55 minutes of Akebono, in Japanese - no need to understand

The uploader, sumOtOri, has a good selection of videos on his or her channel, including long or longish ones about Kirishima, Konishiki, Mitoizumi, Takatoriki, Kotonishiki, Terao, Hakuho and Harumafuji

https://www.youtube.com/user/sum0t0ri/videos?shelf_id=1&sort=dd&view=0

Here is his rutube account with even more goodies.

Would appreciate if someone can tell me a easy and painless way to download some of the older videos

Just type 'video downloader' into Google and you'll get several to choose from. They're easy to use (copy and paste the URL then click 'download') and free. Chrome has one in the webstore with user reviews. There's also

http://www.videograbby.com/

http://www.freemake.com/free_video_downloader/

and plenty more.

It's actually the fourth episode from the British television program The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure where Simon and Dave visit what looks like Tokitsukaze beya.  It was broadcast a few years ago, but why is Fujinohana at the heya cooking with them?  Is he just visiting? There for translation?

From a Fuji pay TV ozumo series the first 2 episodes. Yaku Mitsuru interviews former popular rikishi about their personal 10 best bouts.

1 Terao

2 Mitoizumi

more episodes: http://otn.fujitv.co.jp/b_hp/915200067l.html- maybe they'll appear as well - if the channel doesn't disappear soon

3 Mainoumi

5 Washuyama (retired Dewanoumi)

The channel has disappeared but the videos got re-posted, now also Kyokudozan, but not Washuyama:

Re-uploaded 2009 Japanese version docu on Kyokutaisei, Tu Seras Sumo.  Sorry, no subs yet.  For those who have not yet seen this, spoiler warning below!

Happy 27th birthday to Kyokutaisei today! (Holidayfeeling...)

I saw this docu before with French subtitles. Now that I see it again, knowing a lot more about heyas compensates somewhat for my language deficiency, and I noticed other things I didn't remember from before.
I wonder what Kyokutaisei makes of this portrait of his struggling younger self today. I am so glad he made it and has more than vindicated himself. Happy birthday!!

edit: I seem to remember another cut, with more desparate phonecalls to his sister, scenes about the chores and shopping and running away, and a different ending. Does anyone remember this?

Yes I remember it. It was one of the documentaries I watched before starting to watch every basho. I've mentioned in other posts and when talking to other members that there was a bullying scene in a documentary that almost stopped me from watching sumo. It was in the former version.

There's a new upload of the Chiyonofuji 1045 wins video on YouTube. I think it's the only one extant now, and this time it's good quality and has an interview with Kitanofuji at the beginning and at the end.

PS the YouTube account which uploaded the video below has been 'terminated for multiple copyright infringements', but I've got it in my computer ...

Another shorter documentary. You see a bout when Chiyonofuji was still in makushita. There's a running interview with him, There's one with Kitanofuji, There are doyo-iri and keiko as well as bouts.

Short one

All in Japanese.

42:35 minutes interview with Kitanofuji (in straggly mustache) and Mainoumi. Discussion of various rikishi with clips of bouts etc. Joined about halfway through by Wakanosato and Kyukotenho. Noisy portentous incidental music.

For Nishikigi fans. 12:36 minutes.

I find the blurring of interviewees pretty interesting, anywhere else, everyone dreams of being on the tv.

Yes. I thought at first there was something wrong with my computer.

Somebody put his old video from the tenran-zumo (in front of the Tenno) of day 1 of Hatsu 1999 on YouTube (not in the Kuramae -, but of course the Ryogoku kokugikan). That day the Imperial couple was there for the dohyo-iri as well.

Everybody please start the second video and jump to 1:50. What a wonderful tachiai. Spectacular. Nowadays you could hear the matta round the globe.

Recent broadcast Kokonoe beya and its current shishou, former ozeki Chiyotaikai.  Also a little focus on makushita deshi, Chiyosakae, interacting with the oyakata during training closer to the last half of the program.

@luispereira Thanks, this is just the kind of video I can send to a friend who is genuinely interested in sumo but quite baffled by the many things that surround it.

yeah, you're right, nice thinking, spread the word!
