Group B Round 1 update

Three players have their chain broken, only ScreechingOwl has a chance to collect some more goals to his existing 2.

The other goal scorer is chishafuwaku whose chain is broken in Slot 4, but he could score a goal in Slot 1.

Ladies had bad luck in this round, maybe it will be better in the second one, since they will play each against the other.

I have the feeling that Fujiko will cheer for Germany today (well, I wouldn't give a penny for Algeria's win, so 2 more goals for ScreechingOwl can be expected).

(I'd like to ask the experts to check if I counted the results well or there is something wrong left.)

You are absolutely right, Neko.

My colored Tables show that although KikoCookie lost on her first slot with her ® team Spain, Chishafuwaku wins only 1:0.

As for ScreechingOwl he is leading 2:0 and there is a possibility to get as many as 4 goals (total) depending on Belgium's and Russia's games.

If you are interested, I can send you the colored Tables I am talking about (like those I report for group "A").

Thanks, Achiyama. Yes, I'm interested. This coloring what I do is still okay for me, though, I was rather confused of those many score-counting tables Jezz posted. But I think I already understand them. (Sigh...)

Russia doesn't matter.

You are right Asashosakari,

It doesn't affect the score at all. It can only determine whether Screechy's line will be broken at slot #6 or slot #7 without any effect on the score.

If Belgium wins or draws the score will be 4:0, if Belgiun loses the score will be 2:0.

Group "A" update:

Chocshoporyu wins over Jakusotsu 2:0. If Russia wins tomorrow - it will be 3:0. If Russia draws or loses - it will stay 2:0.

The second bout is far from being decided. The loss of Ghana to USA resulted in both chains to stay unbroken. Andonishiki either will win, or the worst there will be a draw.

What are the options:

1.) If Russia wins - Fujiyama's line will be broken. Andonishiki will be the winner - either 2:0 if South Korea draws or loses, or 3:0 if South Korea wins.

2.) If Russia draws - same situation as (1.) happens.

3.) If Russia loses - Andonishiki's line will be broken. Score will be 1:0 for Andonishiki, but Fujiyama's line will be unbroken.

4.) If (3.) happens and South Korea wins - Andonishiki will be 1:0 winner.

5.) If (3.) happens and South Korea draws or loses - Fujiyama scores a goal. Score will be a draw 1:1. On the next slot #8 the Netherlands' win for Andonishiki and the Cameroon' ® loss for Fujiyama breaks Fujiyama's line and the final score will be 1:1 DRAW.

Hope I am right with my calculations.

Here are the Tables after day 5 - after 14 games completed and 2 games left for Tuesday.

good day all,

A double check of the results will be appreciated.

GROUP E, ROUND 1, DAY 5 results.

..........CHABONOWAKA.........................CHIJANOFUJI..........

BRA.....República Federativa do Brasil...1...República Argentina.......................ARG

Day 1: BRA gives Chabonowaka a win in his top slot and praise for the officiating.

Day 4: ARG = 3 for 3 winning picks for Chijanofuji and he celebrates with an Argentinean craft -- Antares Imperial Stout.

RESULTS: Both picks win, neither chain broken: Chabonowaka 0 - 0 Chijanofuji. (Day 4)

URU.....República Oriental del Uruguay...2...République française......................FRA

Day 3: Chabonowaka's confidence slips.

Day 4: FRA gives Chijanofuji his 2nd win of the day and he reaches for a French craft -- Etienne Dupont Organic Cidre Bouché Brut de Normandie.

RESULTS: Chabonowaka pick loses, chain broken. Chijanofuji pick wins, continues: Chabonowaka 0 - 1 Chijanofuji. (Day 4)

MEX...........Estados Unidos Mexicanos...3...República Oriental del Uruguay............URU

Day 2: MEX's win has Chabonowaka feeling confident.

Day 3: The URU loss has Chijanofuji smiling because he put them at #3, while his opponent put them at #2. But if the match reaches the #3 picks, Chabonowaka would win so he pours a fine Mexican craft -- Minerva Imperial Tequila Ale.

