Naganoyama 5,949 Posted July 14, 2012 I love the way that Ikioi always tries to pick his opponent back up again and put him back together. Brilliant sound effects for Chiyotairyu-Takanoyama slo-mo.

Gusoyama 104 Posted July 15, 2012 Loved the slo mo sounds on teh Takanoyama match Ikioi/Tamawashi was incredibly spirited! Was that Daido's blood on Yoshikaze or his own? I think that kid yelling constantly before, during, and after every single bout would get on my nerves. There is not much faster in sumo today than a healthy Harumafuji. Hodor, I mean, Baruto's becoming very predictable with his "over the top" routine. I guess if it works, it works. Hakuho looks to be preserving or protecting something. Vikanohara 171 Posted July 15, 2012 I don't agree with the halfway statement of a boring day so far, as mainly in the beginning of the video I rewatched several bouts because of the interesting moves & turnarounds. But in the middle, it was not so great indeed. And some guys are going to cost me big in most pre-basho games.
Mukonoso 273 Posted July 16, 2012 The dohyo may be slippery but it also seem to be developing bigger cracks on the camera side than I'm used to seeing. Which sub forum would I go to to talk about dohyo? I've been having a few questions gathering about them but my wife doesn't seem to know much about sumo even though her grandfather used to take her to matches (she was just interested in the bento (Sigh...) ). Jakusotsu 6,052 Posted July 16, 2012 Cracks in the dohyo are quite common in Nagoya. Must be something about the climate...
Morty 1,505 Posted July 16, 2012 Hakuho consistently amazes me. No-one else would have survived that start against Goeido. Only Hakuho could go nine straight wins and be described as looking shaky :-). It's not that everybody else is bad he is just so much better than the rest
Asashosakari 19,688 Posted July 16, 2012 Which sub forum would I go to to talk about dohyo? Ozumo Discussions is the catch-all area for everything not directly related to a basho.
Bugman 384 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Harumafuji is one of the cleverest rikishi i reckon, apart from being tough as nails he seems to have a pre-thought out game-plan for every specific opponent (at least it looks that way to me) Baruto who looks so solid against just about everyone else looked slow to react and was totally pulled off balance. The next time he meets Harumafuji he should try an all-out, brutal tachi-ai, Harumafuji does not Henka too often as he is an Ozeki and Baruto's biggest strength is his strength :D so that's what i'd like to see next time from Baruto when he meets Haru again, he may just well overwhelm him, or he might charge off the dohyo, trundle through through the back wall and end up standing outside in the car-park, blinking confusedly in the evening sun after being Henka'd, i've got to hand it to Haru, i don't cheer for him but i think that along with Hak he is the best, and the most exciting. i just remembered Harumafuji's last victory over Baruto, he did some kind of amazing rugby tackle on him and sent him out, he seems to outsmart him every time. yorikiried by fate 2,029 Posted July 16, 2012 Well, he outsmarted him for the 14th time out of 26. Doesn't look like a clear trend to me...
Bugman 384 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Well, he outsmarted him for the 14th time out of 26. Doesn't look like a clear trend to me... You're right, there doesn't seem to be any trend there, i think the reason i felt Harumafuji was always winning was because i've seen this rather helpless looking spin been done on Baruto by Harumafuji twice, and i think he won the last encounter between them too in some considerable style, for someone with a short memory like me it looks like Harumafuji was very dominant but as you point out, the stats don't really back that up, they look pretty even. shumitto 418 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Only Hakuho could go nine straight wins and be described as looking shaky Though roads ahead of the closest competition, Hakuho is not displaying his best brand of sumo. If I had to guess why, I would say he is either not physically 100% yet or is just saving some energy for the second leg. Spirited sumo from Tochinoshin. He is giving it all. And he's gonna take it again, because summer time is harumafuji time baby Look at my sexy eyes. I got this. It's cool.

I think HF's most similar to Asa in terms of speed and agility, although not so much in the strength category.Where he needs that, he wisely uses leverage rather than brute force. What he does have is cunning. And, when healthy, balls. He's essentially what Aminishiki was, but in a smaller package, with better knees. He knows Baruto's MoO (I here interject "Method of Operation", just in case people start looking for B's udders...) I think he knows everyone's MoO. Baruto can only beat HF when he's quicker on the draw, and/or when HF's on the limp. I think the only thing stopping HF from being promoted is his lack of sheer power. That, and his occasional habit of having Brain Lock-Ups. He's looking great this basho. I wish he could put a few excelent bashos back-to-back.
