Takanorappa 97 Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks, Moti! Not only have you made it easy to watch Oozumo, but you cleared up some lyrics for me. I always thought it was "Give pizza chants". It makes more sense now. ;-)
Bugman 384 Posted March 11, 2012 I've been looking forward to this, your compilations are the icing on the basho-cake for me :) that was a great evasive move by Hakuho there at the end, and i really wouldn't have liked to be on the receiving end of that Kotoshogiku tachi-ai! thank you very much Kintamayama (Sign of approval...) Treblemaker 254 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Coupla nice henkas there... And some half-decent throws. Again, I thank you for this. Late edit: Watching a second time, I'm still amazed by Miyabiyama's agility and footwork, for someone so big, and not so young... And a true example of Baruto's strength, rolling that big pork barrel that is Gaga. (Then again, the Barrel does an awful lot of rolling anyway, doesn't he?) Yubinhaad 11,954 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) For those who haven't seen it on araibira's channel - the minute's silence in remembrance of the victims of last year's earthquake and tsunami, and the opening address from Kitanoumi-rijicho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOyljjwwiLk Edited March 13, 2012 by Yubinhaad
Asashosakari 20,211 Posted March 11, 2012 Speaking of which - who's the twitchy guy at the head of the second column from the left? Seemed very out of place for a moment of silence. And perhaps it was just due to the date and the content of his speech, but Kitanoumi looked a lot less confident to me than back in his first rijicho stint... Senkoho 552 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Speaking of which - who's the twitchy guy at the head of the second column from the left? Seemed very out of place for a moment of silence. Tokitenku? Daido? Edited March 11, 2012 by Sekokenzan
Fukurou 534 Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks once more for posting these videos, Kintamayama! Perhaps it's my imagination, but Kisenosato seemed "slow" (not quite the right word) - like he was reacting to what was happening instead of trying to make his own advantages. I realize a rikishi has to react to what his opponent is doing, but Kise seemed to be doing it from the beginning, almost going at half-speed or something. My imagination, or was something off for him in that match?

Is it possible that the KO he suffered in the last basho may have dented his confidence? i don't watch any other contact sports, but my friends tell me that in other contact sports when a previously successful fighter is KO'd for the first time, sometimes they lose a deal of confidence in their ability to absorb punishment, perhaps not as Sumo is different and these guys are training with each other all the time, but i definitely felt he did not look as confident as he so often does, he looked shaky and somewhat un-coordinated actually, compared to his usual calm and balanced style. Gusoyama 104 Posted March 12, 2012 Awesome videos as always, and I like the length, and commentary. Mostly good bouts, with only a few stinkers(Aran, I'm looking at you. And you too, Takekaze) Hakuho looked weak, but the Ozeki looked like Ozeki today, with the exception of Kisenosato, who got the jump, and the advantage early, only to come up WAY short, looking weak and ineffectual.

Bugman 384 Posted March 12, 2012 Shobu-ari means "we have a decision", this is the kind of information that sticks with me and i'm so keen to learn, i wish i could speak japanese as i'm sure i'd learn much that i must miss every day, i really appreciate small translations like this :) "Takayasu wins by the rare technique Ushiromotare, essentially pushing his opponent out with his ass... " (Whatever above, it is funny...) that had me in stitches, it's a good thing i read this whilst putting my coffee down and not while drinking from it. Andreas21 219 Posted March 12, 2012 I've been following your youtube channel since a few bashos. I would like to give many thanks to you for the effort put into it. I really love it for the minimality. It shows me just what I like the most in Sumo: the actual bouts. Cheers Andreas

What's even funnier is that it's true, although it used to be called "oshirimotare"..
kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) As for the incident you commented on during the Daido - Takarafuji bout (at 1:16min), I think it's obvious who dunnit: Takafartfuji :-) Edited March 12, 2012 by kuroimori
Ruziklao 34 Posted March 12, 2012 Miyabiyama's slap downs are more interesting than poor henka slaps, but anyway... did he resign from trying to make forward moving wins altogether? (In a state of confusion...) Aran's hen is 3/5 of henka, in fact. ;-) Are you sure that the reactive engine was used by Takarafuji for attack and not by Daido for defence? (Punk rocker...) Takayasu's move looked like preparation for defensive rebound in basketball, clearing the area under the basket and around. B-)
slt 9 Posted March 12, 2012 Kinta - as always, thanks for these videos. Nice controlled win by Kotoshogiku again. I like his sumo.
Kuroyama 715 Posted March 13, 2012 It's kinda surprising the "onaradashi" doesn't happen more often, all things considered... ;-) I don't remember whose bout it was now, but at one point there was a matta, and whoever was on the east side bowed toward the north. I couldn't tell if there was a particular person there he was bowing to, but there was applause for the gesture. Anyone know why they might have liked it so much? Gusoyama 104 Posted March 13, 2012 Thoughts on day 2: Chiyotairyu looks mighty good, lets see if he can keep up the pace. Just a little factoid: He's only 3 1/2 years younger than Hakuho, who at Chiyotairyu's age, was a yokozuna with just under 10 yusho. Just goes to show how amazing Hakuho is, once again. Takanoyama's just too small. He's not going to succeed at that size. Takarafuji really had the mid-90s tachi-ai, his fists maybe got in the same zip code as the ground. Was the Tenkaiho/Miyabiyama match in slomo? No? Would people consider Chiyonokuni's tachi-ai a henka? I personally would not because he engaged, THEN spun to the side. Good lord, Baruto is power incarnate. Kotoshogiku with another one of his hippity-hop wins. Gotta love em. Kisenosato looks baaaaaaaaaad. Why the dirty look by Gagamaru? I saw no dirty stuff. Maybe it was the "Here, you slow fat ass, let me help you up."? Good to see Hakuho looking strong today.
Yubinhaad 11,954 Posted March 13, 2012 Takanoyama's just too small. He's not going to succeed at that size. All things are relative - considering his size, maybe just being in Makuuchi is success of sorts.

All things are relative - considering his size, maybe just being in Makuuchi is success of sorts. Looked to me as if he's been just a tad late getting into the tachi-ai. His problem is that if he doesn't seize the advantage immediately, he's just going to get run over.