RESULTS: Chabonowaka pick wins. Chijanofuji pick loses, chain broken: Chabonowaka 0 - 1 Chijanofuji. GAME OVER. (Day 4)

ECU............República del Ecuador ®...4...® Confoederatio Helvetica.................SUI

Day 4: The ECU-SUI match on the pitch replicates the line-up head-to-head. Chijanofuji pours a Swiss craft -- Bier Factory Rapperswil XXA Xtra Bitter.

ITA................Repubblica italiana...5...Federal Republic of Nigeria...............NGR

Day 3: Good news for Chabonowaka, but only if his chain isn't broken by his #2 pick.

Day 5: Chijanofuji is still celebrating and missed NGR's draw.

USA...........United States of America...6...Nederland.................................NED

Day 2: Chijanofuji gets a win on his line-up, but not high enough to celebrate.

Day 5: Chabonowaka's USA win gives him a #5 through #8 win streak -- wrong place in the line-up.

SUI............Confoederatio Helvetica...7...الجمهورية الجزائرية الديمقراطية الشعبية....ALG

Day 4: The SUI win is too low in the line-up for Chabonowaka to celebrate.

NED........................Nederland ©...8...République du Cameroun....................CMR

Day 2: A NED win and CMR loss has Chabanowaka pouring a Dutch craft -- Rooie Dop Double Oatmeal Stout Bourbon Barrel.

IRI............جمهوری اسلامی ایران..-..x...9...© Republika Hrvatska......................CRO

Day 1: Chijanofuji curses the bad calls during the match but his CRO pick may have been placed too low in the line-up to make a difference.

Day 5: Chabonowaka is working on the next round line-ups and missed IRI's draw.

KOR............................대한민국...10...Босна и Херцеговина.......................BIH

Day 4: Chijanofuji celebrates the BIH loss because ARG was his #1 pick.

Chijanofuji wins as reported Day 4.

============================================================================================================

..........ACHIYAMA..............................FURANOHANA..........

FRA...............République française...1...República Federativa do Brasil.............BRA

Day 1: BRA gives Furanohana a win in the top slot and placed higher than opponent -- worth a Brazilian craft -- Colorado Vixnu Imperial IPA.

Day 4: FRA equalizes the #1 picks but Achiyama refrains from celebrating as his #5 pick, Nigeria, must lose.

RESULTS: Both picks win, neither chain broken: Achiyama 0 - 0 Furanohana. (Day 4)

BRA...República Federativa do Brasil ©...2...República de Chile.........................CHI

Day 1: Achiyama is OK with BRA win, but a loss and FRA win could have given him the match.

Day 2: CHI gives Furanohana even more confidence -- pours a Chilean craft -- Quimera Imperial Stout, and hopes for a FRA loss.

RESULTS: Achiyama © pick wins, continues. Furanohana pick wins, continues: Achiyama 0 - 0 Furanohana. (Day 4)

URU.....República Oriental del Uruguay...3...Federal Republic of Nigeria................NGR

Day 3: The first red in a top 3 pick is not good news for Achiyama.

Day 5: The first draw -- and both players have NGR in their line-ups! It's time to check Jejima's charts to figure out broken chains.

RESULTS: Achiyama pick loses, chain broken. Furanohana pick draws, continues: Achiyama 0 - 0 Furanohana. (Day 5)

COL..............República de Colombia...4...® République française.....................FRA

Day 3: Achiyama wishing he would have switched his #3 and #4 pick.

Day 4: FRA equalizes the #4 picks but Furanohana refrains from celebrating as his #3 pick, Nigeria, must win.

RESULTS: Achiyama pick wins. Furanohana ® pick wins, continues: Achiyama 0 - 1 Furanohana. (Day 5)

NGR........Federal Republic of Nigeria...5...日本......................................JPN

Day 3: I'm sure everyone on the forum was cheering for JPN....not just Furanohana.

Day 5: The first draw -- and both players have NGR in their line-ups! It's time to check Jejima's charts to figure out broken chains.

RESULTS: Achiyama pick draws. Furanohana pick loses, chain broken: Achiyama 0 - 1 Furanohana. GAME OVER. (Day 5)

RUS...............Российская Федерация...6...© République du Cameroun...................CMR

Day 2: CMR is the 2nd loss for Furanohana, but both losses are in the bottom half of his line-up, so not worried.

