Would be great to see everyone healthy for a change.

Unfortunately, professional sumo is an activity where virtually no one is ever really "healthy". I'm sure that even the most healthy sounding rikishi around has some sort of aches, pains, or other kinds of infirmity. When bodies of extremely large and strong people are constantly banging together, that's a fact of life.

I'm reminded of the story about an American college football coach who before the first game of the season asked his players how they were feeling. Everyone said they were feeling fine. The coach said he was pleased that they were. He then added, "Enjoy your present health. All of you are going to feel a lot worse by the time the last game is over". Such is the fate of participtants in contact sports. :-|

Jk23e HARIMANADA

Left eye detached retina, it's being said on 2ch; not sure about the original source of that, so take with a grain of salt.

Reported in this Zakzak article from last basho which I completely missed. He was hoping to be back for this one but obviously is not ready yet.

Shikihide-beya reports that Bandaisan retired for personal reasons.

Kaikshinho was one of the alleged suspects in a theft reported here. He's gone from Tomozuna's website so I doubt we'll be seeing him again.

Anyone know what happened to Nakazono? I looked but couldn't find much.

Nakazono tweeted of a knee injury/meniscus tear several days before the start of Nagoya.  June 30th he seemed unsure of his participation for the basho.

Tsushimanada lost his first bout by default after getting on the wrong train which was heading in the opposite direction (probably he confused Shiyakusho station with Shiyakusho-mae station). As it was an express he was unable to disembark along the way, and although he did eventually make it to the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, he was a couple of bouts too late, giving Ryusei the free win.

Having learned his lesson, today he set off from Sakaigawa-beya's lodgings half an hour earlier than before and arrived in plenty of time for his bout against Higoarashi, which he lost.

In other news, Urutora began his latest comeback in maezumo today after a four-basho absence, a good effort but losing to Naruto-beya's Bulgarian newcomer Torakio (虎来欧).

Press are reporting that Yokozuna Kakuryu is kyujo from Day 4. He was seen favouring his right leg after losing to Hokutofuji.

Yoshikaze will get the free win to remain undefeated.

This means M3w Endo (2-1) joins the joi. I can't wait.

Endo, not Ura.

Make that "should bring" Endo ....  Strangely, for Day5, M4e Ura gets joi M2e Tochinoshin while M3w Endo gets M6e Ichinojo. :-S

Apology to Fukurou for dragging this a little off topic.

Oh man.... He had done so well in the last two tournaments. If someone can find a reason for the withdrawal will you please post it here?

According to the heya blog he suffered an ankle injury after falling from the dohyo in his first bout.

Thank you for the information Yubinhaad!

I hope he will let it completely heal but I have a feeling he will try and return later in the tournament... :-(

Asahisho was lying in pain on and below the dohyo for quite a while till he was lifted into the wheelchair - NHK mentioned that he injured his left ankle rater than the knee like it looked on the replay - anything else than kyujo would surprise me.

If this carries on there might not be much of a joi left for Ura to fight - Nikkan reports that Terunofuji is out from Day 6, which would give Shodai a much-needed free win.

EDIT: Nikkan just doubled down and says Kisenosato is out as well. That would give Kotoshogiku the freebie.
