve because he was obviously struggling with injury and back-to-back 12-3s, especially nowadays when even 13 wins is pretty unusual, should be evidence he's back in form. But the other part of me wants him to take the opportunity by the neck, rip off 35 wins across September-November-January, and leave no doubt. And I'm not sure which part is bigger.
