Kisenosato is injured.

Brain damage?

No, it's his ankle. You're thinking of Konishiki.

No, you seem to confuse Kise with Giku, who actually IS injured, Kise just performs AS IF he is injured.

Reality is hard to take some times...

No. His ankle really is injured. There was much talk about it in the press before the basho.

It's just that most of the gaijin on this forum hate Kisenosato with an irrational passion. Maybe they dislike Japanese people.

well, in case there really would be some "press chatter" it should simply serve as a cheap excuse in case he bloops again, (a wise move of preparation...)

because if he would have had his nerves under control and not handing our gifts to maegashira regulars with three losses on Nakabi already,

this so-called "press talk" you draw out of the hat like a white rabbit NOW would simpy be non-existent.

The one thing Kise doesn't seem to get is that he has to earn the promotion, the press or media or kyokai can't arrange it for him.

I think a Japaneses Yokozuna would be great for all aspects of Sumo, it has been a while now, but I am just frustrated and dissapointed that he doesn't focus on his major target hard enough.

I would be frustrated to the extent you are if my favourite rikishi would be as shaky as Kise, carelessly neglecting his potential.

Maybe it would be healthier to start supporting Endo instead?

You know for a fact that Kisenosato is not injured beacuse...

I watched NHK for the last few days-surprisingly, they have been mentioning injuries a lot-used to be a no-no back in the day. Except Kisenosato of course. Not a word about injury, but heaps of words including "mental weakness", "unprepared", "insecure" "used Subaru" and their synonyms. It's a jinx-every rikishi my best sumo friend really likes never makes it to Yokozuna. Always almost, but no.."Remember the Alamost!!" as my American friends used to say..

Kisenosato is not injured. The press did not speak about it before the basho, I read the press daily. I challenge you to show me one article that said Kisenosato has an injured ankle. Maybe an injured uncle. Cut the crap, triplemasu.

I mean it in a good way, of course..

I'll respond when my wife gets home from work. She's the one that told me.

I can't read kanji.

You can read about that in English in post #46 and #56 in the Yokozuna/Ozeki preperandum - Hatsu 2014 topic.

Nice catch, it's true that there was a hint of a problem in both those posts. The ankle was specifically mentioned in post #56 though it was being brushed off as nothing serious.

Does Kisenosato seem to be favouring that leg now? Does anyone think a sore ankle has contributed to his 3 early losses?

Beacuse it isn't mentioned anywhere. All rikishi are injured to an extent, as you well know. Only a serious injury releases you from your obligations in this sport. If every report about every injury made that rikishi lose all the time Kyokutenhou will be winning the yusho. Kisenosato does not have a visible serious injury. If he indeed has a serious injury, I'll eat my cat.

Yes, that was on the 6th, I remember because I translated it . He went on to train normally and had a strong session against Hakuhou a day later. Every single basho we get reports of everyone injured to this and that extent. The red flag that went up and I mentioned was that he sucked at soken in December. He wasn't injured then. Or maybe he was. Compare that to Harumafuji, who reports said was "slightly injured" and took no part in the session.

Summary-Kisenosato may be injured. We know the drill. Injuries are never admitted. If he is injured, he should not have entered. you enter-you are evaluated for your abilities. 5-3 without facing the top guns is not very good.

I translated that and it means nothing. He entered. You write as if you know nothing about sumo and injuries. As for your assumption that I like to eat pussy, that is very personal and inappropriate.

And true..

Kisenosato's ankle IS injured but he's too much of a bad-ass to whine about it like others do.

What do the three who beat Kise in the first eight days have in common?

Injured knees. Toyonoshima - taped knee, Aoiyama - knee brace, Tochiozan - taped knee/shin/ankle

They need those things.

Some people need a security blanket.

And now for something completely different:

Oosunaarashi is on a nice run right now, making short work of short breathed Masunoyama.

Oosunaarashi got inside Masunoyama's thrusting attack quickly, causing aite to slip, and then took control of the bout and pushed him down FTW.

How do you say 'big oil gusher' in Japanese? Daiuden?

Asahi Shimbun on Friday, Jan. 17 had an article on Kise with the headline:

心 が 負けた

( kokoro ga maketa)

which means:

"He (Kise) lost his heart"

Losing his heart would indeed be a major injury I guess....

Day 9 brought us :

- an isamiashi victory by new kid Yonamine over Azumanami in Jonokuchi

- he's now sole leader, as Jk1e Haruminato lost to Daishoki from Jonidan

- Fujiwara is another one at 5-0, while Sato clinches his KK after having started with a defeat

- also a KK for Sakae upon his arrival in Sandanme, while Horikiri & Kotodaigo stay unbeaten so far

- meanwhile Karatsuumi is dropping like a stone

- will Baraki go 0-7 in Makushita after that 7-0 last basho ?

- and a 0-5 for both Tochimaru & Irie is also quite unexpected, the latter even never performed worse than 3-4

- Komanokuni lately has been finding the way to go, so does Yamatofuji

- they share the lead with Higoarashi, who managed to surprise Amuru today !

- though the Ms fight of the day might have been Tosayutaka winning from Ishiura

- bad news for Takanoyama in Juryo, as he needs to win all remaining bouts for a KK

- Sadanoumi & Chiyomaru already have their KK, while Jokoryu dropped another one

- strong performances by Osunaarashi & Endo in Makuuchi, needing one more victory for KK

- while Kisenosato clearly must be injured indeed, as he would never lose that easily from Toyohibiki

- this was a funny position right after the bout (Wearing a paperbag...)

- and Kotooshu somehow manages to keep hope for double digits, though still 66% wins needed

and as for the kimarite talk :

- Tokitenku won by a very rare nimaigeri (last 6 by just 2 rikishi), in which he clearly excels : 14-0

- he won twice by nimaigeri against Hochiyama, Yoshiazuma & now also Shotenro

- Hochiyama even had another rikishi beating him twice using this technique

- Ikeru needs wins, so here's his 7th zubuneri, 1 more than Satonofuji

- now I would like to see another ipponzeoi by Ikeru as well

- not too uncommon, but Aoi managed the basho's first tsuridashi, which Baruto strongly favoured : 33-2 !

- and Kotomatsuo the first abisetaoshi in a while, which of course is something Orora favours

- no other clear master in that technique (Daijo, Azumasho & Kagamio 3-1 best I could find, Mankajo & Tosanoumi 3-2)

- though Oshio seems to be pretty vulnerable to it
