Haidouzo 78 Posted March 17, 2019 A mixed day 8, with losses where I didn't want them. Still rolling in Bench, with a 6-2, along with a number of others I can't be bothered to count right now. Now tied for 11th in DST and ISP, to boot. And now in a 7-way tie for the jun-yusho in Quad. Even pushed out to a 5-3 in Toto. BUT Took my first outright (non-tiebreak) loss in SG for a frustrating 4-4, and slipped again in TTT for a four-way tie for 4th. (And missed in Odd again, even after the safest bet yet.) GANBARIMASU! Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) Panda overcame Seb to win his fifth straight and improve to 6-3. A powerful Owl beat Scott to stay well in the yusho race. Gary's fine comeback continues. Three straight now. Nice nine-pointer from Chisha today, making him 4-5. He needs those wins to avoid demotion. Stefan won again and is two wins away from a return to Makuuchi. Unko got back on the winning track. Jezz is 6-3 after a win today. Ronnie won strongly but he has work to do. And Steve marches on. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 18, 2019 Lost two important games today - Toto and TTT - so my fading Masters potential points fade even faster. The pre-basho disaster just keeps getting worse, but I'm not bitter. I gambled and lost. I thought Yutakayama would be healed by now, and I have no idea what's bothering Toyonoshima. They have screwed me big time though. SG at least is looking OK but I have some tough bouts coming up and I want to try to wrap up KK asap. Bench is a sick joke. 5-10 would be a major achievement with the muppets I have. 6-3 in the Baka Cup! Hurray! Almost nothing there in pre-basho. Juryo Game is possible if my idiots wake up for the last six days. Salarycap depends enormously on Takayasu and/or Goeido getting a jun yusho. Oracle is not too bad despite my awful overall pre-basho performace. A Mitakeumi 5-10 would greatly aid matters. GAMBARIMASU!
Haidouzo 78 Posted March 18, 2019 Another [gerund form of expletive] tiebreak loss in Bench--my third of the basho in Bench alone--for 6-3 and now one short of the yusho lead. (And on a perfect day, no less.) 67-65 in points, 8-6 in AADs, and 2 out of 5 tiebreaks for 4-5 in SG. Insane. Also slipped to 14th in DST. But still tied for 11th in ISP. Now in a five-way yusho tie in Quad. In a large tie for 10th in Toto, somehow. And in a four-way tie for the jun-yusho in TTT. In the pre-bashos, I have a big ol' day 7 yusho lead in Salarycap, I'm alone for the jun-yusho in POG (just one point behind the leader), I believe I'm currently at a tiebreak loss in a head-to-head yusho battle in Bingo, I'm in a four-way tie for 9th in NC, and I'm in a three-way tie for third in FS. Good times. GANBARIMASU GANBARIMASU

Ganzohnesushi 528 Posted March 18, 2019 After 9 days Haru'19 is still looking good. At least the dailies... Chain Gang becomes more and more thrilling as Norizo and me had put our money on the same Rikishi today. As I have by far the better Tie Break I wished Ikioi had won vs. Aoiyama but there was no chance, i.e. we move forward to Day 10... At least 12 SB Masters points are already in the bag. Excellent 6-3's in Toto, S4, and Bench Sumo give hope to select a few more points in the one or the other game. 7-2 in TTT looks even better, despite a bloody loss today. Currently ranked #10 in DST and #15 in Odd also looks promising. Only flop in the dailies is ISP where my current 4-5 is far below average. Pre-Basho games suffer big from Ikoi's limping perfomance. Nevertheless I see good chances for a couple of SB Masters points in Juryo Game which is is not affected by Ikioi and I have some hope for a few points in Oracle. Despite predicting 9 wins for Mitakeumi the overall score doesn't look that bad and being ranked #17 after 9 days raises some hopes. Perhaps I can also enter Top 10 in SalaryCap but I don't expect any further points in the pre-basho games. All in all I might well finish with 40+ points but it could also easily melt down to some twentysomething if the last days went South. Ganzohnesushi