MEX...........Estados Unidos Mexicanos...7...República del Ecuador......................ECU

Day 2: Win #2 for Achiyama, but may not make a difference this low in his line-up.

Day 4: ECU loses for Furanohana, which causes Achiyama to pour a Mexican craft -- Calavera Mexican Imperial Stout -- in celebration of the first head-to-head win.

ECU..............República del Ecuador...8...República Portuguesa.......................POR

Day 4: Achiyama is not concerned with this ECU loss.

Day 5: Furanohana was wise to put POR low on his line-up.

KOR............................대한민국...9...República de Costa Rica....................CRC

Day 3: CRC gives Furanohana a glorious, yet unexpected win -- will this #9 pick make a difference?

HON...........República de Honduras ®...10...Republika Hrvatska.........................CRO

Day 1: Furanohana is happy with the CRO loss as BRA was #1 in his line-up.

Day 4: Achiyama is not concerned with this HON loss.

Furanohana has no winning picks today, but wins the match on Nigeria's draw -- which also broke his chain. He scores his only point after Achiyama's chain is broken thanks to his ® pick. In defeat, Achiyama starts chugging Chabonowaka's leftover cheap Uruguayan mate and Ecuadoran aguardiente, then adds some Honduran horchata to forget. Furanohana enjoys the national crafts from the earlier days and starts ordering food (feijoada, pastel de choclo, crêpes, gallo pinto) and dancers (Samba, Cueca, Bourrée, Merengue) from his winning squads to start the celebration.

NOTE TO GROUP E: I've only received ONE line up for round 2. Send them to me via the forum or my e-mail. Thanks and good luck.

Round 2 Lineups - Group H

shumitto : 1. Netherlands , 2. Brazil , 3. England , 4. Belgium ® , 5. Nigeria , 6. Switzerland , 7. Bosnia , 8. Iran, 9. Mexico , 10. Australia ©

Comment: Only now have I realized I've picked three teams from the same group. And the three weakest by the way. It was difficult to pick number #1 this time. The Dutch rolled over Spain in round one, but Brazilian fields a more solid formation (one referee in the middle with linesmen coming down the flanks) and there is no easy solution for that. Belgium was only number #4 this time but I really hope they score 10 or more goals in the group stage alone and maybe win the whole thing... :)

vs.

Nekonishiki : 1. Netherlands , 2. Portugal , 3. Italy , 4. Nigeria , 5. Spain , 6. Russia ® , 7. Ghana , 8. Mexico © , 9. Iran , 10. Australia

Comment: It was a short round for me. :(

Hopefully the next one will go better.

Rubensan : 1. Netherlands , 2. Italy © , 3. Portugal , 4. Brazil , 5. South Korea ® , 6. Nigeria , 7. Ivory Coast , 8. Honduras , 9. Bosnia , 10. Switzerland

Comment: Good start. For this match I'm putting relying on the favourites, even though Portugal started badly

vs.

Doitsuyama : 1. Italy , 2. Portugal , 3. Spain © , 4. Bosnia , 5. Japan , 6. South Korea , 7. Algeria ®, 8. Greece , 9. Chile , 10. Mexico

Comment: Two intra-squad matchups with Japan-Greece and South Korea-Algeria. What's worse I can't get a read on the latter two as the first game is after the deadline for round 2. Well, I can't say I didn't know all of this when picking my squad so it's really all my own fault. Go, Portugal, Spain, Bosnia and Japan, you all have to rebound from round 1 losses.

Achiyama: I notice that in Chocshoporyu's table, you have Ivory Coast down as a loss. I haven't checked to see if it makes a difference to the score, though. Also, I have told Gary and Mark to send their picks to you...they should arrive soon.

As for my game, it all went down the toilet as USA won and a very poor Nigeria couldn't beat a very poor Iran! Well done to my opponent, though...he got a GBL so I don't think I could have won even with a GBL of my own, unless somehow both South Korea and Algeria win...not that I'd have put them high anyway. Impossible to win this match, basically. Hope I get a bit more luck against Shimoda!

