shimodahito 336 Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) GROUP E, ROUND 3, DAY 12 (lineup comments and results) Refyoji says: In this round ACHIYAMA & CHIJANOFUJI, both with 3 points, will face each other with the winner advancing. Both have France, Nigeria, and Uruguay on their squads but placed in different positions. Key World Cup matches that affect both teams are BRA vs CMR, HON vs SUI, ECU vs FRA, ALG vs RUS, and most important ARG vs NGR (facing each other on the pitch and at #2 picks). Achiyama says: Regards. Chijanofuji says: Another tough round with at least 5 matches being hard to call. And after that heartbreaking loss to Furanohana it's all or nothing to progress to round 2! But when the going gets tough, the tough just bluff! Or was that a different saying? Oh well... Good luck to my honorable opponent Achiyama! Refyoji says: Here are the line-ups with a failed attempt to cut/past the flags. I think it would involve too many steps. Key World Cup matches that affect both teams are BRA vs CMR, ITA vs URU, ECU vs FRA; and CHI vs NED are both #4 picks on the pitch. Jejima 1,498 Posted June 24, 2014 Option #2, I reckon, Asasho. I think most of us will be playing to the end and doing our best. Now, the only thing I have to play for is a decent position on your chart! :(Well, I'm not proposing to overthrow Jezz's plan for the main competition; the active players will get cut after the Last 16 round, so in the end only 10 players will be competing for the MCP title, too. I'm just wondering if players prefer the easier-to-follow scoring, or the more meaningful scoring. I am now thinking we should keep going all the way, with no one getting knocked out at any stage, as we had in the very first Bench World Cup. We only have one drone at present, and I am sure there were already a few more previously. We do have drone rules too.

Yeah, it is a great game and I think almost everyone would enjoy trying to finish as high as possible whatever. Why not just do a mirror of the knockout draw (for example: 3rd place Group A vs 4th place Group B) and then the winner of that goes on to try to finish as high as possible. Also, the loser of that will fight the loser of other such matches. That way we can get a full final results table - 1st to 32nd. Or is that dumb?

That is how it works :-) Everyone was going to stay on until at least the round of 16 (when 3rd plays 4th), but then drop out with losses. This was due to the previous Bench World Cup when we had a lot of drones, starting from the group stages - and so 'losers' mostly, which made some of the games in the 'losing half' of the draw to be between drones, which isn't much fun for anyone. This time around, there seems to be better camaraderie - and only one drone (knowing chabonowaka over the years, I think he would be playing, if he could, so I am concerned about his long absence), so I think players would be happy to keep playing - even if it is only for '30th' place.

