The Wall came up big this basho in a way that hasn't been seen in a long time. Only 5 of our existing rikishi managed to pass and each one only by a single win. 2/3rds of the sekitori rikishi hit the wall and Yutakayama crashed big time earning an early trip to Juryo in the process. Asanoyama just passed, but that was the story for most Juryo rikishi this basho. Kizaki and Takemasa both passed the wall by the skin of their teeth. Neither of them are going to go up enough to seriously factor into any promotion race bar a surprise yusho. Tsushimanada doubled his career loss count this basho as his 'Ura-lite' approach to sumo finally caught up to him in mid-Makushita. This basho's experience I think mirrors what a lot of people imagined could've happened to Ura himself when he reached upper Makushita. Midorifuji is another Wall member coming up with a 4-3 and his size disadvantage is already becoming in apparent in his bouts at the bottom of Makushita. He's very clearly giving it his all in the matches and it could have been easily 2-5 or 5-2 record. A loss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhF2P3RLaFs Within the new members we have the two sandanme entrants of last basho Murata and Wakatakakage. Both are from current powerhouse Toyo University and they met to decide the Sandanme yusho in ketteisen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfxNYIY4CHs Wakatakakage won with authority in that match. He has two brothers who have had some success in upper Makushita but haven't really been poised to breakthrough to Juryo. Father and grandfather experience in sumo rounds out the pedigree. Perhaps he can pull his brothers up along with him? Ichiyamamoto is the top of the new members who passed through Jonokuchi and gave up a desk job in some government office to join through the new age limit. Right now he looks fine but has some work to do to be able to pass through Makushita. His only loss so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp2sagLjltI Ryuko has had some success in primary school amasumo, but like Ichiyamamoto seems to need to work on core strength a bit. However he has the advantage of being 5 years younger. Here is the Ryuko-Ichiyamamoto matchup from Haru - it is quite long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOXqJlLWny4

    Achew! (Gezundheit) 2017 GTB invitation

I spent a whole day this time drafting new numbers tables based on historical basho and I ended up 7th! After being mired in the second half of the results for a whole year this is a good feeling. We got the same result, and I also had Sato in M11e, I wonder how close our entries were.

With double digit kachikoshi though he stayed on longer than most, however couldn't follow Onosho into Juryo who had a similar chain of results. Kotokamatani also hit the wall in spectacular fashion starting 1-4, so most of his wins were against others who were struggling. He'll get to try again next basho from Makushita. Sakamoto (now Daiamami) once again barely just reached a 4-3 kachikoshi and with that finally enters sekitori-hood after a somewhat more dramatic than he'd like climb from a Ms15TD start. With comfortable kachikoshi from Hokutofuji and Oyanagi we'll have 3 sekitori for next basho. With the other top guys hitting the wall, all 3 will be in the top 3 positions. Consequently this leaves upper makushita fairly empty for the first time in a while. Ishibashi who scored 5-2 from Ms14e will be nearby. Kizaki, after his 7-0 yusho in Sandanme last time, found it somewhat difficult in Makushita but managed to avoid the wall - for now. As mentioned before, Ikegawa leaves the wall after going kyujo with a 0.952 win percentage, and he'll be in the hunt for Sandanme yusho again in January. Hakkaku stablemate Satoyama makekochi'd as well, finding Sandanme a bit too tough. Way down in Jonidan Sugano also leaves us as soon as he joined, and betwen Kotokamatani, Satoyama, and Sugano we no longer have a high school aged rikishi on the wall. Asahiryu in his 3rd basho finally put together a spotless record but came up short in the playoff against returning-from-injury ex-Komusubi Jokoryu. However, Asahiryu represented himself well, and has a lot of room to put on some weight, so let's see what he can do in Makushita. Our only new join for the new year is Umeno, a collegiate rikishi in Sakaigawa-beya.

    What happened with Homarenishiki?

This is low grade revisionist garbage. Why do people who know nothing about this situation continue to post fiction as if it's reality? Can this thread be closed until additional information is publicly released?

Yes, you're right. From 1968 they changed Juryo from 18 ranks to 13 until 2003. So for completeness sake I've given that. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&rowcount=2&form1_rank=J11e&form1_wins=6&form1_losses=9&form1_year=1968-2002
