Mark.Buckton 68 Posted March 31, 2013 Fans of sumo in the Tokyo area might want to keep an eye out for a new magazine - M2 - first issue out on Friday the 29th and carrying a 3-pager of pics and text on the upcoming annual Yasukuni sumo gig next Friday, April 5th. (definitely available in the FCCJ) The magazine has no significant online presence yet so hard copies are the only option at the moment although there will be a photo of the article appearing on my FB page in the next couple of hours. Torabayama 51 Posted April 2, 2013 M2 posted a PDF link to their first issue on their Facebook page today. You can find Mark's article there.

Asashosakari 20,193 Posted April 3, 2013 Kise stands for "Kitanoumi Sehei".
Orion 431 Posted April 4, 2013 Kimura Sehei, last time I looked. Or did I miss something? After two or three days of torrential rain we had bright sunshine today in Tokyo, so the Yasukuni ground may have dried out by tomorrow. But the pink scum covering the little river below my window yesterday proved, on closer inspection, to be the last of the cherry blossoms floating out to sea -- so let's hope Yasukuni has a few trees of a late-flowering variety to provide the promised background. Good luck to the new mag -- I used to like Metropolis a lot, though it's true I haven't bothered to get a copy for some time. Orion Kise stands for "Kitanoumi Sehei". ryafuji 824 Posted April 4, 2013 Kise stands for "Kitanoumi Sehei". Kimura Sehei, last time I looked. Or did I miss something? Yes - Asashosakari was alluding to the fact that Mark mistakenly said Jokoryu belongs to Kitanoumi beya rather than Kise.
Kintamayama 47,078 Posted April 4, 2013 Kise stands for "Kitanoumi Sehei". I meant typo, not factual mistakes. The kind the "edirot" should have spotted..

Well, you used the singular, so between the four typos and one factual error I saw, I thought you were referring to the latter.

Asashosakari 20,193 Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) Ooooh, I found only one.. I guess I know which one you indetified. Wold the Harumafufi find the others? Maybe with more than a moments notice. (That's five actually, though one not in the "typo" realm.) I hasten to add that it's a very well-written summary of the basho, and it's a bit of a shame that the typos detract from it. Orion 431 Posted April 5, 2013 I infer that the new mag, Son of Metropolis, has a subeditor, unlike the Japan Times online. Incidentally I was at a lunch place today that provided two magazines to customers at the door: a thin Metropolis plus a rather fatter M2, side by side. Unfortunately I forgot to pick up copies as I left. Orion Ooooh, I found only one.. I guess I know which one you indetified. Wold the Harumafufi find the others? Orions Mark wasn't talking about regular bouts. He was talking about the number of yusho won by Chiyonofuji and that he never had to face Hokutoumi whilst winning them. As I said, I was nitpicking. Kintamayama 47,078 Posted June 1, 2013 Interesting article on hazing in sports in Japan Here is part two-most of it is off topic, but it is a very, very interesting insight into hazing as a "common" way of educating athletes in Japan, covering all sports.
