That list would include ... Isegahama, Asakayama, Asahiyama, Oshima (not Ajigawa).  Which one of those would have the time or the inclination to do this? (Please instruct me).

I've heard speculation that it might be Asakayama, but not really based on anything.

I think you can rule out Isegahama (unless it's to advise Hakuho on rehabilitation after burning scandals).

Sigh. It's one thing to hear of bullying scandals, another to hear it happen to a rikishi you genuinely supported under the watch of the GOAT. I really didn't want it to be true but once it's reported here it almost certainly is.

Excuse me but I'll be away from the Forum and sumo fandom for a bit. Not sure I can process it at the moment.

Apparently another oyakata from the ichimon will take over as the heya master for Haru, and then provide continued guidance to Hakuho on how to run a heya.

Who are the eligible oyakata? I assume that that it boils down to Tomozuna (ex-Kayseri) vs Tateyama (ex-Homarefuji)? Oshima heya is the closest to miyagino heya, relationship wise but Asashio is borrowing his kabu atm?

Where is the prediction ?

I said he will not last as Oyakata for long  when he became one, and was mocked by everyone, including myself. Too unqualified to find the post itself..

Isegahama would be crazy ngl. The other 3 are all pretty unsuccessful, but Oshima has had a ton of success before, so would assume them.

imagine that deep down inside, Miyagino Oyakata doesn't give a rat's ass how his rikishi behave as long as they win. Kaninoyama a year and a half ago.

Anyhow, things seem to be progressing quietly, conventionally and without controversy. @Kintamayama You still think he'll be gone in a couple of years?

Yes, I do. with a heya now, he will be feeling more confident to do things his way. See Takanohana..

I actually didn't like the vibes from Hokuseiho any more after he chose to associate with this people:

Hokuseiho today got a gorgeous new kesho mawashi from the company SAMpartners with hannya and dragon design from tattoo artist Bizen 美漸 - to rally back in the 2nd half of the basho. Hannya are a speciality of Bizen and the dragon is the symbol to rise up the banzuke. He'll use it from tomorrow on (otherwise tattoos remain forbidden on the dohyo). http://hochi.news/articles/20231118-OHT1T51232.html?page=1

Hokuseiho was at the studio in August twitter.com/bizen_bizenart/status/1687653077447593984

Apparently it was very much representing his character

Just seeing a big report on the news about the incident. Video of Hakuho and Hokuseiho apologizing in front of the cameras, Hakuho saying "I failed to protect my disciples and I accept responsibility." Can't quite find a video of it yet but I'm sure it'll get posted soon.

It's big mainstream news here and one can imagine how much this damages Hakuho's reputation as stablemaster from here on out. Whatever plans he had for changing the NSK or sumo, I think he can pretty much forget about them.

Looked like ex-Hakuhou was wiping a tear.

It's kind of crazy that Hakuho (at best) fell asleep at wheel here. He has so much to lose.

A curiosity question, Magaki seemingly isn't being handed any punishment. No expectation for coaches at the heya to be on top of this kind of behaviour?

I'm conflicted on whether it was wiping a tear or a canceled facepalm.

TBS NSta had a good summary, Hakuho didn't report the violence to the compliance committee after he learned of it last year and didn't reprimand Hokuseiho - the NSK really wants to keep him, because he definitely committed enough to be forced out

Miyagino-beya stays independent for the Haru-basho, with an acting shisho from the ichimon and after that the heya will be Isegahama-ichimon azukari, taken over and managed by the ichimon, and Miyagino will be receiving schooling.

Very distressing news. I'm surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) that Hakuho wasn't dotting his i's and crossing his t's given that he was expressly told he was on thin ice before he even became a sumo elder.

He'll be still shisho for the Haru-basho and after that the heya will be Isegahama-ichimon azukari, taken over and managed by the ichimon, and he'll be receiving schooling.

So does that mean the heya's will combine? Or is Isegahama pulling double duty

No, a supervisor will be appointted to teach Miyagino how to run a heya. Think of it as external management.

Asakayama just got elected to the Riji, he is going to have a lot on his plate.

Oshima would be seen as too cushy with miyagino.

Asahiyama would be located too far away for the oyakata to commute.

As funny as it sounds, Isegahama might pick up the slack since he is going to retire soon?

The fact that he hasn't gone reinforces my opinion that the NSK literally cannot afford to get rid of him.

@Kintamayama Is 5 years how long you thought it would take the NSK to recover from the revenue loss due to COVID then? If so, you're probably right.

Obviously this is immensely disappointing for me. I know ozumo to be a harsh and unforgiving lifestyle unsuitable for snowflakes, but the lines that should not be crossed are fairly well established now. Knowing but doing bugger all about it is staggeringly arrogant, IMO.

Thankfully, no longer being a Miyagino fan doesn't really affect my overall sumo fanhood, and none of my favourite rikishi are from that stable anyway.

Will this be a temporary (even if for over a year) arrangement, or is Hakuho basically not gonna be stablemaster anymore?

Slightly hasty conclusion from my side - Hakuho is already done as shisho, the acting shisho from the ichimon is not yet reported. Hakuho also gets a 20% pay reduction for 3 months from his new lower salary. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20240223-36QKFY6VPBKVLAGGNT5OEBEFCU/

It's undecided for how long the heya will be taken over/be part of another heya and Hakuho being educated. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20240223-36QKFY6VPBKVLAGGNT5OEBEFCU/

But it's temporary, more so than the closure of Kise-beya in the past, there it was not obvious that the heya would rise again.
