Flying_Monkey 0 Posted January 22, 2006 So Hakuho destroyed Kotooshu, but then Asa put in as limp a performance as I have ever seen him do against Tochiazuma. At least someone other than Asa won and makauuchi looks more open than ever now, but I was so hoping for a fight-off and for Hakuho to get the yusho... aderechelsea 125 Posted January 22, 2006 i am disppointed too .... at least he could have won it in a kettei-sen and sugarcoat my pill ....

I. was hoping for the Kettei-sen......sad... But now, watching the stream, see Tochiazuma fighting with himself, proud but.....dunno how to say it. (I am not worthy...) + (Nodding yes...) I am happy for him and the nice "Tamanoi family" I feel near to because of their blog. (And again, thank you Madorosumaru for translations and PMs). Can't wait for the sorys and pictures from the Yusho-party. (Dribbling...) Tooyama, the blog-boss of Tamanoi managed his 5-2 today. :-) (Applauding...) for Tochiazuma, happy about Buyuzan's 10-5, Minemura's 4-3, Tochinonada, Futeno , Tokitsuumi, and many others. Am a little sad about Hakuho and Ama, :'-( ing about Kaiho's 7-8 but all in all I got a harmony-feeling. (Applauding...) I think Hakuho will be kicking himself now! If he hadn't messed up Asa so badly, Asa might have stood more of a chance of beating Tochiazuma today, therefore giving Hakuho another (deserved) shot at the yusho... next time! Guest bnona Posted January 22, 2006 poor asashoryu, couldn't help to Hakuho. I'm sure he isn't injured

If he hadn't messed up Asa so badly, Asa might have stood more of a chance of beating Tochiazuma today, therefore giving Hakuho another (deserved) shot at the yusho... next time! I kinda doubt he would have lost to Ama and maybe Azuma if he didn't get injured, resulting in a ketteisen at least against Hakuhou, which I'm not sure Hakuhou would have won, so the reasoning seems a bit..well.. On the other hand, it's Hakuho who lost to Tochinohana on day 7. I'm really happy with Tochiazuma getting the yusho. Hope he will perform on the same level next basho. (Nodding yes...) ilovesumo: umm, are these translations of Tamanoi blog somewhere availble on the web? If yes, I would be grateful if you could give a link to it. (I am not worthy...) Shimpu 0 Posted January 22, 2006 (edited) "You know, we, Japanese rikishis, need to do much more to help make Ozumo more exciting." (Applauding...) Azuma ! ! ! (Nodding yes...) I am glad to see Tochiazuma (I am not worthy...) as a winner of the Hatsu Basho. Great performance - solid, sharp, calm. I think he is now mature enough to notice that he is the best Japanese rikishi at the moment and all Japan (and much more) is caunting on him. He is able now to aim for the top. (Applauding...) That was really great tournament. (Sign of approval) Edited January 22, 2006 by Shimpu
Azumashida 1 Posted January 22, 2006 Now that my other favorite rikishi Hayateumi has retired, I'm very happy that Tochiazuma is striking back! (I am not worthy...) Looking forward to the Haru basho, especially since I'll be in Osaka (first visit to Japan) to see his run for the tsuna!
Dale 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Am a little sad about Hakuho and Ama, :'-( ing about Kaiho's 7-8 but all in all I got a harmony-feeling. (Blushing...) Hakuho and Ama have great futures ahead of them. I'm a big Kaiho fan too. I'm a little sad that Tamanoshima didn't manage to get his kachi-koshi. But he came close... Dale
aderechelsea 125 Posted January 22, 2006 i don't even want to comment on Kaiho's MK .... it was preposterous. he was 7-4 by day 11 and MANAGED to lose all his remaining bouts ... especially those against Kotokasuga and Harunoyama hurt me the most ... well ... best of luck next time and double digits (in wins please) if possible. Andreas 0 Posted January 22, 2006 The result isnt that bad for Hakuho... with 22 wins in 2 sanyaku basho, he has got a good shot at ozeki promotion in haru. 12 wins should do it, maybe even 11... Go Hakuho!
ilovesumo 12 Posted January 22, 2006 Hey folks, if you want to greet Tochiazuma and the Tamanoi boys, use this LINK and scroll down. First field is name, second message title, 3. your URL English is ok. Tooyama is happy about each comment. I am very thankful that he writes so honest and funny. Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 22, 2006 http://www.tamanoi.com/ another noticeboard can be posted to here - main Tamanoi homepage. Lot of the locals post here and it is a pretty good all round page. Probably have the pics of the victory parade on this page in the not too distant future. Friday I think.

Go Hakuho! I feel that 11 may not be enough for Hakuho since that will result in too many (5) ozekis. But of course if either one of Kaioi or Chiyotaikai retires or Azuma gets promoted next basho, then that may be sufficient.

Just being light-hearted so there's no need to have a go at my 'reasoning'... in any case, I think Hakuho would have beaten anyone in the last few days of the basho: a fit Asashoryu, Tochiazuma, anyone... he was on fire! Barring injuries, Hakuho will be Ozeki after the next basho and Yokozuna by the end of 2007. Still, I am happy for Tochiazuma...
sekihiryu 51 Posted January 22, 2006 (edited) Barring injuries, Hakuho will be Ozeki after the next basho and Yokozuna by the end of 2007. 9-6 at Komusubi, 13-2 at sekiwake, an educated guess would be 12-3 next basho as an absolute minimum for that to happen, a Yusho would seal it, another jun yusho would make for a compelling case. I would be very surprised, if a 12-3 will not lead to a promotion. In case 1 or two Ozeki retire, even a sound 11-4 will be enough.
ikishima 0 Posted January 22, 2006 He will need at least 12-3. I don't see that there would be any rush to promote him with anything less
Asashosakari 20,225 Posted January 22, 2006 Barring injuries, Hakuho will be Ozeki after the next basho and Yokozuna by the end of 2007. Eeek, I'm having a deja vu... Anyway, I'm fairly sure that 11-4 next time will be enough...the idea that the standards for promotion become harder when there are more Ozeki is mostly a myth in my opinion. Nobody with 33+ all-sanyaku wins has been denied promotion in 50 years, after all.
the italian halibut 0 Posted January 22, 2006 my feeling after watching this hakuho will march straight to yokozuna before the year is out very happy for tochiazuma....very happy for ama (nss, he's my favorite guy), do not want to see him in sanyaku too quickly a bit sad for tamanoshima, but oh so impressed at his bravery waiting to see how asashoryu reacts to this one...you guys practically called it...great analysts here great forum! ;-)
Fujisan 533 Posted January 22, 2006 I'm not surprised at Tochiazuma winning the yusho because aside from Asashoryu I would have said he was the best bet but if he makes it 2 in a row at Haru and doesn't bottle it or drop out through injury-Then I will be shocked and pleased. ;-)