Nekonishiki Banji 404 Posted June 24, 2014 Group B Round 3 update Not much surprise in real results on Day 1. KikoCookie faithfully put her representative team Spain to the first slot again, and this time Spain didn't disappoint her. KikoCookie scored her first goal. Probably chishafuwaku will get one today, too? Since both chisafuwaku and Fujiko put the same teams to the same slots, counting of results will begin in Slot 3. ScreechingOwl and KikoCookie both have Switzerland in their Slot 3. Fujiko cheers strongly for England soon, while KikoCookie for Italy. The later two bouts will be important, too, all the four players have Greece, but Japan, Ivory Coast and Colombia can be found in the line-ups, too. Coming back tomorrow with the updates. Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted June 25, 2014 Group G Latest: Our first match remains interesting despite Kuroimori's excellent start. Kuroimori has Nigeria at 3, and if they lose to Argentina (very possible), his chain will be broken. However, as Kamogawa's chain is definitely broken at 4, it may not matter and will probably come down to the very daring Ghana pick at 2, who will need to beat Portugal to avoid a broken chain. Anything could happen here, but upsets will definitely be required. Kuroimori: 1. Brazil2. Colombia3. Nigeria ©4. Mexico5. Ecuador6. Portugal ®7. Russia8. Italy9. Costa Rica10. Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted June 25, 2014 Group C Round 3 Maguroyama 0 0 shimodahito Ivory Coast © BREAK Wed Argentina Argentina Wed Thu Belgium Portugal Thu Wed Switzerland Bosnia Wed Thu Portugal Japan ® L W Colombia ® Belgium Thu L Croatia Chile L W Greece Iran Wed Thu Ghana © Australia L D Costa Rica USA Thu Thu South Korea COMMENTSMaguroyama: I feel I'm in a position to gamble a bit and so it's time for the Elephants to step up their game. In this WC of shockers you can't really trust anyone, but "normally" Argentina and Portugal should be stronger than their African opponents. Japan plays Colombia who are ensured of advancement and thus may slack off a bit. But what do I know...shimodahito: my high M pick Greece roster plays league in Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey, England, Scotland. This round faith pick: Switzerland. This round no-faith pick: none. Maguroyama is my last opponent. Our #1, #2, #3 (ARG-BEL-POR) teams are the same so the mid line-ups will decide. I look forward to the match.Refioji Pregame: Maguroyama is gambling big with Ivory Coast who need only need a draw - seems reasonable. But having possibly demotivated Portugal and Bosnia so high is a real risk - and he has Belgium quite low, maybe fearing a B-team? Shimodahito's lineup is comparatively risk-free.Refioji MbM: Mon: That's quite a slow start with a lowly losses. Shimodahito has only one loss but higher placed. Tue: The first half ends in big drama just copying real life as Greece's stunning late winner ensures the chain break for Maguroyama in the top slot. He can only hope for a 0:0 draw but a LOT must happen even for that Jejima 0 0 Pandaazuma Germany Thu Wed Argentina Switzerland Wed Thu Belgium England © (GOAL) (BREAK) Ivory Coast ® France Wed W Netherlands Ivory Coast L D England Bosnia Wed Thu Algeria Colombia W Wed Ecuador Greece ® W L Japan © Algeria Thu Thu South Korea South Korea Thu Wed Nigeria COMMENTSJejima: What a nightmare of a World Cup... I actually expect Germany to draw with the USA (would benefit both sides), but I don't imagine they would lose, so they can have top slot. At number 3, England really need to pull off at least a draw to give me a chance in this match. Pandaazuma: While my ® team is likely to beat Jejima's, he has six likely winners in his line-up to my three, meaning I'm going to need luck big time here. My only option is to go for it and put my ® team a little lower than I would normally in the hope of breaking my opponent's chain against one of his less-likely-to-win teams...and hope that my top lads win and keep my chain intact. Good luck, Jezz!Refioji Pregame: Jejima is lucky this time - he can't break his chain again with England © in a L-L scenario as Pandaazuma helped him out by placing his ® team in the sme slot. Pandaazuma is seing a lot of winners in Jejima's squad but we will know only after the round is over, no?Refioji MbM: Mon: This bout starts slow too with Jejima playing quite passively. ;-) Tue: Jejima picks up the pace considerably (even with the surprisingly low placing of winning Colombia) and thanks to the ignominous Ivory Coast his © team placement is a full success for a change as his draw ensures a goal plus chain break in slot 3 if the bouts goes this far. Achiyama 1,272 Posted June 26, 2014 Group "A" Round 3 - Update #3: Bout #1: Jakusotsu vs. Andonishiki: Andonishiki is the winner. Still to be decided how many goals he will score. It's still 1:0. Bout #2: Fujiyama vs. Chocshoporyu We have a winner. Fujiyama defeats Chocshoporyu 2:1, but won't qualify for the Round of 16. It will be decided between Jokusotsu and Chocshoporyu. They are tied for now. If Jokusotsu loses only 0:1 tiebreakers will be needed. I have to look at them. If Ando scores more than 2 goals, than Chocshy will advance. (Pulling hair...) A loss by France would have broken my chain at the very top and handed the victory to my honorable opponent Achiyama by 1-0... Luckily (for me) that didn't come to pass and I got the 2-1 win. (Clapping wildly...) Now I can relax on the final day of the real WC's Round 1 and watch today's matches without having to root for any of my picks or against any of my opponent's picks! Leaving the BSWC Dohyo for the day.... (Bow...) Edited June 26, 2014 by Chijanofuji
