code_number3 708 Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) Funny trivia: Hiro is NSK-certified Sumo Kenko Taisou instructor. That was explained on Grand Sumo Preview May 2020 (when there was no game due to corona) About Sumo Kenko Taisou https://www.sumo.or.jp/EnKyokai/information?id=2 Edited October 20, 2022 by code_number3
RabidJohn 1,837 Posted October 20, 2022 The thumbnail says it all, and Sazanami is enjoying himself way too much! Hiro is a nutcase for allowing it to happen, and if you're anything like me it'll make you cringe in the old-fashioned way, but great episode.

Asapedroryu 235 Posted October 28, 2022 Any reason why rikishi (except for Ichinojo) won't say anything in English apart from the now getting annoying "Sumo Prime Time" thing? Tamawashi was partially comunicating in English on his idiot abroad short clip 10 years ago. Today, nothing. They do know these videos are for a foreign audience. Few rikishi are confident in their English abilities and when Japanese is an option they'll always use that. Apart from the Americans, Canadians, English, and Osunaarashi, there aren't many (any?) rikishi whose English would have been better than their Japanese, and they can convey what they want to say much better in the latter. For something like Idiot Abroad the presenter didn't speak Japanese and it was like a Joey and Ichiban lipstick thing.
Kintamayama 45,445 Posted October 29, 2022 I wish to give my thoughts about this channel. There have been enough episodes already to form an opinion. Disclaimer : this is being written out of extreme jealousy and subjectivity. Grrr. This is pure gold. Only long term fans like myself can really and truly appreciate this fully. Of course newer fans can thoroughly enjoy this, but it’s a different kind of enjoyment. Hiro has the charisma to make even a mundane subject seem interesting. Really fun. The only small drawback I could find (and believe me, I was looking..) is that the translations are sometimes lacking, surprisingly. The Tamawashi episode was pure platinum. I liked that he didn’t even need to don a mawashi to take on Tamawashi. Damn.

Hiro’s favorite term on the live broadcasts is “he got beat”. This drives me up the wall.
Seiyashi 4,106 Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Hiro putting on a GoPro and getting nodowa'ed to hell must be the most unique bit of this vid. Now every fan knows what it's like to be in the ring facing Tamawashi. And of course being able to see Tamawashi's special training is fantastic. Bonus points for the toriteki trying not to grin too broadly when Hiro was doing his piece to camera after getting railroaded. Thank you very much, and more please! since_94 650 Posted October 31, 2022 I’m absolutely loving the episodes. Really hoping the January basho will be back to normal in terms of easy access to rikishi exiting the venue. Is there still a no approach / photos/ autographs policy at bashos now?
junsan 193 Posted October 31, 2022 Fun episode but wondering what exactly was the point of wearing a GoPro on his head.

Tamawashi has said in the past that he pushes the opponent's head back so that the opponent can't see him. The GoPro made that point very effectively.

Kashunowaka 300 Posted November 27, 2022 Sumo Prime Time managed to put Abi holding the Emperor's Cup as their thumbnail for today's video, which is quite poor YouTube manners. A lot of angered people got the result spoiled. Luckily I managed to watch the bouts without knowing the result beforehand.

Seiyashi 4,106 Posted November 27, 2022 I mean, even if they wanted a shot of someone holding the Emperor's Cup, at least censor the face somehow (blurs, a black oval with a question mark). Can't be too difficult when the Japanese are classically very assiduous about this kind of thing in consideration of the privacy of random passers-by, so it's not as if the tech is alien to them.
