At the start of last year, Mitakeumi was an exciting new thing...
He had three double-digit KKs, and two double-digit MKs  (plus a 9-6) in 2016, so it was very much a year of blowing 'hot-and-cold' for him.

How about 2017?  Please include your predictions in the comments below.

Sorry, but question 2 is no multiple choice :-|

I concur.  We might be allowed to vote for more than one, but it doesn't appear as though we are actually capable of doing so.

Corrected now!

Apologies to the players (robnplunder, Ryoshishokunin, inhashi and sesom) who have already voted.  Is there any way for mods to allow them to vote again for Q2?

S1E

As I think he'll spend the year in the joi-jin / lower sanyaku, he will have (barring kyujos/intais) six opportunities with each of the upper sanyaku....  So, I think he will manage to defeat all of them at least once.

If my predictions are correct, he won't face too many lower ranked rikishi this year....  but he might lose to an M6.....

S1W, wins against all except Kisenosato and Goeido, M9.

He'll stumble out of the jo'i-jin at some point, but come back easily enough.

So this was how 2017 looked for Mitakeumi....

Jan - M1W (11-4)
Mar - K1E (9-6)
May - K1E (8-7)
Jul - S1W (9-6)
Sep - S1E (8-7)
Nov - S1E (9-6)

So, overall, a very good year, with six kachikoshis, all against the very top of the banzuke!

His highest rank (more than once) was S1E.  This was correctly guessed by:- robnplunder, sesom, I am the Yokozuna, Rocks, Morty, Tenshinhan, RabidJohn, Jejima and Nantonoyama.

Which of the top-rankers on the January 2017 banzuke did Mitakeumi defeat on the dohyo, at some stage during the year?

He deated all of them - with one exception!

Kakuryu (he defeated in Jan and May)
Harumafuji (also defeated in Jan and May)
Hakuho (defeated in July - but also got a fusensho win in Mar)
Kisenosato (also defeated in July)
Goeido (defeated in Jan and Nov)
Kotoshogiku (defeated in Jan, May, July, Sep and Nov!)

Which leaves just Terunofuji....  Mitakeumi never defeated him on the dohyo, although he did get a fusensho win over him in November!

Quite a few players (Benihana, Rocks, Morty, RabidJohn and Jejima, ) predicted that he would defeat every one of them - which is not too far off.

However, I think 'I am the Yokozuna' did better than them, as he predicted that Mitakeumi would defeat 5 of the tpop rankers, but not Terunofuji, not Kisenosato.  So one wrong again, but in a more impressive way.

Rather amazingly, one player got it exactly correct!  (He predicted all of the top-rankers to be beaten, except Terunofuji).  Step forward James Jett! (Iamnotworthy...)

The lowest rank that Mitakeumi faced throughout the year was M10W - which he faced twice.  In March, Mitakeumi DEFEATED M10W Tochiozan on day 15.  However, back in January, he LOST to M10W Sokokurai on day 13!  So the lowest rank that he lost to was M10W.

M10 was a popular pick - chosen by robnplunder, MumboJumbo, unkonoyama, Sumozumo, Morty and SumpaX.

So, who wins the yusho?  I think it goes to Morty (Yushowinner...), who only got one thing wrong (the loss to Terunofuji).  However, I am giving the Jun-Yusho to James Jett for his amazing answer to Question 2, and for being very close (S1W and M9) for the other two questions.