For Group G I am awaiting second-round picks from Kamogawa.

EDIT: I have emailed Kamogawa but still no reply with only 80 minutes to the deadline. Pitinosato may well be facing a drone.

Kaiomitsuki and Leonishiki are still waiting on the results of the Nigeria match. A win there can potentially net Leonishiki a lot of points on the match considering how many winners follow that. A draw or loss will break his chain on the first spot, and net Kaiomitsuki a single goal and a win.

Kaiomitsuki vs Leonishiki

shimodahito: My lower M pick Costa Rica roster plays league in Spain, USA, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, Russia. This round faith pick: Switzerland. This round no faith pick: Croatia. With Jejima's Hong Kong time zone, I hope to catch him sleeping.
Jejima: I don't seem to have much faith in either of my special teams..... Hopefully that will change for round 2!
Refioji Pregame: Jejima's squad may strike first as it sees a lot of action on the weekend while shimodahito has quite a few teams playing next week (somewhat contradicting his comment ;-) )
Refioji MbM:

Thu: Croatia lost but shimodahito cleverly put them near the end, so there isn't much to see.

Fri: No action, this game is slow in the build up

Sat: Finally we are seeing shots here and there with shimodahito's Colombia ® coming through, but placed even better by Jejima. The loss of Jejima's Greece ® isn't hurting much as he put them at the end, but his England © also lost making his shot from Ivory Cost potentially meaningless. Finally, Costa Rica is featured in the comment section but still placed last by shimodahito which seems like such a waste now.

Sun: France is coming through for Jejima, while Switzerland is successfully attacking the third slot from the other side making a win likely for shimodahito if heavily favored Belgium wins.

Mon: The Group G results made the match go downhill for shimodahito as both his teams lost in crucial slots. Especially Portugal's loss to the German juggernauts gives Jejima new hope he managed to break the aite's chain with England © despite the loss. Ghana's loss then guarantuees a goal for Jejima.

COMMENTS
Pandaazuma: Hmmm...my opponent has a slight advantage here in that his komusubi (Chile) has a freebie while mine (Netherlands) will struggle against Spain so I need Nigeria to win or draw, most likely. Also weird that my opponents R and C picks are the exact opposites of mine (in the very first game), and that they're likely to be around the 4 and 5 spots...so I'm gambling on a draw or win for Japan and my opponent having IC at 4 so I can break his chain. Now watch me get this spectacularly wrong! Good luck, Maguroyama!
Maguroyama: No comment.
Refioji Pregame: Maguroyama and Pandaazuma have identical teams in the first two positions, so Chile's placment on third might indeed become a winner.
Refioji MbM:

Thu: Has the game even started yet?

Fri: Maguroyama produced a fine shot with Chile while Pandaazuma likely misses a stunning shot from Netherlands.

Sat: We watch Pandaazuma getting his special teams spectacularly wrong. :-) Maguroyama cleverly placed his Japan ® low while producing a good shot with Ivory Coast while Pandaazuma might break his chain with Japan.

Sun: The second half starts slow with Pandaazuma trying to recover from the shock at the close of the first half, and he squanders a potential scoring opportunity with the Ecuador loss.

Mon: Pandaazuma shows shoddy defending finally allowing a score with Chile in slot 3 as Nigeria only draws. What's worse, his chains breaks at slot 4 as USA comes through with a late goal from German (even from my hometown Berlin) Brooks, and Maguroyama scores another goal. His Japan ® loss ends the game already with the final score of 2-0 for Maguroyama.

shimodahito: My mid M pick South Korea roster plays league in Japan, England, Saudi Arabia, China, Germany, Wales. This round faith pick: Croatia. This round no-faith pick Belgium & Ghana. This line-up is sent without knowing the result of my round with Jejima! Pandaazuma, with the cigarette-smoking panda avatar, will be an honorable opponent this round. We have three common teams (ARG-BEL-KOR) that will add to the strategy.
Pandaazuma: While my team has the advantage of more likely winners, especially the Netherlands freebie that Shimodahito doesn't have, my opponent has a likely win with his ® team against my ® team...so I'm putting Ivory Coast well out of the way at 10 and just hoping my top order does its job. Good luck Shimodahito!
Refioji Pregame: As Pandaazuma recognizes he may have the disadvantage in the ® matchup, and in case of the expected result must hope for a stumble of shimodahito's top dogs

COMMENTS
Maguroyama: Too bad for Japan in match 1, but I have confidence in my team in round 2. It will be a victory. Forza Nippon! If Argentina don't beat Iran, it will be messy for me…
Jejima: Three intra-squad match-ups! (Follow team orders). I have promoted England higher up in my line-up than they deserve for the following five reasons....

