  2. 2. What will be Takakeisho (formerly Sato)'s highest rank on the banzuke in the seven bashos between January 2017 and January 2018 (inclusive)?

  3. 3. What will be Takakeisho (formerly Sato)'s longest winning streak in 2017? (He starts on six, as he won his last six Juryo bouts of November 2016) - not including any yusho play-off ;-)

Takakeisho (formerly Sato) is currently the youngest sekitori.  He is due to make his Makunouchi debut in January 2017.  Currently he is 173 cm in height, which along with Ura and Ishiura would appear to be the shortest rikishi in the paid ranks.  How will he do in Makunouchi in 2017?

Please put your answers into the comments below.

I bet he'll get schooled this basho, then come back. He will learn some new yricks from the old dogs. We'll see how he holds up.

He won't go anywhere for the 1st half, 2017.     I think M2 will be his career peak and it may happen in 2nd half 2017.

PS: my wife usually bets against my predictions in anything I do.  She wins most of those.   So whatever I predict in these polls, expect the opposite.  ;-)

M6. 9 wins. I think he'll pull 8 wins out in January, but have double-digit losses in March. He shows promise, but I don't think he'll crack the joi-jin this year. Bottom of maegashira most of the year.

First MK in May

Highest rank - M6W

Winning streak - 6 (he will lose on day 1 of January - and will not string another 6 wins for the remainder of the year.)

First MK rightaway in january, highest rank : M1 due to one nice non-joijin kachi-koshi, and 7 for his winning streak (I expect him to loose on Hatsu day 2)

He'll run up seven in a row next week to push his streak to 13, after which there will be no streaks of note.  He'll have his first MK in May, but recover to get as high as an over-ranked M2E.

Takakeisho had a good year, all things considered....

Jan - M12E (7-8)
Mar - M13W (11-4)
May - M7W (11-4)
Jul - M1W (5-10)
Sep - M5W (9-6)
Nov - M1W (11-4)

However, his first basho did end in a small MK - as guessed by half of us - sesom, robnplunder, Ryoshishokunin, Terao, Rhyen, Morty, WAKATAKE, chishafuwaku, Tenshinhan and Nantonoyama.

His highest rank to date will be on the January 2018.  With his record, he might expect to be promoted to Sekiwake (as predicted by I am the Yokozuna), but looking at the results on the November banzuke, he will more likely be ranked at komusubi (predicted by Unkonoyama and Sumozumo).

He lost on the first day of the January basho, stopping his winning streak at 6.  He managed another winning streak of 6 (inclusing a fusensho win at the start - does that properly count?) from March, day 11 until May, day 1.  A winning streak of six predicted by Jejima, Morty and chishafuwaku.

Okay, only chishafuwaku and Morty have guessed correctly for two of the questions, so the closest to predicting Takakeisho's highest rank canclaim the yusho....

chishafuwaku opted for......M7
Morty selected......M7

Hmmmm.....  (Neither are particularly close.)

Let's check the comments below the poll....

chishafuwaku made a comment, Morty didn't.  So on the very flimsiest of tie-breakers, I narrowly award the Yusho to chishafuwaku (Yushowinner...), with Morty(Secondprize...) collecting the Jun-Yusho.
