one more try

Unfortunately the posts kept ending up on page 5 and I had to post 15+ more than necessary, till I checked the page before and then had the posts on page 6.

Nice way to jazz up one's post count!

How many more before hitting the top ten? ;-)

Maybe the hide function would be better for pic/vid embedment heavy threads?

I think Akinomaki is pretty much excused from that particular offense.

A 1984 program: Christmas at Fujishima-beya, with Waka-Taka still as kids, a still slim Akinoshima (Yamanaka), young Takatoriki (Kamakari), heya top at the time Takanohama (later Toyonoumi): the only other later sekitori and the only other I know.

On TV last month:
some weird entertainers who want to learn about sumo went to Takadagawa-beya and talked to ex-Akinoshima: many old sumo scenes and new about keiko at the heya

NHK World in English now has video on demand for a week for some programs, longer for a few others: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/vod/

This Tokyo Eye travel program is from last week: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/vod/tokyoeye2020/20151021.html

It's focus is on the Albanian ambassador and his wife visiting Ryogoku, the kokugikan, Tomozuna-beya etc.

Downloadhelper can download it.

The Tokyo Eye programs seem to be available for long, the oldest is from June, maybe even from when they started VOD.

NHK World Sports Japan documentary on the recent 2015 Sumo World Championships in Osaka featuring guest star Nishinoshima who did a fantastic job as announcer -especially with the difficult pronunciation of all the alphabet soup. names. Also featuring is another true gentlemen of sumo- Kena Heffernan from Hawaii training under the watchful eyes of Musashimaru and of course the always entertaining Baruto who is also a brilliant coach and great fun to party with. Kanpai on a great job in focusing on amasumo which can be very exciting with all the different shapes, sizes, personalities (or lack of), range of martial arts backgrounds and unbridled passion. Maybe I missed the announcement somewhere, why wouldn't he tell us?
Tomorrow on the English side for NHK we'll have Ross Mihara with John Gunning.

If you have satellite access, in Europe JSTV has (for a bigger fee than the NSK feed) the NHK broadcasts.
I can watch only the news on JSTV, but can also listen to the English side for free.

how do women do butsugari? More pertinently how do mixed-gender groups do butsugari? I don't think "lending their chests" is near the top of these womens' bucket lists....

The recording of the TBS "Job tune" special (half) on sumo was done on the 21st.

Ichinojo had announced to be 210kg (now 214) - in his (old) view not human anymore but animal: Asked what animal he said "Cattle, or the like" http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1582224.html
Hakuho made his "Hakuho special": of beer, champagne etc.
and drinks the most part of it - the others here: Terunofuji, Yoshikaze, Toyonoshima, ex-Kyokutenho
sm-haku-arai-P20151221-ogp_0.jpg
also there: Aminishiki and Asahisho

To be aired on Jan. 9th.

Isn't that cocktail the one that Toyonoshima complained about on an earlier episode of Job Tune?

Can't believe that he is drinking it again, unless Hakuho has improved the recipe...

And Oshima-oyakata's face...

As someone who's trained with women in amasumo, the answer is this: You focus more on doing the practice and less on "OMG THERE ARE BOOBIES THERE."

The idea tachi-ai position has the hands under the armpits and the forehead either in the sternum or on one of the shoulders, so there isn't much opportunity for fondling if it's being done right.

Well there goes my motivation for training amasumo... haha just kidding.

Some minor changes, there is a rock and roll soundtrack for to Kakuryu & Harumafuji's Yusho flashback, compared to a chambers soundtrack in the YouTube video.

And the interviewees among the general public are not pixelated.

Here, he offers another gourmet report where he is given 2700 yen for a meal. Originally, he was allowed 3000 yen until his heya made the 2700 yen restriction to enforce a diet encouraging weight loss. It failed.

. 203kg then compared to 210kg today. Sorry, subs are not available. Edited by inhashi

Tomorrows NHK weekly news fukayomi (read deep into - but also "read too much into") has as main subject "Manin-onrei! Why is sumo popularity back?", also about the yusho of Kotoshogiku. The first 30min. are just news of the week.

This is mainly a talk round, often lengthy but with simple explanations for everybody. Expert guests are especially ex-Wakanosato and sumo announcer Kariya (2 more experts and 2 unrelated guests). This is free to view on JSTV (and similar carriers of NHK kokusai housou), 2 times: Saturday 2:50 (+30m) a.m. CET -4:05 and 9:15a.m.-10:30.
