Have a go at a Haiku!

Recommended Posts

Ha, ha! I'd never seen this thread. Here's one I wrote a few years ago. I wonder if anyone grasps it here on sumo forum...

Behemoths charging,

Dancing, each struggles to lead.

Only one remains.

Haru basho starts

Hattorizakura coughs

His aite gives up

Now it’s Day Seven

He gets his kachikoshi

Still hasn’t been touched

How has this happened?

A cough, a sneeze, sweaty brow...

Each day new symptoms

Test him!, they all cry

But all come back negative

Guile trumps Sumo skill!

I want an Endo yusho

With no fans present

‘Twas an easy fix

I agree wholeheartedly

Form is important

Gold is so last year,

No food but lots of bog-roll.

The new currency.

Not Covid-Nineteen; he's just

Too hot to handle!

I wish i had thought,

About what truly matters,

When the sun still shone.

Terutsuyoshi

Enhou, Mainoumi

Midorifuji

All of them smaller

Than the average sumo

But crafty as hell

Haikus are easy

But Japan's national sport?

Now that's a workout

Is this real life?

Is this just a fantasy?

No sumo for months!

Extra points for semi-subtle Queen reference.  But 4-7-5 doesn't cut it in Premier League Haiku.

Ah, so I guess "real" has 1 syllable instead of 2 then? Shouldn't have omitted the "the" in the original first line...

As they usually say, next time I shall gambarize! :-)

Next year they'll return,

Petals that blossomed and fell,

But our spring comes once.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Footprints in the sand,

Washed away by time's grey tide,

Were there nonetheless.

vicarious aggression,

so we hurt others