1.) Even a draw would help me out here, as they are my © team. 2.) I'm an England fan. If England loses they are probably (not definitely, if Italy wins all of its matches) out of the World Cup, which would make me very sad. So, I hope they will do their best. 3.) Suarez is not fit, and might not be starting....., 4.) Wayne Rooney has never scored at the World Cup in 9 games.... Surely 10th time lucky?! (He's not that bad....), 5.)

Refioji Pregame: Jejima really needs England to survive against Uruguay for multiple reasons. I still like Maguroyama'a lineup more for this round as the Bosnia placement is evidence for more favoured teams in his squad.

Comment: No comments from the busy Kamogawa.

Refioji Comments: Kamogawa has a nice three points out of three already but Pitinosato is now desperate to get points on the board. This looks like quite a close one and the Colombia-Ivory Coast match could be vital. Kamogawa will be hoping for no slip-ups tonight from the hosts to get off to a good start.

And to our second match:

Domichi:

1. South Korea
2. Brazil
3. Bosnia
4. Colombia
5. Belgium
6. Uruguay ©
7. USA ®
8. Iran
9. Russia
10. Mexico

Comments:

Last Round:

I would have done really well if not for the Costa Rica upset, my picks were generally on point and I'm pretty proud about it. It was a great showing from Costa Rica and it is always good to see a CONCACAF team pull off an upset. Unfortunately for me I did not see it coming and it ruined my chances in the first round. I'm glad that the USMNT managed the win against Ghana, and with Portugal not at 100% for our next game my hopes are high for the USA advancing. Hopefully Jozy will be okay to play by the time we face Germany.

Current Round:

Hoping that Algeria is the weak team that I remember it as from previous world cups. I would have normally put Brazil in the first slot but they looked pretty lackluster against Croatia. Bosnia is a good team and should handily defeat Nigeria despite losing their first round match. Belgium and Russia is a bit of a toss up but I'm siding with Belgium this round. I'm not very confident in my picks as compared to last round. Hopefully everything plays out in my favor, especially after how my first round went.

Kuroimori:

1. Italy
2. Brazil
3. Portugal ®
4. Ecuador
5. Colombia
6. Russia
7. Nigeria ©
8. Mexico

9. Cameroon
10. Costa Rica

Comment: Tricky one here, Domichi really needs a win and must be really motivated to get it. Sharing 4 teams on our lineups makes it even trickier. I hope that Italy, Brazil build on their first win and Portugal and Ecuador to regroup and grasp their chances of reaching the elimination phase. I am bit worried that Domichi will have more winners, so I might need some luck in terms of the order. Colombia and Russia might be decisive. Good luck for Round 2 everyone!

Refioji Comments: Domichi has really gone for it here with South Korea in the top slot. If that pays off he'll be very relieved. There are plenty of potential banana skins in Kuroimori's picks as well...will underachievers Portugal screw it up again against the organized USA, or indeed will the mediocre Italy side have the same trouble Uruguay had with Costa Rica? Could be very interesting.

Good luck to all the players!

2. Bosnia vs Nigeria
1. Brazil vs Mexico
If my 4 first picks are all right (if Portugal doesn´t win they are out and I don´t see a loss for France),
I guess I´ll be winning1-0 (with Bosnia, Belgium and Greece wins*) and then:
1-1 if Ecuador draw or lose again;
2-1 if Ecuador draw but with another shot with South Korea;
3-0 if Ecuador wins.
* if any of this teams fails, my chances of victory grow immensely.
So, in this moment I am quite hopeful of getting another win...

2. Colombia
3. Italy
4. Bosnia
