[Takayasu's] injury is somewhat vaguely reported as a partial muscle tear, though that's from what Tagonoura told the press this morning; the official diagnosis in the kyujo notice may end up more detailed than that.

Partial tear of the left deltoid muscle, 3 weeks treatment.

Kise's kyujo is officially due to his left pectoralis major again, with a one-month timeframe.

I ought to dig back through his recent kyujo announcements and sum up the various time frames for recovery. See if we've reached "intai" yet.

Wow, then it's Makushita for sure. Unless he comes back and somehow gets 4 or 5 wins. Sad. :'-(

If he retires now, they can do a joint intai-zumo for him and Harumafuji in September... (Eh?)

It's official:

East Juryo #8
Terunofuji
(Isegahama Beya)
has withdrawn the 4th Day of the May Tournament.

This is very sad for Terunofuji. Not that long ago I thought he was heading for the top.

Needs to get that diabetes under control, maybe sumo isn't a suitable career for him now.

Lose weight, and get healthy.  He is young enough to look at other options.

The kyujo certificate for Terunofuji is for "damage of the left outer meniscus. Kyujo for the Natsu-basho is required as of this day", but he may reenter - Isegahama-oyakata: "Even with painkillers, the pain is winning. If this situation improves, wanting to reenter is in his feelings." If not he'd drop to makushita - which no ex-ozeki since the start of  Showa has: he is the 4th ozeki to have dropped till juryo. The oyakata about what then: "We can't think about that until it happens."

Also no makuuchi yusho winner has ever dropped to makushita.

Jk16e TERASAWA

I was wondering if something was up with him after he lost in one-sided fashion on Day 3. Even accounting for the fact that his opponent Fukazawa is one of the more talented rikishi down there - accomplished college guy vs okay high school guy shouldn't be looking the way it did.

I’ve never found myself able to like Terunofuji all that much, but it’s never nice seeing a guy decline as he has, and in such quick time as well. Crazy to think that last May he was en route to a second consecutive jun-yusho and on a possible tsuna run, yet this May is on the brink of intai or toriteki duties after winning just eight bouts in a year.

Press reporting that Endo is kyujo from Day 7, giving Tochinoshin a free win. :-(

Day 7

Withdrawn: Sd52w HIENRIKI

And another sad face moment here - Hienriki had never previously missed a bout in his 20-year career until yesterday's fusenpai, chalking up 835 consecutive bouts.

Wow, I wonder if this is only a 1 or 2 day thing or he's out for the duration.

He did look quite winded after the Day 5 win over Ichinojo, I wonder if he aggravated an injury then. Shame as it happens when he's made a career resurgence and finally broke into the sanyaku. Hoping he can return to form soon.

Sad for Endo but it gets Tochinoshin that bit closer to his double-digits and keeps him in the lead for the yusho race. Every cloud.
