Benevolance 2,534 Posted March 9, 2014 My friends still wanted to have a sumo kick off party, so we ponied up for the one-day pass. The quality of the feed was noticeably better and less laggy for the top division fights, but the overall quality wasn't any better than the free stream was for the lower division fights before, making me think it might have more to do with server load than better equipment. As a one day lark once every two months it was alright. But not otherwise worth the price of admission.

kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 10, 2014 I used UBS yesterday and today since NHK didn't start its Sumo broadcast as usual at the start of Makuuchi / at around 4 p.m. JST while UBS was there just after 4 p.m. and when I had to leave for the office about half an hour ago, NHK (via NIJI) still showed some old guys in even older red armchairs... ;-)
kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 10, 2014 I just checked the NHK schedule and realized that they broadcasted on NHK BS1(101) today from 15:15 JST which can be accessed by jpPlayer. Tomorrow the extended Ozumo broadcast is shifted to BS 1 (102) which jpPlayer does not cover. If there only was a way to access NHK BS 1 subchannel 102 via streaming, a new dimension of Live Ozumo Action would open up...

Akinomaki 41,733 Posted March 27, 2014 If the 4:3 aspect ratio bothers you at Niji TV, you can watch the stream inside VLC and set the aspect ratio manually to 16:9. 1. Log into Niji and play one of the available channels. 2. Open VLC, go to Media -> Open Network Stream, and paste the following URL: http://127.0.0.1:8902/tv.mpeg. Click Play. Mute the sound in Niji media player. 3. Adjust the aspect ratio from the 'Video' menu. Barring video jitters, you'll get a picture-perfect feed. Where did you get the port number and file name from, the ':8902/tv.mpeg' bit? Would like to understand where this magic comes from... Would be proud to say that I elaborated it, but the fact is that all my brightness comes from the net, mainly from this forum: http://yuzuruhanyu.forumatic.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=267 Niji had an update (to the worse) and for me the ':8902/tv.mpeg' doesn't work anymore. Asashosakari 20,222 Posted March 27, 2014 BTW, I think a filename isn't actually needed, just http://127.0.0.1:8190/ will work.

I have updated Niji to ver. 2.02 on my Win 7 laptop and on my Win 8.1 desktop. Works well on the laptop, but I get no video on the desktop. The login, schedule data and all else appear properly, but the video is zilch. I get an info line at the bottom talking about the channel, but no download info. I am too linguistically challenged to fully decipher the info line. The line: Edited March 27, 2014 by Asojima
Manekineko 200 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) From what I can read - temporary problems with connecting to the channel. Disclaimer: not really good with Japanese. Edited March 28, 2014 by Manekineko
Asojima 2,874 Posted March 30, 2014 Sounds about right. Roughly: Cannot connect to the channel at the moment. The channel could not be added. I normally only use the laptop to view Niji, so it is not a major problem for me. I am curious whether other Win 8.1 users out there are having the same problem. I have been having several streaming glitches under Win 8.1. Is it my system config or is it a Windows problem?
Asashosakari 20,222 Posted March 30, 2014 I think it's a Niji problem. I've had the same issues with getting connected to the TV streams, and I'm on Win7. Just keep trying to connect and it'll work eventually.
Torabayama 51 Posted March 31, 2014 Is it still the case that this other streaming option doesn't work on Mac other than through something like VMWare, or is it possible to stream Niji on a Mac through VLC?

Kintamayama 47,175 Posted April 2, 2014 Niji is my lifeline at the moment. I'm still using XP. I always have to fire up Niji twice to get it going normally-the first time is always jittery, second time usually perfect. Sometimes 3 or 4 times till I get it right. It usually stays right till the end.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) 189 on one particular Facebook group. Not counting those wanting to advertise sunglasses and designer handbags. With any luck NIji and jpPlayer are picking up the slack along with UBS.jpPlayer also saves me from purchasing the NBA League Pass. Watching right now on NHK BS1: Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks (Replay of last night's game, which was a painful OT home loss for Dirk and his Digglers. I have the feeling that this might have cost the playoffs for the Mavs.) Edited April 2, 2014 by kuroimori

Akinomaki 41,733 Posted April 8, 2014 For me Niji after the update only works 1 time in 10. Usually when opening a channel the message "0.00% download 0kb/s" stays for 10 min. and then it mostly goes to "teishi" (stop).Trying again and again - and if it works it's shaky and stops ("teishi" again) often. It's useless for me now.

Lately, I have been getting major load delays on Ustream, Niji and other streaming applications. The problem may not be entirely Niji's. I am beginning to suspect Adobe's Flash Player as the culprit. Asojima 2,874 Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) The Mongolian UBS TV channel that provides live makuuchi coverage has become a live, free Ustream service. It is still available via the old URL, but there are now some new Ustream direct links available .Old UBS base link: http://www.ubs.mn/ubslive1.phpNew Ustream site: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ubsstreamUstream pop out: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ubsstream/pop-outEmbedded Ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/embed/17806725The Ustream base site has social stream chat service available via at least Ustream, Twitter and Facebook login. VLC and other player access methods should be identical to those used when the NSK stream was a free Ustream service. Note: UBS shuts down from about 1AM until mid morning. kuroimori 1,634 Posted April 29, 2014 UStream... for some reasons I have a funny feeling that something might happen to the free broadcast. Let's hope the guys at UBS don't follow the same path as the greedy old farts at the NSK. Lucky to have alternatives such as Niji & jpPlayer.
Asojima 2,874 Posted May 9, 2014 Niji released an update on or about May 8. With it, I am now getting usable coverage on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. On startup, you will be given the option to download and install the new update. Some of the channels are still slow on the startup, but once they are active, the image quality is pretty good. Kintamayama 47,175 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Update not good for me-can't record anything decent and no audio on the recorder side. Still time to plan.. Edit: Scratch that- a restart and a bit of cursing, cajoling and threatening and we're good to go.. Edited May 9, 2014 by Kintamayama
