Natsu basho 2021

ISP: Terunofuji favoured 128-18 by the prognosticators.  Biggest spread I've seen.

If that's the last we see of Akua in makunouchi he gave us something to remember him by. A mighty slap and a spectacular throw.

Judging by facial expression, no-one suffers more in defeat than Tsurugisho. Yutakayama is his nearest rival.

Hmm, why is Endo also coming from the basement parking area?

he has to win the Yusho to get a sansho? Seriously? He beat 2 Ozeki at least. Including the Yusho winner if it isn't him.

Is that a Covid thing? Are they all entering that way?

Is it conditional for both or just the shukun-sho? Hard to parse.

Find Kintamayama's post a page back. Only the Shukun is conditional iirc.

Sorry. I was not clear.

Gino sho is a certainty, shukun sho is conditional.

If he doesn't win the tournament he will still have beaten the winner (eiher Terunofuji or Takakeisho), so yes, it seems harsh to make it conditional.

That's a first; Tamawashi almost leaves the dohyo without collecting his kensho. He's halfway through turning to leave when he sees the kensho, and has to hastily stop and do the tegatana.

Humph, Hokutofuji never seemed to settle into the tachiai. Just looking at him it seemed evident he would lose to Tamawashi. Not a great basho for him. Hope he improves next basho.

Meisei loses quickly.

Is Endo now the frontrunner to replace Daieisho as komosubi?

There's a bit of discussion over this in the promotion thread. It's a close run thing but it's considered that Meisei's much higher rank makes him more likely than Endo; if the banzuke committee really wanted headaches for themselves they could go 4 komusubi with Endo and Ichinojo at K2 but it's more likely that those two wind up at M1.

Takayasu struggled a lot more with Takanosho than I expected. That loss leaves him at 20/30 and with a mountain to climb for Ozeki repromotion in July. He's never managed 13 wins and hasn't even scored 12 for 3 years. He really needed at least 11 this time to have a shot in July. Still, it's a good enough record to be the first in a new run.
