Benihana 1,937 Posted January 8, 2017 I'm not his biggest fan, but i admit he probably is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. Now we have some people here on the forum - i wouldn't call them heretics - who say his time is over and he will never again have a zensho yusho. I don't think so. Maybe he will not dominate like in the past, but he is still good for 1 or 2 zensho. What do you think?

As long as he has the motivation to do it I dont see the problem, he isn't that old yet (31).. My benchmark is always yokozuna chiyonofuji he retired a few weeks short of his 36th birthday and still was going strong.
MumboJumbo 37 Posted January 9, 2017 I think he still has a few more left in him. When Hakuho retires I don't think he will be as old as Chiyonofuji was when he retired, but I do think Hakuho still has a few more years in him. Easily more than enough time to get at least one zensho, even if he is in decline.
Andonishiki 170 Posted January 11, 2017 Hakuho will win a few more basho, I believe, but no more zensho. He has proven multiple times that he is the best rikishi of the modern area. nothing left to prove. age is kicking in. almost all records broken already. Zensho requires 15 days of hunger, full concentration, superiority and also a bit of luck. and very likely, the nod of the NSK & pre-bout hand-over of some envelopes filled with colored paper that have some zeros on it.... where's the benefit for Hakuho to go through all this again ? I don't see it. he will break the record for most wins and probably get up to 40 basho yusho. but already 2016, he didn't get the most number of wins for the calendar year, as he rested one basho - which 'allowed' Goeido to get his yusho 14-1 at best, no more 15-
Bumpkin 438 Posted January 11, 2017 I say at least one more and probably two more zenshos. Also, at least six more yushos. That will give him 43 for his career.
Dwale 419 Posted January 13, 2017 I think he's got the potential for more, sure. Do I think he will? I would say the probability is high.
HYI 8 Posted January 14, 2017 Also I think that he will retire in 2nd half of 2018 and will win 5 yusho-s more.
Churaumi 745 Posted February 4, 2017 As beat up as the top of the banzuke is, he has a chance. It might require a tournament where a lot of the top guys are hurt and he is feeling better than he has lately, but a lot of the top guys are beat up these days. It'll help him if the other two Mongolian yokozuna hang on longer than expected as well as Terunofuji and Kotoshogiku.

WAKATAKE 2,677 Posted February 25, 2017 Hakuho seems to be in a lot better shape than Ama and Kak these days. But with the younger generations coming up strong, he is being challenged constantly, especially with his nemesis finally becoming his equal. Seeing as how he's also been injury prone lately, he's bound to drop one or two every now and then each basho. I believe he can stack some more yusho under his belt, but not zensho. Kaminariyuki 500 Posted July 11, 2017 I think now the question is "Can he make it to 69?" Seems unlikely, but I'd not be counting him out. We may be looking at two consecutive zensho.
Asashosakari 19,688 Posted July 19, 2017 Darn, I already had a "Will Hakuho ever not zensho again?" quip lined up for senshuraku...
Benihana 1,937 Posted March 24, 2019 That makes it 15 in total. Let's see what the docs say about his bicep. THIS really could have been it.
