Here we go.... still can't believe a Tokushoryu v. Shodai match has such importance...

Would 14-1 or 13-2 good enough for Terunofuji to get promoted?

There are few precedents for this kind of rank/score result. I think the consensus among the wise ones is that 14-1 should do it with ordinary banzuke luck.

Holy ... Tokushoryu!!!

Who is this man, so light of foot and calm under pressure?

That was not luck, Shodai the negative thinker was back on the dohyo

Go for it, Toku! Brilliant. And it was great sumo as well. No luck.

Me three days ago: "He's done great so far. That said, I'd be surprised if he gets past Kagayaki tomorrow."

Me two days ago: "He's done great so far. That said, I'd be surprised if he gets past Yutakayama tomorrow."

The guy keeps defying all expectations.

That said, I too will be surprised if he gets past Shodai today.

(Cue Takashoryu easily waltzing past Shodai.)

:-O

WhATTTTT?!??!!?!!!

Moving on from this, fantastic sumo from Tokushoryu, he earned that victory well.

He's now beat the man who beat the san'yaku slate, but surely... SURELY... they have to give him Takakeisho tomorrow?

Congrats to Tokushoryu on taking that all-important consecutive tsukiotoshi record. B-)

I always used to like Tokushoryu when he wore his baby blue mawashi, but just because I thought he resembled a giant infant when he waddled about, not because of his sumo. He's defying all expectation. It's all in his own hands now. Win tomorrow and whatever Shodai does makes no difference.

I'm speechless. I guess Takakeisho is blasting him out twice tomorrow, but who the hell knows what's gonna happen anymore.

Opponent pushes Tokushoryu to the bales then falls over. Haven't I seen this before?

Returning from Juryo

Ah. I think a returnee to Makuuchi from Juryo takes the 'sai' prefix: sai-nyumaku.

Anyway, it seems it's only happened once and never in the 15-bout era:

It's 返り入幕 (KAERI-NYUUMAKU).

But it is called kaeri-nyumaku when used in this context

I know the Emperor has a busy schedule, but arriving for the second half of the Top Division on Day 14 meant that he missed seeing what was perhaps the most significant bout of the tournament involving the potential yusho winner!  Sigh.

I wonder who the new Kotomitsuki of Aiko is - on Abema they didn't know that she would be there - they hadn't listened to the hall announcer

In what other context would you use it?

The Kyokai refers to Tokoshoryu, Ikioi, etc  as 再入幕

You say sai-nyumaku suru, but when you have returned, you are a kaeri nyumaku, who has sai-nyumaku shita

Hmm. I see. It is being used as a noun in the link though.