Am I missing something? we at dst have a scale to meassure the quality of the picks. the scalee goes from 0 -100 the equality of the picks for all the bouts is the key. giving all rikishi 33 picks (66 players) will give you 100. on the other side, getting 66-0 in every bout will give the daily gyoji a zero that said there are different results for the sidegame called "bng" (basho no goyji) ranging from 37 to 85 already this basho. often there is this one bout that destroys a really big score. and today it might be the one of your sg-nr.1-pick. aditionally there is the nice pattern of the last 6 bouts, when usually one has to guess lower maegashira as the winners usually are more difficult to determine. that said, be happy to have an easy pick for tomorrow add: the gyoji's score on day 10 is 54,73 which is rank 5/10at the moment. without the bout you mentioned it would be 87,4 which is VERY good Edited March 19, 2019 by Gernobono

Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 19, 2019 I looked at the torikumi last night and groaned as I could immediately see it was the kind of day that my system rarely handles. My filtering system means I am not able to pick idiots like Chiyoshoma or Kagayaki even when they're against reasonably poor opponents, and there were few other viable options, so I had to go for riskier picks of lads who had tougher bouts. And...as I expected...I got slaughtered in every single game. I won't be changing anything though...in the long run, such a filter generally works. But today was a horror show. And it was not only the dailies. The pre-basho scene went even further south and this basho is an almost complete write-off. I'll be lucky to get ten points. Odd Sumo, Salarycap and Norizo are my only slight hopes. Strong finishes in SG, TTT and Toto may yield some small change. Elsewhere it is total carnage, with most of my pre-basho lads injured or fighting like morons, while the orthodox picks are mostly flying. My worst gaming basho for about five years. I am, however, enjoying the sumo. Been the best basho for a while. Now 6-4 in the Baka Cup. GAMBARIMASU!

Andonishiki 170 Posted March 19, 2019 it was day 10 in sumogame... day 775 of my career. never ever had I beaten a yokozuna before in my favorite game. - faced one only once, got badly beaten 4-5, back in Aki'17, when Kise was still limping - but today the big Panda wasn't himself. we had only 6 identical picks. i had rather expected at least 8. but this seems to be the big difference between a 'system' and a 'bauchgefuehl' (stomach ache or gut insticts) type of sumogamer he came up with the worst performance of all 66 sekitori (Makuuchi AND Juryo, that is) wow so there it is... for the very first time a yokozuna in the clay in front of me. beaten by little ando. I'll get very BERRI drunk tonight for sure. 9-1 record, Ozeki tomorrow, Norizo (also 9-1) someday later. this is gonna be LOTS of fun. Sorry Panda, I'm sure you'll come back strong ! the only Wermutstropfen (flies in the ointment ) is the painful fact that there's no kinboshi for beating a yok, if you're not a maegashira... well - still something to aim for yaaaabbbbadaaabbbbadoooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted March 19, 2019 Haha...I am glad someone is happy. You are having a good tournament and setting up a nice ozeki run. Keep it going. Not sure how many times there have been back-to-back Makuuchi yusho either. That would perhaps be unprecedented. Yeah, I picked a fine day to have a nightmare. If we had met every day this basho (like the Baka Cup arrangement I have with Haidouzo), I would have been 7-2 up against you coming into day ten. So I definitely got you on the wrong day!! You will probably get matched up with Norizo on day 14 or 15. You also have to get past Yamashiro and Kogaratsu. Best of luck! And enjoy the beers! ;)

Fantastic. I had no idea. And, to be clear, I really didn't mean it as a criticism. There's certainly an argument to be made that what appears to be a lopsided bout can make the underdog appealing for those trying to desperately jump up the rankings. I seriously just remembered in the past learning after the fact that one of the six bouts featured one day had an otherwise-favored rikishi who appeared to have been slightly injured the day before (making it a much more even bout, or at least a bout full of doubt--until the rikishi withdrew that day). So I really was asking if something happened to Hakuho that I wasn't aware of. As always, my endless thanks to all who make the games happen.
